Hohner Kids / Glockenspiel (Xylophone) with Songbook

I was disappointed when I received this because I was expecting a Hohner product and what I received was Sonor. After a little research I discovered Sonor had been acquired by Hohner. The product is stamped Made in Germany and, with the exception of the mallets, has proven to be a high quality, durable and entertaining toy for our 1 and 3 year old.I would have rated 5 stars except that both mallets broke within the first few uses. We are currently using Hape drum sticks which have proven to be much more durable.The glockenspiel is appropriately tuned, I love that it is more than one octave, and it has a softer, pleasant sound compared to those made by most toy manufacturers.It is much smaller than I expected, but the kids are really drawn to it and play with it nearly every day. It’s well worth the price tag, especially given that so many on the market aren’t tuned correctly!!!

GREAT! Until now 4 years later and BITS OF ENAMEL FLAKING OFF EVERYWHERE.Some enamel came off a couple years ago with harsh toddler treatment. That's not their fault.BUT today I looked closely and found lots more places where enamel is coming off - and this is with normal lightweight treatment. I only hope the enamel is totally lead-free and safe!!

My wife and I are both serious musicians. We were aghast at the lack of pitch fidelity of a Fisher Price glockenspiel that we were given as a gift for our young daughter, so quickly bought this one in its stead based off of the reviews stating that it's actually in tune.Well, it's not quite perfect, but it's good enough. The other one was probably 50 cents off on some notes if not more, while this one is close enough to not be painful--perhaps no more than 10 cents off at worst? These instruments don't register well with my tuner, for better or worse.The only unexpected thing is having an octave with the tonic as the bottom note plus a fourth on the top end. We had expected it to be an octave on the top end going down to the dominant on the low end. Not a huge deal, this.

Low C (lowest note) was sharp by nearly half a step. Have contacted Hohner, no reply. It is really hard to listen to my child play this instrument, as it sounds really bad. If someone at Hohner is reading this - please reply to my contacts! I just need the low key replaced - I will update my review to 5 stars! It's a great instrument, all except for that one note.

This is a MUST BUY for young children. I bought this as a gift for my two year old niece for her birthday and she LOVES it. This Xylophone is well made and the quality is above what is expected for its price. The different colors on the keys are also a great way to teach young children their colors. What I most love about this product is that it's fun for adults to play with as well. For those who want to introduce music to their young loved ones, what better way to do so than with this product? HOWEVER, sometimes it may become a nuisance because the child may become attached to this instrument and may want to play with it non stop. So, it can also make a revenge gift if you have something against the child's parents =P

Wanted to introduce my granddaughter to Music so I got her this Glockenspiel. She's got a Music class in preschool and Ithought this would add a little more hands-on approach. She'll be 3 years old in 4 months and this instrument is madefor kids 3 and above, so it should be a great fit. Besides being impressed with the quality of this instrument, I'm glad itcame with a songbook with songs that they may recognize. All in all, I'm very happy with this product.

Actually in tune! A lovely musical instruments for kids, I seem to remember it is C major, C being the green note, D brown, E red etc, given as a present. Shame the box was open, maybe this was customs, however it was nice to be able try it out before giving it to my nephew, lots of fun!

If you can, spring for this model as the clarity of sound is not dull like many other models. There is a little music sheet for kids to practice songs. Our 4 year old absolutely loves playing it.

It's robust and has a handy storage place for the beaters. Some instruments have only an octave, whereas this has 11 notes, making it possible to play a greater range of tunes. Most of all, it has a beautiful tone which my 2 1/2 year-old granddaughter loves. There's nothing at all tinny about the sound.It's called a glockenspiel, by the way, NEVER a xylophone (the word glockenspiel means 'bell play' and xylophone comes from the Greek word for wood, both of which meanings give the clue to which instrument is described); a common misconception.

I had bought a few glockenspiels and had some bad luck with lots of nasty, cheap, Chinese-made ones, badly tuned, poor sounding. This one is exceptional, it has a lovely tone, huge sustain, and even comes with a music leaflet so you can learn to play twinkle twinkle and row row row your boat straight away!Don't waste your time on cheap ones, these guys make proper musical instruments and this is just a mini child-friendly version! I am very happy we bought this.

I purchased this as a Christmas present for my daughter (who turned 1 just after Christmas) and I can safely say it is one of the best buys I have ever made for her... It was the first present she opened on Christmas Day and the only thing she wanted to play with!Beautifully tuned and very well made, I have no doubt that this will give us many years of happy music making. Thank you.

A very sturdy well made children's instrument. Most things I bought for my children are plastic toys from China. I don't expect them to last very long. This is extremely well made. I wouldn't be surprised if their kids played with it. Lovely sound of it to.

Brilliant instrument. It arrived quickly. Five stars so far.However, the box it came in was ripped all down the back, as if someone had tried to get into the box and not had the patience to open it carefully. It looks like a dog's breakfast. Not great, as it was meant to be a present and now there is no time to return it for an undamaged one.
