Short term solution, long term spare.
The coax wire running up the inside of my mast lost its center connection and would require the mast to come down to run a new wire. In that this is mid season in the NE I do not want to do that now,so....The range is less than the mast mounted antenna, as expected, but I still can reach out 2 to 3 miles with this antenna at deck level.

I needed a temporary antenna and this works great. My unit receives AIS and the signals come through W/O issue.

Great emergency VHF antenna.
Great. Hoisting up mast on halyard resulted in good distance if it stays vertical. Also, used an adapter to attach to a hand held, and really improved the distance just holding it up with one hand while using the hand held with the other.
