Best of Eric Johnson (Guitar Recorded Versions)

I bought this book to save on transcription time and by that standard it was worth it.. I will warn you that some of the suggested fingerings by the tab are not ideal tonally but you can figure out more authentic ways of playing the notes. Also, the bulk of the song is in 12/8 time, so if you're trying to program drums you need two extra beats per measure. The toughest part of 'Cliffs of Dover' in the early going is the pick and fingers wind up lick leading into that daring pick harmonic. Eric seems to have little trouble with the wind up lick(from the live DVD pinky- floating not anchored) but the pick harmonic in conjunction with a string bend is a 50/50 shot for me. I believe he just plays the note on the video. The 1st fast descending lick after the half time feel begins is probably mis-tabbed It's one of the toughest runs he does. I believe you have to play it in a way where you generate more momentum. The monster decending lick that comes thereafter in the 2nd half of the lead guitar part is another make or break moment in the song. I've altered some of the positions and fingerings on that. I believe the pull-off lick(half-way thru) is done in a zig-zaggy way down the 1st string from the 12th to 7th fret position with quick positional shifts It's very difficult to play consistently at tempo (190 bpm). The way he ends the phrase, pulling off from the low B on the 6th string to the open E(very last note of the lick) is just too cool ! It's cool but is your guitar's intonation up to it? This solo will definitely bring out any weakness there. Ofcourse the final hurdle comes at the very end of the song and if you've read this far, you know what I'm talkin about. Eric pretty much breezes through that part live and once again I don't agree with the fingerings suggested by the tab although the notes are correct. Eric is in the 7th fret position on the tail end of that lick from the video. I wonder how Barry Galbraith would have played this solo ? Too hard just forget about it..asked and answered! If they had included the live version of 'Cliffs' that would have been nice cause it has further variation. In conclusion I believe 99% of the transcribed notes are correct but some of the suggested fingerings may not be. That's the beauty and the limitation of tab !

The music is there, but on any of my devices, PC, iPad or Kindle Fire HD, the sheet music is slightly blurred. Cannot scale it larger as it just scales the blur larger. TAB is not easy to read. This needs to be fixed. Dissapointed.
