Babalawo: The Secrets of Afro-Cuban Ifa

Best introduction to Cuban IFA
If you really want to understand the Cuban system of IFA in simple English terms by this. Recommended by my Babalawo before receiving my hand in IFA. Just remember that everybody in these traditions has their opinion. The information in this book is traditional and accurate.

Good book full of info, but lacking in "secrets"as expected
The book was good, well written and entertaining. He gives some historical accounts of afro cuban ifa and santería.He explains some aspects of intiation as well as some of the structure of the religion. It would have been great to get more info on some of the signs(odu) and even perhaps ways aleyos(new comers/strangers) can approach the religion to get more familiarized with it.

Don't start this book if you don't have time to finish it
This book is for anyone who has any interest in the Afro-Cuban Lukumi religious tradition -- known to some as Santeria, to others as La Regla de Ocha. Ifa sits at its heart, Ifa is the heartbeat. Frank Baba Eyiogbe, a babalawo, a priest of Ifa, explains how this magnificent religion traveled with the slaves through the Middle Passage from West Africa to Cuba, and became something entirely of its own in the New World. This is a book for all practitioners, be they santeros, santeras, oriates, obas, or babalawos, be they elders or the newly initiated. If you find yourself peeking in from the outside, this book is for you, too.Babalawo is both masterfully researched and elegantly written. Frank Baba Eyiogbe draws on deep experience, both as a santero and as a babalawo, to explain the intricate inner workings of what remains a cloaked and hidden religious practice. Some secrets are secret, it turns out, for very good reason. Frank Baba Eyiogbe also brings to this story his American perspective, demonstrating by his own example that Ifa embraces anyone, everyone, who approaches with an open heart and an open mind.In the end, this is a very human book about a very human religion that embraces all life everywhere all the time. This is a book that challenges all of us to seek answers to the questions we have yet to speak out loud. There are answers to those questions. Frank Baba Eyiogbe shows us one place and one way those answers can be found, and lived.

I have not been able to put this book down since I got it. The chapter on quantum physics literally changed my viewpoint on everything! Regardless of what path you take in this life, this book has something for you in it.

Accessible and Informative
Just started reading this book and already I’m anxious to get through the entire book! Very easy to read. Nicely structured. Written with the “new comer” in mind but still appeals to current and long-time practitioners. I will probably re-read this book many times over.
