Toshiba S300 6TB Surveillance 3.5” Internal Hard Drive – CMR SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache - HDWT360UZSVAR

It works just like it should. I am happy with this purchase.

I ordered the 4Tb but it was too noisy. I promptly sent it back and exchanged it for a 6Tb. When the 6Tb arrived, I was dismayed, to say the least that the drive was not in a static-proof package, like the 4Tb was when it arrived. The 6Tb installed easily. However it is noisy. Not as much as the 4Tb was, but nonetheless noisy. From 15ft away, and over a running humidifier, it sounds like a teletype and or a gremlin chewing on nuts. I'm wondering, if I was sent a used one. Would I order another one from Toshiba... AOC will carry 90% of the country or hell will freeze over when I do.

I put this into a RAID-1 mirroring enclosure with a Seagate NAS drive. The combination appears to be working fine with no problems, although this drive is only being used for storage of documents and media, not a particularly demanding task.

Work for security

This drive is loud. Put it in the NVR for almost a week, so far so good. The first one they sent me was defective. Have to return that one.

This drive is now making a horrible noise. Very bad. Not advertised as noisy over time Been quiet since I bought it but in the past week it has begun to make noise. Follow up with drive. It's not the drive it's the fan in the enclosure the drive is in. So just disconnected the fan inside the enclosure alls well with the drive. Great drive high capacity.

Replacing an old Toshiba 1TB drive that was used for data storage and surveillance video in a home server, this drive had an important job to fill. Overall I am pretty happy with the lack of noise from a 6 TB drive and little vibration that occurs. The nice thing about this hard drive is that it's simple, if you are using a Windows and Linux environment you won't have any issues with the initial setup in either environment. Performance has been great and way better than I thought, apparently more money and higher quality drives perform better, who would have guessed? The results are pictured, note that the results of the 6 TB drive are much better than my used 1 TB hard drive (A Toshiba P300). Under heavy workloads of doing 2 low quality-1080p video feeds and file transfers over the network, I noticed that the drive never fell in performance for the video recording side or the speed of transfer. Previously, on my 1TB P300 video would lose quality or lose any usable feed, not so one this drive. It is worth noting that this is running on a small home server and not a large enterprise area. Toshiba has been fairly reliable for me, though I wished the warranty was longer than 3 years though I suppose these are pretty stressed consistently and cheaper at times. I will update this review if any issues arrise.

My security system has been needing a memory upgrade and this product does the trick. It can store several days worth of video footage. I have it set up where it would eventually just override. I have played back a few videos and it works pretty well. There are not bad footage or delay due to writing. It can be a bit noisy and does generate a bit of heat. This is also a sata drive so you can use it as a storage drive if you need to for your PC or using it in an external. It transfers pretty quick depending on the medium that you are using. It is a bit heavy for a drive and I am not entirely sure why. It is a bit noisy when it is on and get a bit warm but that feels normal for a drive of this capacity. Overall I think this product is great if you are looking for a good hard drive for your security system.
