Common sense & good pointers
The book has three main sections: definition of focus (concentrated attention), controlling your environment for improved focus, and specific "tactics" to apply in improving focus. The first part defines focus, provides reasons why it is lost, lists and briefly explains obstacles to achieving it and summarizes the benefits of achieving it. The second part provides 10 (11?) suggestions for improving your environment, from lighting to clutter, with the purpose of improving your ability to concentrate and focus. The third part provides 20+ specific suggestions which you can adopt to improve focus. Each suggestion has a 2-3 page explanation. Overall, the book is OK. It contains a lot of common sense material that can help you achieve improved attention and concentration. I summarized the book in 3 pages for quick reference. One is a mind map of the components of the focus definition, obstacles, etc., in part one. Page two is a chart of the suggested environmental improvements. Page three is a list of the "tactics" with brief descriptions. The book also includes some references I didn't look into... presumably for further reading. It's a good begginner's introduction to the topic. It's a quick read, even if you are summarizing it. And it provides some common sense advice. I think it's a good "bang for the buck", even if it's not Pulitzer Prize material. I would recommend it to a friend who needed a quick introduction or refresher on focus.

Actionable tips, straight to the point
People who say that this book is a waste of time and the tips in here are beyond the obvious are the same ones searching endlessly for a magical self help book that will give them focus without doing anything to obtain it. You need to work for it instead of mindlessly consuming information on self improvement! Of course this book will have things you may have already known but the only thing that is stopping you is YOU and lack of execution. Are you doing the work though? It's never the book itself unless, in the rare occasion, a book is title "Be more productive with these tips" and the pages are filled with how to cook the best pasta. You have to take action and this books is short, simple, and sweet with tips and research that backs up why X tip is proven to be helpful. What more can you ask for honestly.

Good for a list
Great book for what it was meant to inspire. It is simple and to the point. Great if you want a list of ideas to help you stay focused but not much deeper than that.

Everyone Should Read This!
"Fast Focus" is full of great reminders. If you're old like me, there's nothing actually new here, but having all of these neat tricks in one book is great. It allowed me to identify the focus blocks I've had lately. And, thankfully, this book is well-written with a minimum of typos. The author can actually write -- amazing in a Kindle World where every hack seems to think he/she has a decent book inside. I found my focus blocks were unusual and hope by writing this I might help somebody else. For instance, I write using an old-fashioned dictaphone. Yes, really. It's what I used at my first job(s), and it's comfortable and familiar. And I use pen and paper for my to do lists. Again, it's what I've always done. Lately I've forced myself to use Evernote and some of the other new programs and they just didn't "fit." Also, although I've tried for thirty years to work to baroque music, it just peels the enamel off of my teeth. Then I discovered the Game Show Network on TV and as long as I keep it running, on low, in the background, I feel like I'm back where I used to be when I did some of my most successful work -- people chattering, laughing, etc. Also, I used to believe in multitasking, but as the author says, it just doesn't work. Now I devote my time to one thing at a time, although I do often cheat and eat while catching a weather report or I file my nails while listening to my sister drone on over the phone. And time chunking is a given -- it works beautifully. And my cell phone stays zippered in my purse during the day. Always. People who honestly may need to reach me have my land line, and they're the only ones who have that number. I have never (and will never) allow a cell phone to become the huge annoyance I understand it is for too many people. I could just as easily live without one. Yes, this is coming from an old broad, but I've had some terrific successes during my working years, so use what works for you. So read this book, and understand that the idea is to experiment in order to discover what works for you. I appreciate that the author laid things out in a One-Size-Doesn't-Fit-All way, allowing for personalization. "Fast Focus" is a great little book, written in a friendly tone and full of terrific ideas and information.

Very Helpful!
I have a real problem with focus, I can be doing one thing and then jump to something else. I really believe that it is hindering my ability to focus in life and so I decided to do something about it. I came across this book and I have read it from cover to cover, I have yet to implement any of the principles, so I am not sure whether they work or not. However, what I can say is that the author has gone to great lengths to explain some really good techniques that will help you to focus. The book is well written and easy to understand. The writer backs up a lot of what he is saying with evidence which makes his writing even more believable. The good news is that I was able to focus on the book until I got to the end, so hopefully I will be able to improve my concentration skills! This is a great read, highly recommended!
