Sharp, effortless and easy to use
I purchased an off brand the same day I purchased this. It’s night and day between the two. The difference is this one is sharp! It’s effortless to skive with. I sat in my car and tested it. You don’t have to dig into the leather. I did on the first test and it was tough. I used a lower angle and less pressure and could have thinned the leather by hand. And I’m super new to the hobby. November 2022 new to it and learning on my own. Sharp tools are everything! Well worth the wait!

Crazy sharp! Well worth the price
This thing is great! It's very sharp and can shave leather no problem at all. Was expecting it to need some sharpening but that is not the case at all. Very pleased with purchase.

Japanese STYLE skiver...
...but not the real deal. At this price, it can't happen. That said: The handle is solidly attached and seems to be decent hardwood, though I'll probably sand the finish off for better grip. The blade is about 2mm or 5/64" thick, and mine is holding an edge nicely. Overall finish of the knife is good. Caveat: Mine came with a hollow ground edge at about a 30 degree angle, and it was ground uneven, though it was sharp and relatively straight. I've already started correcting this issue, I have whetstones, strops and years of sharpening experience. Minus 1 star for improperly sharpened edge.

Takes a bit of sharpening
Took a bit of sharpening with 1200 grit sandpaper and stropping and it cuts really nicely. needd to be stropped frequently.

With a little elbow action this is a great knife !
This is a skiving knife but if you want this to work like the top name brands , you’re mean to do some sanding .. on the bevel side facing down. You’re shooting for a 10 dreg angle . Blue tape a round pice of nylon on the handle so you can redress that angle. Start with 80 grit , marker up the blade . I did mine on a granite tile and the area that I’m sanding is only touching the blade . The nylon spacers is wrapped with blue tape . It takes time to redress the angle . Once that has a burr on the opposite side switch to 150 grit and repeat the process. Use a fine grit stone to clean the burr off the back . Then go to 180 grit so the same . After I got to 220-320 I started using the sand paper on the bevel on the back. I used water on the wet/ dry sandpaper. I went all the way to 15000 grit . Front and back , make sure on the back you hold the blade flat to the sandpaper. Keep the same amount of pressure on the blade fro start to finish. Onlt the cutting edge of the blade will be on the sandpaper . Once you get to 15000 grit do it bevel side and back 3-4 times . Your done wit the sandpaper. Now on to the strop board buy one or make one and use green stick compound on the smooth side of the leather. 20 times on the bevels side and the same on the back holding it flat . Then 15 , 10, 5 ,1 . It should be very sharp . Now this will shive shuck or thin leather , I’ve done four knives the cheap ones and a planer blade . Or you can spend the extra coin a buy a higher tagged knife and hit it with a strop and your set. Good luck , thanks for reading my story 😎

Gets dull very fast
When it is sharp, it cuts well. But, it gets dull after about 10 passes. Gets dull a too fast. Pribably best invest in a quality skiving knife.

Bargain
For 10 dollars you could do a lot worse than this knife. When it arrives it had a secondary bevel as seen. It was able to shave hairs on the back of my hand out of the box, but the edge was convex very very slightly. I used a belt sander and made a single 15 degree bevel. Then I used diamond stones to get it down to about 1200, then on to the strop with green compound until very reflective. About 30 to 40 minutes of work to make it hair popping sharp. It is actually pretty nice for cutting out pieces in lay up, but I dedicated it solely to skiving so I dont have to worry about the edge as much. Make a little sheath for it so you dont ding it or cut yourself.

Guter Auslieferungszustand.
