The Art of My Neighbor Totoro: A Film by Hayao Miyazaki

If you're a fan of Totoro this book is amazing. All the concept art and early designs are an interesting look at how the movie was made. It's not as thick of a book as the Art of Ponyo or Spirited Away, both of which I got before this one, but it's still well worth the purchase.

I got "The Art of My Neighbor Totoro" as a gift for someone else, but I also received "The Art of Castle in the Sky" a few years before and absolutely loved it. I appreciate the storyboarding process and seeing the ideation of these wonderful films. When you don't always have time to watch the movie, it's nice to turn the pages and seeing the art and creation process. Enjoy!

The book arrived quickly but when it arrived the box was bigger than the book and I assumed that the way it was jostled it must've ripped the end pages causing the rest of the book to threaten to fall from the covers. I filed for a replacement and it arrived quickly before and intact! Aside from how quickly and kindly they took care of this issue, the book itself is amazing. I love studio ghibli movies and the work they produce. The pages are beautiful and shows scenes and characters from the movie during the process stages. I use this book as a source of inspiration for myself as an artist but it also gives me insight as to some of the thoughts and careful planning that went into this movie to add to my own process.

The book arrived in a not so perfect condition. But still very much good enough to keep and cherish. I love the book. The peek into the background of the story, into the production and the ongoing behind the scenes are so insightful. Worth it for any studio ghibli or Totoro fan or aspiring artists. Would always buy it again ☘️

All of the titles in the Studio Ghibli Library series are gorgeous and worth buying, and this one is no exception. It follows the same format as the other titles and is hardback with no dust cover and is 176 pages, which makes it a little shorter than the others. This may be due to the fact that it does not contain the screenplay from the film. The book is divided into the following chapters: Initial concept sketches The art of animated films Totoro animation technique Totoro production report The Art of Animated Film chapter contains concept sketches, storyboards, concept art, cel art, and film images. You may recognize Kazuo Oga's artwork and this is a real treat for those who enjoy his work like I do. This is my favorite Miyazaki film and so this title in particular is a real treat. Highly recommended.

nice art and didn’t come damaged

Beautiful, large hardcover book that is perfect for gift giving or any Tortoro fan. My daughter was so excited to see this book as she is a big Studio Ghibli fan and has a collection of "The Art Of" books. Beautiful illustrations and interesting excerpts to read.

One of my favorite Miya-san films, Totoro here gets the 'Art of' treatment and it's wonderful to see the concept sketches, cell work, and gorgeous background work of Kazuo Oga in beautiful glossy paper stock. Small anecdotes about the creation of the story dot the chapters and lead to a more learned understanding of the work. I would love to own reproductions of some of the background art. Great book!

Beautiful book! I especially loved the discussion of drawing the house in different light, weather conditions, and months of the year, as well as how its depiction was approached from various angles/entrance points. Amazing amount of thought put into figuring out the light to bring the house to life. The house setting is one of my favorite aspects of the film. The books also tells an interesting story of character evolution since initially it was supposed to be about one girl.

Mostra o processo de criação de My Neighbor Totoro, detalhes do processo de criação das personagens, dos cenários e duas seções importantes - uma sobre a técnica de animação do filme e outra, um relatório de produção com vários pequenos detalhes que fizeram a alegria de uma fã de carteirinha como eu! Encadernação em capa dura, muito bem feita, que vai me permitir guardar este tesouro por tempo indefinido! Uma pequena maravilha! PS: A pessoa que recebeu este livro (EU!), tem 63 anos (com uma alma de quatro anos).

Ich bin ein großer Fan von Ghibli. Die Filme von Ghibli sind großartig und haben eine wirklich einzigartige Ästhetik und Atmosphäre. Das Buch enthält wunderschöne Illustrationen und Hintergrundinformationen.
