Works really well!
The media could not be loaded. I just got this detector and Huepar 503CG laser level to use outdoors building screen rooms patio covers and pool enclosures. Most of what I do is in the bright sun and no laser level can really be seen beyond a short distance. This detector solves that problem if you use it with a compatible green laser with pulse mode. Some reviews have said it's too sensitive and it's hard to get it to the solid tone lining up with the laser. I've seen that complaint about all detectors. It's not a problem with the detector. These are sensitive down to a small fraction of an inch. If you're not able to hold it at that it's not going to tone in. I was able to find the beam and get it to tone in easily at about 70 ft just holding it in my hand. I didn't test beyond that. ANY detector takes a steady hand and a little bit of practice to use precisely. The fact is most people don't need that level of precision for what they might be doing at those distances. If you can get it to beep on either side you'll still be within a small fraction of an inch.It also has to be a certain distance away from the laser level. It's not far but if you try testing it at a few inches it's not going to work properly. That also goes with any detector. This has to be used with a green laser that has"pulse mode" and pulse mode has to be turned on. I'm sure at least some of the negatives are from people using it with the wrong laser or using it incorrectly. The beeping is very loud. It can be turned off but there are no volume settings. You can comfortably hold it with your thumb over the speaker and that makes a big difference but I wish it had a volume control. I'll probably put a piece of tape over the speaker. I wouldn't reduce a star for it because it's not sold as having a volume control. I'd rather it be too loud than too quiet as there are times where you might want to set the detector in place and move the laser from a distance and listen for the tone.I also like that it has LED indicators on the front, the back, and one side. That's a feature a lot of high-end detectors don't even have. That's handy and a tight area, working on a ladder or some other position where you can't comfortably see the front of it.

Useful outdoors - good value for the money
I use this to determine land slope and water drainage direction of residential property. I'm regrading / resloping the yard prior to installing pavements / patios etc.Positives: Easy to use. Seems accurate. Can be used daytime - you won't see the laser beam with the naked eye but this tool sees it and "beeps". Range probably 40 to 50 feet + / - which provides an effective radius of 40 to -50 = 80 to100 total feet edge to edge range. Might be a little more.It works - I measure in 1/4" increments. The laser is tighter but for practical purposes at a range of 50 feet the beam is probably close to an 1/8" so I measure to the closest 1/4 inch.Indoors you can see the beam perfectly under most lighting conditions.Outdoors the light of the laser beam is washed out by sunlight so it is essential to have this instrument that "beeps" when the beam hits it. This instrument makes it possible to use the green laser outdoors in the daytime.Negatives: Not much. for the cost is performs just fine. This is not an industrial tool. Not intended for road builders or large commercial property work. For home projects it is very good.

Customer service
After two years laser detector started to fail. I contacted Huepar . Best customer service I have ever experienced. They were easy to work with. Three days later I had a new detector. No charge. Can’t get better than that.

Cheap quality, but it did work for 30 mins.
Worked till it didn't. Pulled the battery out and the prong was broke off in the battery compartment. Poor quality.

Tells you just how bad your eye is for level...
I measure grade on residential properties for my Landscape architect wife, and then do some light leveling for my own GC work. This thing is great. Works perfectly.

Easy to use and dependable.
Easy to use and easy to set up. It does have to have a pulsed laser in order recognize the laser. I’ve had it for a year now and it has been well worth it.

OK but repeatable within 1/4 inch
I bought this reader to grade a property. It was very useful but not accurate. It had difficulties reading in the sun. Had to create shade over the sensor to get it to read. The accuracy drop beyond 30 feet.Overall, not a bad reader and useful at the price point. Battery life is also very good.It shuts off by itself which helps save battery power.
