'70s Funk & Disco Bass: 101 Groovin' Bass Patterns (Bass Builders)

I found this book because I was reading Funk Keyboard by Gail Johnson and a reviewer of that book said to buy this. Since I am learning Bass I did buy and I'm amazed. This is a fantastic learning value.The author, des Pres, suggests that the best way to learn these is to just dive in and start trying to play them. There is no instruction in the book. There is a bass clef / Bass tab for each groove and a CD that plays them out.I decided to test the CD out by playing it and find out if anything caught my ear. Oh yeah! Right from the start the tracks caught my attention. They repeat the groove four times and I was finding myself upset that they were ending! Yes these are beats worth learning. There are 101 of them and they are pretty good for the most part with little filler.Since the grooves are short (2 to 4 measures) I've also been using this book for Bass ear training. I'll listen carefully to a track then try to find it on the fret board and get it down. I then "peek" inside the book to see if I'm correct. At first I seemed to be off a 3rd a lot but now I'm close 90% of the time except for a sixteen beat here or there. I hear bass differently now and this book made it easy.For the cost of this book you can learn a lot and have a lot of fun learning funk style organically.

The tab is accurate enough to get you going but you'll need to use your ears and brain to work out the most logical fingerings that work for you.That's the way a good musical instruction book should be written.

Lots of fun stuff in here. Reading the notation really helps with accurate subdivisions.Audio examples are played accurately as well. So you can really hear the 16th note rests, ghost notes and hammer ons.

Great book if you want to learn a quick tune or many on the bass. Buy this book. If you have any intrest in learning to play bass as a beginners or a pro, you wont go wrong

There are many good bass patterns in the book. If you like Funk and Grooving bass lines don't hesitate, GET IT!!!!

This is one of many books I use with students to get their playing up to speed and develop a sense of rhythm and groove. Great little book and the CD that goes with it sounds really good. If you were seriously working with this book you'd take the CD and loop the tracks into longer pieces on your desktop PC. In that process you could add a count-in. But this is what you need to do with most CDs that accompany books. Working through these books is more work than most people believe. If you work up a schedule of how to study, it will look like this; each two bar exercise needs to be played though at least for 20 minutes spread over 10 days (say 2 minutes a day for each exercise x 10 days) and there's 101 exercises = 33 hours of work. That will translate into about an hour and a half a day for a month. Or if you are like some of my students that will spread out over three months because you mix a load of other stuff into your practice sessions. Practice is the key with books like these - putting the work in pulls you ahead of the crowd.

Ce ne sont pas des titres de funk, mais des riffs de 20 notes ou plus, qu'on peut jouer en boucle sur le mp3 ou non.Un très bon entrainement pour tenir le rhytme.Les riffs sont tous quasiment bons et intéressants, bien funky et accessibles.Vraiment je recommande pour améliorer vitesse, placement et votre groove.C'est la base de l'instrument.

consiglio a tutti i bassisti che sono alla ricerca di nuove sonorità e che vogliono addentrarsi nello stile funk

Sehr gute Funk und Disco Bass Lines!! Es macht sehr viel Spaß mit diesen Buch zu arbeiten. Hörbeispiele sind etwas kurz aber man kann sich ja selbst etwas zusammen mischen ;)
