A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, 3rd Edition Review: Crucial Resource for those who want to understand the New Testament - There just is no comparison. I got by for a long time using the lexicon in the back of my UBS 4th edition or using the free lexicons included with Bibleworks. The fact is, words are funny things ... they have a range of meanings that a simple glossary cannot cover. BDAG provides a clear analysis of every word in the NT and the early Christian Fathers. Each word generally has a definition in bold type followed by a one word gloss for the word in bold italics. The formatting is very helpful for finding the verse you are looking for under the range of options. I use it all the time, and it helps my understanding of the New Testament tremendously. If I could change anything, I would do two things. First, I would have a brief explanation in the introduction showing how the entries in the dictionary work. Things are very heavily abbreviated and honestly, I still don't understand some of what I'm looking at. Thankfully that is all in regular print ... the bold print lets me find the things that are important for my purposes very quickly. The second thing is the Greek font used for the entries. I hate the phi and rho! Blech! Within the definitions themselves, the font is much more traditional and far more attractive. Finally, this is a lexicon. I highly recommend getting NIDNTTE (http://smile.desertcart.com/International-Dictionary-Testament-Theology-Exegesis/dp/0310276195/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436294212&sr=8-1&keywords=NIDNTTE) as an accompaniment. That will explain the theological significance attached to the words in question. Review: Useful and Detailed Greek and English Lexicon - This Greek and English lexicon is a valuable tool for studying the original language of the New Testament. It provides clear definitions and explanations, making it easier to understand Greek words and their meanings in context. Great for students, pastors, or anyone wanting to dig deeper into biblical Greek. Highly recommend for reliable and easy-to-use reference!

a must have for any serious student of the bible
this is without a doubt the most comprehensive and complete resource for biblical greek. it is absolutely necessary if you are going to study, or have studied, greek. the extensive notes and scholarship is a most helpful aid in translating. i would not even attempt to translate a text without having this reference book at my side. it can be a bit cumbersome and some of the abbreviations and such can be confusing, but regular use and reading the opening material (as well as having a good teacher) can help you understand what they mean. i know this is a short review, but this is not the type of book one reads and reflects on as one does with a novel or text book or even the bible. it is a reference book so it is meant to be used as a tool, and it is, in my opinion, the best and most useful tool of this kind. and don't be intimidated by greek, its fun (albeit not easy) and it will help open the bible to you in new and sometimes even amazing ways.

In the opinion of Dr Rob Plummer one of the BEST koine Greek lexicons!
LOVE IT!! Some wonderful missionary friends of mine who have taken Greek as well recommended the website dailydoseofgreek.com for continuing my personal study of New Testament (koine) Greek. There are so many free videos there and Dr. Plummer recommends this, BDAG, as one of the best lexicons out there. If this is your thing, grab it as soon as possible! The book I received was an excellent condition and met all my expectations!

Excellent Academic Resource
I have used other lexicons in the past, but BDAG has been the most academically robust lexicon to date. Easy to understand for those studying the Greek language, not really for someone just casually wanting to learn a few words here and there to better understand Scripture. This is an excellent resource for Seminary students and professors.

Protected Investment
The book was delivered in the anticipated time frame - which is always good business - but more importantly, the book itself was wrapped in protective plastic and then packaged for protection and minimal movement during shipment and delivery. For all books, but especially for those I would consider expensive and long term use investments, this was greatly appreciated.

awesome work...
Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature is a masterpiece for serious Bible students. It could be used by the regular student of the Bible as well as the one who is in Seminary. The only thing is that you need to know the Greek alphabets and know how to read basic greek. I use this dictionary quite often, during my studies. Iam not a seminary student, but do learn the Bible. In a couple of days I did a quick study of the basic greek alphabets, know how to read words and sentences in greek, (though I cant understand) and that's all you need to know to use this lexicon. For each word, it gives the different meanings according to the context in which it is used. I believe each and every word in the Bible has depth, when used in context. This definitely is an awesome tool for the serious learner of the Word of God. God bless.

J’utilise la version avant depuis 1977 et c’était excellent. Version (edition) 3 est meillure : 1. Elle utilise une plus grande sélection de source-textes ; 2. La présentation est plus claire – plus lisible ; 3. Même le papier, le couleur et la fonte est plus acceptable aux yeux. Mais, il conserve le même mise en page comme son prédécesseur. Avertissement : on a besoin de parler le bien anglais pour utiliser ce dictionnaire. It really is good and gets good reviews generally by scholars. I guess there are better lexicons out there (such as the full Liddell & Scott, maybe) but you'd pay a premium for them. If you are going to do serious study of the New Testament, you need more than something that simply gives a meaning. This will provide an insight to nuances of use and a degree of the spread of meaning over time and types of litterature. Highly recommended.

I have many Greek dictionaries and lexicons but this one, BDAG as it is affectionately known, is different and more valuable for several reasons. First, it is different from other NT Greek lexicons by covering much more than the NT - it also covers the Septuagint and a large amount of 1st century Koine Greek literature. This is invaluable in the numerous places where a word only occurs once in the NT so its meaning cannot be determined from the NT alone- its meaning, and more importantly it range of meanings can be shown from the survey of occurrences in other sources. Second, of the available NT lexicons, BDAG is probably the most respected dictionary because of its wide survey of much literature outside of the NT. In short, it is often regarded as the "last word" in Greek meanings. Each word entry has not just a definition but a whole article about its meanings and usages and how this varies in some contexts and word associations. This lexicon is indispensable for NT serious scholars.

In the age where "the Bible must be interpreted only with the Bible" this is invaluable resource to enrich your understanding and to start digging in the way of solid theology.
