Not durable
After very limited use (perhaps 20x), the mechanism stopped working. Despite several hours of disassembly and reassembly, it still does not function. The mechanism is really complex (probably not surprising) and disassembly was a pain. So now I own a $300 conventional boat hook. Very disappointed.

If you need to grab moorings, this is the best hook ever!!
It worked just like it appears to in the video! We grabbed a mooring ball in Monroe harbor, Chicago last week-end, the previous year we fought with the ball to get attached since our boat has such a high freeboard ( bow to waterline ) it took us 45 minutes and lots of arm and joint pain to only end up calling the tender for assistance. This hook is not too heavy, has the expandable options, floats if you drop it, but best of all it worked first time as promised! I practiced a few times at home with it before taking it to the boat. The "Eye bolt" I had was not as big as the one on the mooring ball but if you attach the line by pushing instead of pulling on a smaller Eye Bolt it worked fine. That is all explained in the directions that come with it along with illustrations. I strongly suggest practicing with it prior to arriving to pick up the ball. It is also useful as a standard boat hook when in the locked position. We purchased the longer model just to make sure we could reach ball comfortably. If you moor much or only a few times this thing is invaluable. Enjoy!

Must Have--Marriage saver.
You cannot have a yacht without this hook. We laugh at the other boats who hang by their feet over the boat rail to try and grab a buoy. Whoever dreamed this up is 1-a boater 2-a very smart engineer. Improvement would be to make it float. I'm going to drop this overboard one day and I will be a very sad person when I do.

This is a safety hazard.
Not only is this a waste of money it is dangerous as well. I successfully used this twice. Then It locked up on a mooring buoy and almost pulled my wife overboard. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a method to reset the hook, which I did. No go, again locked up and I ended up using a regular boat hook to moor and retrieve the Hook & Moor. Contacted the manufacturer again and there was no response, none. I have tried to reset this twice since and all appears to slide nicely but as soon as I test it on a ring it again locks up. Trash. If you have one and use it have a boat hook handy to save your mooring.Note the picture, when this happens you are snookered.

Worth the $$
Very well built, expensive but better than the other ones we have had. Yes it’s heavy but that is what makes it awesome, seems well built.

Doesn’t work reliably
The design with the silver movable hook is junk. I just bought it and it has jammed several times, the balls have skipped in their tracks and it just doesn’t work. I’ve cleaned it, repaired it, soaked it in soapy water and considered flooding it with silicone spray maybe later. In the meantime all I have is an overpriced boat hook.
