Veterinary Formula De-Skunk Odor Destroying Shampoo for Dogs, 32oz

I purchased this product the day after I saw a skunk in my yard because I knew exactly what was going to happen! I am so thankful I did because the exact scenario I imagined happened! Within two weeks after it arrived, my 110 pound AmericanBulldo/chocolate lab mix, couch potato, dog, who has never slept outside since he has been with us, was sprayed right in the face by our adorable yard skunk! He turned and the spray went down his side. Unfortunately, my husband did not realize he had been sprayed and let him in the house! He caught him quickly, and thankfully, before he made it to the couch! We immediately took our chunky boy outside and bathed him! I used1/4 cup of blue dawn dish detergent mixed with 15 drops of Youngliving Purification essential oil. (See comparable charts on Google for other name brads equal to Purification) We applied this mixture before wetting the dog. This is important! I did not rub it into his skin because I am not sure how it would affect him. It was just to get the initial skunk oil off his fur. I also did not put this near his eyes for the same reason. Remember that the skunk sprayed his face though! Once the oil mixture was rinsed off, we used the De-skunk shampoo. It worked perfectly! I rubbed it down to his skin and around his face. I was careful not to get it in his eyes. I did rinse his eyes with a lot of water because he had skunk spray in his eyes as well! It was so horrible! I was gagging because the smell was so strong! Because my husband was the one who caught him and saved our furniture, his hands were all skunky too! After washing my poor chubby boy, my husband’s hands did not stink and the dog was clean, and although not 100 percent skunk free, there was just a light scent left on him. Mostly right between his eyes where I was afraid to use too much shampoo for fear of it getting in his eye and burning them worse. He slept on the couch the rest of the day without stinking up the furniture! About a week after the first spray, he met the skunk again! This time it was between the cars! My car was skunked as was the dog! We washed him in the house this time because it was about 11:00 at night. Y’all, just don’t! It was so bad! And I wasn’t able to get him washed very well. It was not worth what I had to do the next day! I had to call in to work the next day to try to make it all better. I took him back outside and washed him the same way again. This time it got him in the face and down under his chest. I missed some spots the night before and he still slept on the couch that night. Because my nose was so ruined from the initial smell of him being sprayed, I could not tell how bad he and my house smelled until I woke up the next morning and opened my bedroom door! Luckily, I had covered everything with towels and throws. I have washed those towels so many times and they still smell like skunk! I may try to wash them in the tub with the shampoo next time. I am sure there will be a next time! I have washed him with this shampoo twice, and we used a lot, but I’m pretty sure I can get another wash or two out of the bottle. Does this shampoo work? YES! Is it worth the money? YES! Will I purchase this product again? YES! Although I did use other products with the shampoo, I could really tell the difference once I used the shampoo. We did not wear gloves. Our hands smelled like skunk until we used the shampoo to wash the dog. It cleaned the remaining skunk spray from the dog AND off us, without skin irritation. I think the key to de-skunking is to wash immediately, preferably outside no mater the time of night. Even the next morning, about 7 hours after he was sprayed the second time, and after an initial wash with missed spots, the shampoo worked, just not as well once the skunk oil set for a bit. Even though the second blast lingered a little longer due to our delay in getting him correctly bathed (not due to lack of the shampoo working) the smell was tolerable and he was able to stay in the house and sleep with us without our family smelling like skunk. This stuff is amazing! It does work! You just have to act fast because skunk spray is an oil and the longer it sits, the harder it is to remove! We did not and will not kill the skunk. We have stopped dumping scraps over the fence. It seems to have worked. I have smelled the little cutie, but I am haven’t seen it in the yard again. We do beat on the door and clap our hands before letting the dog out now! I love the wildlife around us and refuse to kill them because of something I caused. If you have skunks, you need to keep this shampoo in your house!!!!

Do you see these pictures? That is the face of someone who regrets their life decisions. It's 5 am and my dog is pacing the floors. Thinking he needs to go potty, I let him out. He doesnt need to potty, he is after a critter and before I even realize what's happening he's knocking me down to get back in the house. He's been hit right in the face. I fought him tooth and nail, trying to get him back out the door before he slung skunk booty juice all over my house. I was tempted to just leave him outside and go back to bed, but since this is the 4th time he's been sprayed, and i love him, I knew better lol. I wasted no time getting the deskunk out and lathering his face up. I bathed him for close to 45 minutes. He was a VERY unhappy camper. His eyes were watering and so was his nose. He always seems to take the spray right to the eyes... every... single... time. You would think he would learn his lesson, but his hunting dog genetics seem to overpower his common sense every time. Watching the sunrise while I hose skunk spray off of my dog is not what I had in mind today. 10/10 do not recommend. But if you're gonna do it, at least have deskunk! After he got sprayed the 1st time last year, I ordered multiple deskunk shampoos and this one has worked the best out of them all. The key is this has to be the FIRST thing you wash them with IMMEDIATELY after they get sprayed. If you wait, it will not be near as effective. If you wash with other shampoos first it won't be as effective. You have to use this first and as soon as feasibly possible after a spraying event for best results. Trust me, I unfortunately know from experience lol. I'm not going to say that it will remove 100% of the smell, but it's the closest I've come to getting totally rid of skunk spray smell on my dog out of the numerous deskunk shampoos I've tried. It most certainly gets rid of the vast majority of the smell. My only complaint is that the lather isn't that great, but it does work. If the lather was thicker it would be a lot easier to tell where it has been applied and if it was applied well, but the purpose of this shampoo is not to create a luxurious lather, so for what it's made to do, it does it well. It sure is a big bottle, which is nice, because I have used it 4 times now and I also just put some in the washer and have his bedding soaking in it because he ran straight to his bed and started rubbing his face on his bed. Since I'm sure that this won't be the last time he's sprayed (4 times in the last year) I'm about to order another bottle. You can never be too prepared.

