The Life Recovery Bible NLT, Personal Size Paperback – April 1, 2007

I bought this bible to aid me in recovery. It is amazing. I never really got 'the bible' before, especially the old testament. The notes and devotions this book has ties every chapter to the 12 steps in a way that even my overly intellectual brain could understand. It also presents a 'big picture overview' with themes for each book which is very helpful. It made a huge difference in my ability to understand God as my higher power. It gave me the connection to scripture i had never found before.I liked it so much, I bought the workbook and journal that go along with it.That being said, I found the hardcover to be a bit difficult to use, small print, my old eyes, not knowing where to find the books, having to flip back and forth etc. I decided to try the kindle version, though I have had some bad experiences with non-fiction kindle books, especially the zooming feature which I find practically useless for reading charts and diagrams. This book was made just for the kindle. Everything is easy to find, clicking on the verse number that is underscored takes you the exact same notes as in the book, hyper-links to other passages make navigating the bible so simple.An alphabetical list of all the books makes finding anything super simple. All in all. a great book for those in recovery, especially those new to the bible, and made even easier by having it on my kindle.

This bible is awesome. It includes the 12 steps used by Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous but with Jesus as your God rather than "God as you perceive him to be." Since it's written from a Christian point of view, it doesn't say "Once an addict , always an addict." God can and will do the impossible in your life. He has taken my hurts and hang ups and used them to grow my faith and make me stronger. I used this bible in a Celebrate Recovery class which is the Christian NA or AA. It covers hurts, habits and hang ups. It is absolutely perfect for any area of your life. I used it to get through grief over the loss of my spouse of 37 years and childhood molestation over a period of 10 years.It is written in an easy to understand version with side notes that use specific verses to tie in the 12 steps and gives you an opportunity for deeper study. It also has a 12 step study program. I still use this bible today. It's a wonderful resource and could be used as a gift to someone suffering from addiction (habits) to someone who may be suffering from a hurt or hang up (control, anger issues).

I bought 2 of these Bibles, one for me & one for my Step-Son. My Step-Son is in rehab for drug & alcohol addiction/abuse. He had seen this Bible while he was in prison and wanted one. I have read 3 versions of the Bible all the way through and wanted to read this one, too. I really like this Bible because it is written in easy to understand, modern everyday language. I love the notes on the side of the pages and also at the bottom. This helps clarify what is being read. This Bible could be read & understood by anyone. It's almost in a storybook version and this style makes it very interesting. If anyone has ever wanted to read the Bible all the way through, but found it too difficult, this would be the Bible to read. I feel that everyone has issues, not just recovering alcoholics/drug addicts. This Bible helps us all to look at our lives and address all issues that would keep us from following the life Christ would have us to lead. I can't wait to read this Bible every morning! It is truly wonderful and I recommend it to everyone of all ages.

i am rereading it again

This particular version of the bible is so much more! It gave me direction and hope when my recovery was in the painful and unrelenting stage. It showed me through each step, each principle, each serenity prayer devotionals and all the amazing information on feelings that God's power lives within me as a Christian. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. It is not I but Christ whom I give this glory. This bible is the living word of God, it comes alive through the special unique things it offers but it is first and foremost our guidebook for Life! This bible lays out the steps plainly, it deals with every single thing we go through in life, not just recovery. I recommend it for "everyone" not just those going through some type of recovery.I believe God has used it in my life to help heal and understand my wounds and to give me courage to push through the pain to the other side, one where I am not just sober but grateful for this trial. I absolutely love it and give it to all my sponsees!God bless you all.

Really practical,understandable

I'm not the most diligent Amazon reviewer, but this book prompted me to leave a glowing review - consider it a share for the benefit of my fellow travellers in recovery, regardless of their specific drug or behaviour of 'choice'. I am fairly new to recovery and the 12-steps, and like many addicts coming into the 12-step fellowships, I have come to the idea of 'Higher Power' with a lot of baggage and resistance. I still consider myself on the cusp between atheism and agnosticism, and have also been looking into Buddhist approaches to ideas of 'higher power', inspired largely by the books 'One Breath at a Time' and 'The 12 Step Buddhist' - both excellent guides to integrating mindfulness and the four-noble truths with 12 Step recovery. However, inspired by stories contained the AA Big Book, I made a commitment to side step theological niceties as so many obstructions to progress and to simply explore spirituality in a non-judgemental, non-doctrinaire approach. Viewed in this way, the Bible, no less (perhaps more) than many other spiritual tomes has enormous spiritual wisdom that can be of great help and succour to the recovering addict. The beauty of this version is that it provides well-considered, structured reading cycles corresponding to each of the steps and the 'serenity prayer', as well as much other supporting material, providing a 'way in' to what would otherwise be an intimidating read for those not steeped in Christianity. It is also based on a very modern translation, the New Living Translation, making the text of the bible accessible yet elegant in style as well as profound in content. In sum, I would strongly recommend this book to those coming into recovery who wish to make progress in developing a conception of higher power that is dynamic and non-judgemental. A truly inspired recovery tool.

It is so good to have 'The Life Recovery Bible' and reading it along-side working through the accompanying 12-step recovery tool, 'The Life Recovery Workbook'. I can highly recommend the set and encourage folk to use them... and not only people who identify with 'being in recovery'; but to anyone claiming to be in Christian discipleship.

Great bible. Has scipture relating to 12 steps. I also like the biographies of people in the bible. I recommend to all in 12 step program

The teachings in the bible range from, 'Be perfect as God is perfect.' to, 'Run in God's race -in such a way- as to win the prize.' I like this recovery bible because every person in any stage of recovery needs to be reminded, "Do your best because the best is all you can do."
