Where is the kava sourced from, and how is it processed?

Thank you for your question! We currently source our kava from Vanuatu and Fiji. At Yogi, we use a very pure and standardized Kava Root Extract. This extract comes only from the root of the plant and is not derived at all from the stems or leaves. The herbal extracts used in our teas are first extracted directly from the herb or botanical in either a water solution or a water/alcohol solution, and are then heated and spray dried into a powder form. These spray dried powders are then added to some of our teas to enhance the tea’s purposeful function. Herbal extracts are a more concentrated version of the plant itself. We hope this helps!

Does this have any calories?

Thank you for your question! All Yogi teas, including Kava Stress Relief, contain less than one calorie per tea bag and less than 1/2 gram of carbohydrates per tea bag. Hope this helps!

If I drink it in the daytime will I be tired?

No. It won't make you tired, just quite relaxed.

Does this have kava in it? The ingredients doesn't list it?

Well it is called "Kava Stress Relief Tea" so yes. There is 78 mg of extract if you check the ingredients. Not enough for much effect but it calms me a bit.

Helpful but not very potent as directed

Kava is good stuff. It’s no where near as strong as a prescription drug but it does help with relaxation and in killing anxiety. There is a tribe somewhere, I forget where but they drink Kava all day, every day. Foreigners will visit them and try to keep up but it’s too much and they get sick. The villagers it seems get really intoxicated and pleasantly so… I double or quadrupole up while adding chamomile and valerian along with a little bit of green tea - it tastes bad but it helps take the edge off the anxiety. Yes, it works, you just have to find your dose. About the taste of this particular Kava tea it’s great without mixing in other teas like I do. Bring your water to just before boiling like I do or right after it starts to boil like most people do and then steep your bags, drink it. Kava seems pretty safe but if you’re on meds be sure to ask your doctor if Kava is right for you.

Kava Crushes Stress & Anxiety

I've been battling generalized anxiety and ptsd for the last five years after being in a life changing car accident. Was drugged up on benzos and other effects from big pharma for a years and nearly died from xanax withdrawl. Kava has been an absolute godsend. I feel in control and relaxed during my high pace/stressful work days and musical performances. The flavor is harsh, but the results are instantaneous & incredible. Do not mix with alcohol (super lethargic, negatively amplifies 'drunkness,' potentially adverse effect on liver) or caffeine (uncomfortably jittery, lightheaded). Recommend getting a liver enzyme blood test after 2 weeks of use to ensure it's not doing any liver harm (which has been documented in rare cases). I am so happy to have found this. My life has immensely changed for the better. Two bags steeped in a thermal travel container will get me comfortably through an 8 to 10 hour work day. I'm calm, engaged and back to my 'old self.'
