The overall quality of this made in the USA product is exceptional. The wood and metal stand is attractive. The bulb is easy to replace. There is a ring on the top that you can rotate to find the time in other parts of the world. The printing is very clear and easily seen when using a magnifying glass for the smaller countries. The light is excellent and the colors glow when in low ambient lighting. I plan to make a dark cover to prevent sunlight bleaching the colors when not in use. A really nice feature is the offer of a discounted globe replacement when there are major changes to the world. Loss of all Greenland ice, for example, perhaps? The mountains have a raised relief surface and the seas have color definition for depth and arrows indicating major current patterns. We are truly enjoying studying the relationships of the countries and land masses in greater detail. Even a more accurate projection of a flat map of the world really can't convey the world in the round the way this excellent product does. It is very educational..

This globe is fun, topographical when the light is off, and political when the light is on. These oceans are BLUE! With the light on during the evening the globe has a lovely glow. And the base is a nice dark wood. I should add that even when the globe is not illuminated you can see the countries' boundaries and names, etc. It's just that when the globe is illuminated, the coloring is political, no longer topographical.

My 9 year old loves the light up feature. I appreciate the topography and the political colors that show up when lit up. Shiny and beautiful. Perfect globe, especially for a youngster learning about the world. Very sturdy and beautiful. Good buy.

Very beautiful globe! My only complaint is that arrived with a scuff on the surface. The scuff was on the top of a mountain range. Not a big deal, but I expect a brand new item at this price to arrive without any damage.

For years my wife has wanted a globe. I saw this one and I saw that it light up! A quality globe with elevations and clear easy to read printing.

First the globe especially when lighted up looks amazing!! I collect globes and would highly recommend this one. Geography is a hobby of mine. Shows a lot of detail. Shows ocean currents and a lot more. I almost gave it four starts and the reason being...it did not work when I first plugged it in....I was ready to give it 1 star....but I read the instructions...took it apart as the instructions said...I saw a LED bulb and it was cross threaded for one...and two even when threaded perfect it didn't light up...so (with the cord unplugged) I pulled the positive and negative connectors ( one out more touching the side of the bulb....and the other up more touching the bottom of the bulb.....put the bulb back in and plugged it in! Success! And beautiful. Seems like they would do this or test at the factory but you can't seem to hardly buy anything perfect anymore. People need to be able to fix things themselves anyway. So I hope this helps someone else out. I was going to give it 4 stars...but then someone may pass on this great globe! This one is a keeper in my collection.

During my research for a new globe I discovered that the Chinese communist party recently mandated that Made In China maps and globes must include disputed markings favorable to China, such as a 'nine-dash' line in the South China Sea and modified political boundaries in Kashmir. (Do an Internet search for 'map war'.) This Made-in-the-USA product does not have such propaganda printed on its surface. The globe arrived nicely packed and in great condition, and lighted up as expected when plugged in. There are instructions in the box for opening the globe and repairing the light; fortunately I did not have to use them. The cord itself is about 3' long with a small high-quality switch box (and presumably the circuitry to convert 110V AC to the LED DC voltage) about 16" from the globe. The plug is 2-prong polarized. In a bright room it can be difficult to see the lighted effect, but in a darker setting it's quite spectacular to see the political boundaries jump out when the light is switched on. Replogle also includes a mail-in card offering 50% off on a new globe if/when political boundaries change in the future. I only have three complaints with the globe, and they're all minor: it would be nice if it had an Analemma, I wish the two halves fit together more precisely at the equator, and the terrain texturing for the Andes seems to be slightly off on the border between Chile and Argentina. However, those are all nitpicks. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase. There's about as much detail as you can cram on a 12" globe, the terrain texturing is fun, the ocean currents and directions are shown and the ocean terrain is shown (although the ocean terrain is not textured), and the lighted political boundaries are awesome. Very pleased with my purchase.

They show most of the pictures without the plug attached, which led me to think that the plug was detachable. I wanted something that I could have plugged in when I wanted the political map feature (which would be rarely ever) and then cordless majority of the time. Something that I could easily move from place to place (ie shelf to floor for kids to look at) without a cord attached all the time. The pictures are very misleading.

Great globe and love the way it shows the countries more clearly when illuminated.