Smells very very medicinal and stinky, but better than skunk oil. I found this helped with the smell for like a day and then it would just return. I think this is made to use as the first wash after getting sprayed rather than the daily baths after. Even though it didn't work for my dogs I used it as a presoak for all the fabrics in my house that picked up the scent. I would buy it just for this purpose.

Well, my genius dog decided to tangle with a skunk early this spring, and got sprayed directly in the FACE! The worst part is, it didn't faze her whatsoever, so I can only assume we'll be in for another treat the next time another skunk comes along. This stuff is thin and runny - a bit like vegetable oil in thickness. It has a smell that's hard to place. Not bad or overly strong of a scent, just strange. It doesn't really lather like shampoo, it just kind of smears on and rinses off. Well, it kind of works - it took my dog from unbearable to be around to tolerable. It almost got the smell out of her body, but she wouldn't allow it on her face for very long without shaking off or licking it off (yum! skunk oil mixed with shampoo, sounds delicious!). We tried to get her face clean about a half dozen times before deciding it was "good enough". Nothing else we tried really worked at all. If your dog is less dumb than mine (this is likely), you might have even more success. The price of this stuff seems to swing wildly but by chance it was like three and a half bucks when I bought it, so after using it I decided to stock up and buy more. This would be because my idiot dog has likely not learned her lesson so I can only imagine we'll be going through this again sooner or later.

UPDATE: April2023 Here we go again!! Same dogs hit again, but not nearly as bad this time.Still ovgerwhelmmg sickening smell though. Got them in the shower and doused with this shampoo. Let it set for a few minutes.(Wasn't long because happened close to 10 pm and I was too tired to give them a proper bath.) AMAZZZINNNNNGGGG!!! Worked like a charm again. I was nuzzling both dogs' face as we prepared for them to get in bed with us. Odor pretty much eliminated and by morning they smelled great. TIP: Get the shampoo on them as quickly as possible to start neutralizing the odor. The quicker the better. ORIGINAL POST: Two dogs!! Two, at the same time were doused by a skunk. When I say the smell was overwhelming and sickening I am not exaggerating. I had been down this route before and dreaded the necessary bathing and lingering odor afterwards. But this time we had a new shampoo. Once on the Westie, I noticed the smell was subsiding, immediately. I was stunned!!!!! The fragrance was pleasant. I let it sit on him for a bit. I was just thrilled that the smell was cut enough to complete the task of bathing him, but from past experience I knew that the smell was likely to become more noticeable again after he was dried and I mentally prepared myself for the second bathing he would need in a day. Nope!!!!!!! After he was dry he smelled wonderful. His coat was soft and I think it brightened his white coat also. Incredible. I buried my face to nuzzle him and he smelled great! He smelled so good he was able to sleep in the bed with us the same night. I was amazed. I am impressed. This stuff is a miracle worker. No lie. No second bathing was necessary. By comparison, we bathed the second dog too, but ran out. He is a bigger dog, than the first, a Curly Coat Retriever. We used a different shampoo to finish the job. It also was intended for skunk odor. No where near the results of DESKUNK. When we finished with him, he didn’t smell as bad, but he still smelled.unpleasant. I came straight here to stock up on DESKUNK. Definitely a product that WORKS!!!!

This works! I had two dogs badly skunked last night about 11 PM. I could hardly bear to be near them. I instantly went on Amazon searching for a shampoo to be delivered today. One of them had a swollen eye as part of the issue. This shampoo did the trick. They both smell good, and the eye cleared up too. Yippee!

It goes without saying that I was eagerly anticipating the miracle transformation promised by the boldly advertised “De-Skunk Odor Destroying Shampoo for Dogs, 32 oz. – Formulated with Powerful De-Greasers, Skunk Odor Remover for Pets, Carpet, Furniture and More – Removes Skunk Smell Fast.” The label radiated confidence — neutralizes odor, restores freshness, saves your sanity. It did none of those things. Instead, it enhanced the situation. Not only is it nearly impossible to achieve a lather, but my pet no longer smells like a regular skunk—now she smells like a minty skunk. And the scent travels. It clings to fabric, lingers in the air, and has settled permanently into my home. My couch now smells like winter freshness gone horribly wrong, my clothes whisper eucalyptus regret, and the hallway carries a distinct “spa day in a swamp” note. In short, this shampoo did not remove the problem — it rebranded it. I will be returning this product just as soon as I decide whether or not to include the dog in the package. Purchased de-skunk oder destroyer back in Sept '25, anticipating a run in with my lab... Sure enough, mid Nov, was walking her (off leash) in an open field after dark. She disappeared from sight for a minute, then came back whining and rolling... A cloud of skunk oder accompanied. Brought her back to the house and got out my skunk kit, consisting of dawn, peroxide, baking soda and de-skunk. Caked on soap, baking soda and peroxide, then rinsed. Following up with de-skunk shampoo and let sit for ~10min, then rinsed. She got sprayed on the right side of her face.. I could tell exactly where it nailed her from the oily mess on her right leg, chest, and face. After her double bath, I could still catch a faint skunk oder right between her eyes and across her right eyebrow. Didn't want to get any harsh chemicals too close to her eyes, so will just have to live with a very fait skunk smell on her for awhile. Any place where I completely saturated her fur with the de-skunk shampoo, literally is with out oder. Good stuff in my book
