Very supportive and eye opening
I've just started reading it and it opens up with validating and easing you into the exercises. It doesn't rush you into them and the book states that you may have to take a break and sothe yourself. I love this book and it's already helped me.

This book is NOT easy, but it really is helpful.
I am working through this book. I have finished the first chapter that contained exercises. The exercises are not easy, but once you've written everything down you feel a bit better about things.I am using this book in conjunction with therapy, and highly recommend that you have a therapist or someone you can talk to while you work through this book.So I did the exercises one night, and then went to therapy the next morning. I read everything to my therapist and I felt really good. But after therapy suddenly I felt emotionally, physically, and mentally exhausted. I couldn't do anything the rest of the day.You will feel a lot of emotions come up while you do the exercises...from anger, to sadness, to fear, etc. That is why I recommend having somebody you can talk to. These emotions can be hard to sit with on your own.I hope this review was helpful, because it wasn't like I wanted everyone on the internet knowing what happened to me.jamesgirl

Gentle, helpful, perfectly meets my needs!
So far, so GREAT! Very gentle. Doesn't start of asking me to write the story of what happened, like another I returned. It suggests getting a bit to do written exercises in...I'm not fully sure why because I'm only about four chapters in and although I've had to reference past exercises, I have not had to add to them yet. Being set up with dividers and looseleaf, makes referencing back chapters easy though and I'm happy with the few bucks I invested. It also recommends a separate trauma workbook and gives a list of suggestions. I am SO glad! The one I chose is SO helpful! I am finally, thoroughly addressing both past and recent issues! I feel myself growing and healing. This is just what I needed.

helpful exercises
I found the author's suggestions helpful in recovering from my rape. Of course nothing can substitute for counseling, but the author did a good job of not being patronizing.

THE most helpful book about rape
I bought this book after my adult daughter was raped. I bought it to give to her before returning to school, where the crime was committed. But I looked at it first. I could have read the whole book in one afternoon but from what I read it is an important tool in the process of coming to terms with the humiliating crime of rape.We still live in a male-oriented world after all the strides we've tried to take as women. That being said, rape is not taken as seriously as it should be by the whole legal and medical systems. There is much work to be done for future generations of women. As a woman, mother and parent I am outraged by the lack of seriousness taken by the "authorities" but without this becoming a diatribe let me just say that this book will begin to help heal the broken spirit of the victims of rape. Whether you are the victim or a loved one who is trying to help, this book will begin a dialoge at the very least.Bonnie S.

While this book may be incredibly helpful to some. This was not the book for me, being that I suffer from PTSD due to my abuse as well as severe anxiety, this book was simply a book full of triggers and very overwhelming for me.

Just threw this out because I don't need it anymore!
I threw this book out this morning while cleaning out my closet and remembered how much it had done for me.When I bought it I never imagined a time when I would look back on my assault as just an event in my life- not something that defined me.This book, in combination with therapy, really helped me to move on from my assault and remove the pain and emotional hurt associated with the event.This book was an important part of my recovery and I would recommend it to anyone. It is small, but the activities are thought-provoking and helped me to shift the blame from me to my rapist.Good luck on your journey!

Amazing
This book is a little hard to get through, just because of the content and the exercises. However, it's an amazing recovery tool and companion. Aphrodite goes through each exercise slowly and compassionately and leaves plenty of comfort room to the reader. She continuously reminds the reader of her control over her recovery and future. This book is INCREDIBLE. I recommend it to anyone looking to make a comfortable, full, recovery.
