I love this product
This was one of the very first things I bought when I brought my puppy home, as daily waste "piles up" quickly. Digging the hole was a bit of a challenge, as I don't have a post hole digger and the dimensions are tricky, but it really only took a morning of work. Setup is simple, as is maintenance...pick up poop, add water every day, drop an enzyme tablet in once a week.Obviously you need to pay a little attention to a few things. The first of which would be where you dig the hole. Bear in mind that you will likely be putting at least 3 gallons of water in this every day, so putting it close to a water source would be to your benefit. Also, you need good drainage. Three plus gallons of water in the tank daily equals three plus gallons of water overflowing into the hole beneath the tank, so if you install this in wet ground, dense earth or clay, it's likely not going to work very well. Lastly--you actually have to pick up the poop. I'm not one to leave my dog's waste lying around the yard for days at a time; that sort of defeats the purpose of having a waste disposal system. It's really a simple concept: Poop happens, pick it up. Drop it in the tank. Add water. Done.Installed and used properly, this product does exactly what it is designed to do, and my yard is a clean, enjoyable place for both humans and canines.

Green way to deal with pet waste
We've had this for at least a couple of months now, for our 50 lb. dog, and so far it is working just fine. Our primary motivation to get it was to have a more environmentally friendly way of dealing with dog waste, rather than tossing bags into the trash. Saving on not having to buy bags is also a plus.It was a little tough digging a narrow hole that was deep enough, even with a post hole digger. The manufacturer recommends 4 feet, but we could only get to about 3 or 3 and a half. The Doggie Dooley definitely smells when you open it to add waste or water, but when closed we haven't noticed any odors in our yard (which isn't very big). Considering that you essentially have a stew of dog waste sitting in the Dooley at all times, I think the lack of smell is impressive.I would definitely recommend this so far!

Not so happy with this...
Used this product for several months and then I discontinued using this item. The contents did not dissolve as promised. Had to buy another product used for septic systems to reduce the contents. I have been continuing to add water in hopes one day it will all go away. I now use a pooper scooper I purchased from Petco years ago. Put the contents in a scented plastic bag contained in a small trash can with foot pedal to open. Once a week I hide the contents of the plastic bag in with the weekly garbage.

Doggie Do Nuthin'
It doesn't break down waste as I thought it would. You're supposed to dig a 4 ft deep hole, which is impractical. My hole is about 3 ft deep. You need to add water (about a gallon), every time you add waste, which is a pain in the summer months, and a real hassle when the temps dip below freezing. All in all, you're better off getting a bucket from Home Depot, lining it with a plastic bag, and throwing the stools in the trash each week.

Be careful
This thing worked great for a while. But pretty soon the doggie doodie wasn't "liquifying" like it should have, even though I followed the directions (using their powder) and deposited the "load" of one dog, rather than two. What's more, what WAS properly overflowing into the hole apparently wasn't seeping into the soil much, because a few months later it would overflow no more. Now I have a four foot hole full of Doggie Dooley doodie that I don't want to go near!Great idea for a product - very green. But be careful. I would actually give this thing one star, except for the outside chance that my soil is simply rockier or less porous than the average garden. I'd say, dig your hole before you buy this, and if you get four feet down and the soil is still porous, maybe it'll work for you. Didn't for me.

Liked it but could not use
Although I liked the Doggie Dooley, I had to return it. It didn't specify when I purchased it that a four-foot by 16 inch hole had to be dug in which to insert it. I am not physically able to dig a hole (nearly my height) to be able to use it. I was under the impression that the hole was to be only as deep as the item (approx 16 in). Since it must be filled with water each time waste is added, it is not usable in the winter months with freezing temps. It was supposed to come with a small supply of enzyme and a scoop, but there was no scoop enclosed. I used the same item approximately 30 years ago, but I do not recall it having a bottom and the waste fell to the bottom of the dirt hole, which was only half as deep as this one required. It is a great concept, but digging so far down is no longer an option for me.

So far so good
Has been installed now for about 1 1/2 months and so far so good. Disappointed as the photo makes it appear you get the small plastic scooper but it does not come with it. At least what I received did not have it. I tested my ground first by digging the hole and then adding 5 gallons of water. The hole was dry after 24 hours so it says it will work. So far not too bad. Slight smell when you open the lid and get close but not much. Also when you add the water you get a hint as well. Hopefully it won't get worse as the temperature increases. So far temp has been between about 55 F to 70 F.

Hunk of Junk
I dug as deep a hole as I could in my back yard for this item. Not only did it not drain because there is too much clay content in my soil. I was constantly tripping on it when mowing the lawn and it broke very easily. Overpriced garbage. The digester poweder did not break the fecal matter down any faster than just hosing it either. What a horrible smell eminated from it!
