Pimsleur is the only brand that works!!!
I am terrible at learning languages--I had to repeat every language class I took in school--but have been able to learn a sizable amount of Spanish and chunks of Hindi, Russian, French, Japanese and Italian by using Pimsleur language CD's. I have tried to use other programs and have gotten nowhere. With Pimsleur I learn quickly effectivley and in a way that makes it easy to have actual conversations with actual people. Pimsleur works because they structure your learning for you, you don't have to figure out the best way to practice/study because the lessons are already structured the way your brain learns best. Not having a text ensures you learn proper pronunciation by not confusing your brain with pronouncing words like they are written till after you learn how to say them right. These tapes are terribly sexist, especially the Hindi, they always assume that you are a man, which is messed up because of the 16 or so people I know going to India (most in my school group, a few separate) only two are male. Thats messed up!!!!! Normally that would cause me not to buy a product, but with this it would be shooting myself in the foot, because there are no other programs even 50% as good as this. The comprehensive Pimsleur for Hindi is comming out in September (a month after I get back) or I would have bought that instead. Usually you can find the comprehensive versions of Pimsleur online for as cheap as $150 and worth every penny. I hope they get there act together and stop being so sexist in their newer editions. Also, just a note, this particular Pimsleur set is more concentrated than their usual stuff I think because they weren't selling a comprehensive set origionally, so they go faster than usual which means you should expect to practice each lesson a few times. On the other hand I was happy because that meant I got more words for a lower price.

Good for practicing listening and speaking
FYI - I ordered both the basic and the conversational Hindi course and found the first 10 lessons are the same in both :(I did have some understanding of basic Hindi grammar and gender (Duolingo) so I was able to focus in on pronunciation and speaking without trying to figure out sentence structure and the sounds of different verb endings.Since I am a very visual learner, I always looked up the new words after each lesson to make sure I was hearing the words correctly. (I thought the speakers didn't enunciate the sounds clearly sometimes so seeing the words helped me.)I did think the lessons went at a good pace. Even when I didn't think I mastered the content of a lesson I found I could go on to the next lesson because there was a lot of review to reinforce what I had learned previously.I really appreciated being challenged to created new sentences with vocabulary and to recall content from previous lessons. It was encouraging to see my progress as the words became easier and easier to recall and I was able to make new sentences.I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get a start on learning Hindi.

Hindi is not Easy
I do not find Hindi that easy. All the romance languages make sense to me, but Hindi seems so different. Perhaps because you throw all the nouns and adverbs at the beginning and the verbs at the end - it would be natural to speak fast - since the meaning is mostly conveyed early? The masculine and feminine forms do not come that easily with an auditory approach. But this is still quite enjoyable and I am picking words out of Bollywood movies on occasion. Seems to be a very good first exposure.

Conversational Hindi is helping me to build my language-speaking skills and I would recommend it to anyone trying Hindi for the
I started Conversational Hindi by Pimsleur shortly after purchase and was quickly able to understand and speak the language of the the native speakers on three of the discs. The repetition of words and sentences gave me time to follow and repeat the sentences in Hindi. I am hoping to finish off the rest of the discs in a couple of weeks. Conversational Hindi is helping me to build my language-speaking skills and I would recommend it to anyone trying Hindi for the first time.

Comprehension builds, but at the risk of mass confusion.
At first, I liked this. However, it is confusing regarding gender usage. For example, one is asked: "How would a man answer?" Well, my brain would say, "Do you really want to reply like a man since you're a woman?" And I would get stuck in the no-reply zone. I could never get my brain wrapped around the requirement to just say it and move on.This is probably very good for comprehension after one is familiar with Hindi. Until then, I would avoid it. I do think the method, overall, really works. They just need to figure out a way to deal with gender differences.

This method makes it very easy. I don’t care repeating 10 times the same ...
I’m speaking 4 languages and try to learny Hindi. This method makes it very easy. I don’t care repeating 10 times the same sentence if it gives me the chance to use properly for ever. After 10 lessons I really started to understand Hritick Roshan hahaha. So what I continue to level 2.... and hopefully will watch Hindi movies with no subtitles

Conversational Hindi
This program was OK, When you say conversation, you think everyday conversation. How is the weather? How is your family? It would be nice if that kind of conversation was included. It is more formal, such as "are you American or from India". All in all this program is OK.
