Very real and difficult times are portrayed through the lives of an imagined family and their communities. The setting, coastal Greece, is palpable, the characters nuanced and compelling. Life is full of reversals, and this story deals with major ones. The reader, like the characters, comes to realize that the only thing we never abandon is hope.

The more pages that you read, the better the book gets. I ended up loving it!

Loved this book! Very well written. The characters are believable and I feel like I learned something about this era.
