Bought for a 6th birthday for a boy who'd just met the Mr Men for the first time and found he could read most of them. He's also learning to swim so this seemed a good choice. He loved it.

My baby recently started swimming lessons so we got this as it’s something he’ll hopefully relate to as he gets older. The pictures are bright and fun and the story is simple which is perfect for us as our little man is just under 6 months but loves story books! It has a few of the characters in and I would say for older children who are learning to swim this would be an encouraging read! And there would be lots you could talk about through the pictures and words of the story.

I have mixed emotions about these ‘new’ Mr Men books; probably because I love the originals so much. However, these ‘Every Day’ stories are really nice to help explain what happens when young children first experiences things like going on holiday or, in this case, go swimming. My little nephew has recently started swimming lessons and this story was a fun introduction to swimming. First of all, we learn that you can swim in many places – such as the sea or lakes – but definitely not in the bath! Mr Tickle wants to learn to swim, so he heads to the swimming pool. We do learn though that it is very hard for Mr Tickle to swim with such long arms- will he work out a way to swim across the pool? In all seriousness, if you are looking for a story which will take your child through swimming lessons step by step, then you might want to try something like “Topsy and Tim Learn to Swim.” Still, this is a fun little story and, if your child likes the Mr Men, this is a good book to use to help talk about anything that might concern them or that they want to know. My nephew adores the Mr Men and liked this book and both the story and the illustrations led to him asking lots of questions and so it was very useful.
