OTC 3415 CAN Test Box - Use to Diagnose Electrical Faults and CAN Bus Line Activity, Check Power/Ground Circuits and Active Protocol Lines, and More

As part of my job - I need to access the CAN signals from the OBDII connector. I have lots of specific cables from various vendors blah blah blah. Nuff said. For this custom application - I needed complete access to every signal on this test vehicle's OBDII connector - and this brilliant box - provided such. Flashing LED lights on the activity pins. I am in love with this box - since it saved my... This is absolute genius. And happy to discover it is from a company founded in my state - Minnesota - who knew? I ordered the box on Friday. Paid $9 bucks for Saturday delivery. Excellent testing today Sunday. Now off to Detroit area Monday for my meetings with customers. BTW - The box accepts industry standard "banana plug" leads. I bought off-the-shelf leads at my local RS electronic supplier to fabricate some custom cables to my "black box" - and they fit the breakout box as expected.

The only feature this is missing is the ability to isolate pin 16 from the vehicle in case you need to pipe 12v in by yourself. Aside from that, it's a great breakout box. Connections are nice and snug and the pass through ability for your VCI is excellent. If you call yourself a diagnostic guy, you better have one of these.

OTC has always made a decent tool, and this Break Out Box is no exception. Lets you know at a glance the system voltage and all working CAN lines. Using this with an oscilloscope enables you to diagnose any voltage or ground issues and if the CAN lines are working properly. A must have tool.

Excellent device for troubleshooing 0b2 systems.Easy to use with good instructions i would recommend this brand of Brakeout Box to any tech or mechanic.

Works as it should. Only dislike is the one I received connects too loosely on the DLC, doesn't take much for it to fall off. I use a DLC extension cable to give me more length and this setup eliminates that problem.

This works awesome for monitoring can lines when looking for problems on the bus lines.

Breakout box showed up earlier than expected and works great

Very well made. Very useful to see activity on other OBD lines that was not expected. Also included in the package are two short banana cables, one with a switch, that can be used to interconnect lines for special testing. I agree with earlier reviews: low voltage beeper is annoying and cannot be turned off; second CAN lines should also be color-coded. I dropped a star because this unit seems designed for the right-hand drive market where its shortish 28-inch cable does not matter, as its face labelling is right-side up on the way to a laptop on the passenger seat to the left. However, when it is used in a North American vehicle, the labelling is upside-down when you are connecting to a laptop to the right of you. Slightly annoying. For the NA market, the cable needs to be 2 or 3 feet longer so that there is room to turn the unit right-side up. The orange numbers that label the OBD lines are not very visible in poor lighting - an LED behind each number would be helpful.
