The Christopher Parkening Guitar Method - Volume 2 Book/Online Audio Paperback – April 1, 2009

When I was growing up my classical guitar teacher started me off with the Aaron Shearer's Classic Guitar Technique, however this is the book I wish I had been introduced to instead. The entire presentation, techniques and information are essential to the beginning, or even advanced, classical guitarist that needs a refresher course. I enjoyed Vol. 1 and dove right into Vol. 2.Parkening wastes no time in Vol. 2 as the book is intelligently divided into two parts: 1) Technique 2) Repertoire . You are playing meaningful and recognizable melodies right out of the gate and when you advance to the Repertoire section you begin building momentum. There is not a physical CD, but a link (Audio Access) to the MP3 downloads so you can play along. Parkening always includes an uplifting spiritual message and I personally like what he wrote about "Success vs. Excellence."

What I like in this manual is the fact that it really goes step by step which allow you to build a sound guitar technique. This allows you to learn the right moves for both left and right hand. There are a lot of this exercises. Maybe they look a little boring but believe me, they are essential for your progress.There are several pages about different guitar techniques like sound production, music history, composers for guitar, performance notes, advanced bar techniques, special effects, slur technique, performance anxiety (!), etc.. There are many black and white pictures illustrating the text.An audio CD is included in this special edition. You can consider this CD as your personal teacher who lets you hear how the music should be played. My son loves it. He is 8 and ever since I got this note book at the recommendation of his guitar teacher, he’d get up in the morning and play from it before school or on the weekends. For fun. It’s a great balance between nice tunes and moderately challenging accords.

This was one of the last Classical Guitar books I bought and this should have been the first. There are many beginner books out there but few that are intermediate. This is from advanced beginnner to intermediate and goes beyond the 1st and 2nd and 3rd positions. THere are several hints along the way to help one with practicing different techniques. Many of the techniques can be learned in Noad Book I, but I like Christopher's commentary on ways to practice, etc. Christopher Parkening's Method book 1 and 2 as well as the two Noad books, will teach anyone wanting to learn the classical guitar. They both take you from beginner and beyond.Most songs in this book are duplicated in so many other books for the Classical Guitar. It makes me wonder if there are any composers out there anymore. Per-Olov Kindgren is the only classical guitar composer that I've found out there so far.

Christopher Parkening is definitely a virtuoso. This version was updated in 1999 so essentially he had the time to get feedback on his first edition and make any corrections for this edition. The book is excellent; an excellent method. There are other methods out there such as Sagreras, Carcassi, and probably many more. I first learned classical completing the Carcassi method which was a wonderful experience. After some years of not playing I'm starting anew. This material is challenging in different ways. Each exercise is designed to develop a particular method or essential technique. The material should be gone through slowly and thoughtfully to get the most from each exercise. Highly recommended.

this volume is different from other methods, it's more a compendium of practical advices on how to face some problems, rather than the usual series of hand exercises. there's also a little repertoire, from ancient music to modern.especially some hints are really useful, and are changing my playing radically.it might not fulfil your needs, maybe, but i truly liked it.not what i expected, but even better!

Clear instruction and online downloadable audio so you can hear what the music should sound like. A great addition to Volume 1.

I have a classical guitar instructor, Pau Grabenstein, who recommended this series as my study guide. I am finishing my first year and was ready to see what the next book brings in exciting lessons. You couldn't ask for more in learning classical nylon string guitar method.

教本として　テクニカル編とレパートリー編に分かれている。テクニカル編は、練習録音がネットからダウンロードできるので参考にはなる。
