Lucifer Omnibus Vol. 1 (The Sandman Universe Classics) Review: Sublime - I'm a late arrival to Gaiman's _Sandman_ series as well as Carey's _Lucifer_. But what a treat to experience the work for the first time. Carey's stories are clever and complicated - events, characters and details from one story tie together with another and these in turn are part of the larger narrative - it is simply masterful. The artwork is likewise stunning: the level of detail, the watercolor plates at the beginning of each chapter and the way in which the visuals are as important to the telling of the story as the script make it easy to understand why these graphic novels have such a strong and passionate following. The quality of the paper and the details like character design, sketches and layouts which are included at the end of what is a massive collection (weighing in at almost 3 kilos its a monster) make this collection a must-have for fans of the series. Highly recommend. Review: A Great Way to Read the First Half of DC/Vertigo’s “Lucifer”! - “Lucifer Omnibus, Volume One” collects “Lucifer: The Morningstar Option” #1-3, “Lucifer” #1-35, and “Lucifer: Nirvana” #1, written by Mike Carey with pencils by Peter Gross, Dean Ormston, Scott Hampton, Ryan Kelly, Chris Weston, Jon J. Muth, Craig Hamilton, and Warren Pleece, inks by Ryan Kelly, Dean Ormston, Peter Gross, Scott Hampton, James Hodgkins, Jon J. Muth, Craig Hamilton, and Chris Weston, colors by Daniel Vozzo, Scott Hampton, John J. Muth, and Marguerite Van Cook, letters by ComiCraft, Ellie De Ville, Todd Klein, and Fiona Stephenson, with a foreword from Neil Gaiman and introduction by Mike Carey. The stories pick up following the events of “The Sandman: Season of Mists,” with Lucifer and Mazikeen of the Lilim having quit Hell and set themselves up at Lux in Los Angeles. Throughout the stories collected in this volume, Lucifer runs an errand for Heaven to defeat ancient, shapeless gods. In doing so, he receives a letter of passage beyond creation. He seeks out knowledge from various other deities and spirits, learning how to use the letter as a gateway, though he incurs the wrath of the Basanos – a sentient tarot card created by the angel Meleos and imbued with Destiny’s powers – as well as one of the gods of Japan. He seeks further aid from Elaine Belloc, the daughter of the angel Michael, through him Lucifer can gain the power of creation. Meanwhile, Mazikeen rallies the Lilim, further alienating demons from Lucifer. While Mike Carey connects many of the stories, there are several distinct storyarcs collected within this volume. The longest is a reverse “Divine Comedy,” beginning with Paradiso in which Lucifer is challenged for rule of his cosmos. In Purgatorio, he must face Death of the Endless, while he duels Amenadiel in Hell in Inferno. Carey carefully lays the groundwork for these stories well in advance and offers a dénouement of sorts in the final issues of the first “Lucifer Omnibus” volume. The sheer size of this volume makes it somewhat ungainly, though it is a great way to collect a large chunk of DC/Vertigo’s “Lucifer” stories in a single book. The construction is high-quality, too, with a strong binding to support the weight of the heavy pages. A great introduction for those looking to read the comics after watching Fox/Netflix’s “Lucifer” television series or for those looking to collect the first half of the first volume of “Lucifer.”

Carey is amazing!
Absolutely phenomenal! Buy it! Buy it! Buy it! The art is gorgeous and Mike Carey does an excellent job creating a universe that draws you in. This is comics at their best! Theres careful attention to detail throughout and the stories are very thought provoking. You don't have to be religious to read it, but theres a high chance youll be interested in biblical stories afterwards. I can't stress enough how great Carey is. He is in my opinion one of the most underrated and underappreciated writers ever. If you're looking for more work by Carey check out his run on Hellblazer John Constantine! Volume 2 omnibus for Lucifer cant come fast enough!

A wild ride worth repeat journeys.
I first read Lucifer, then Sandman, years ago. I had always enjoyed the imaginative interactions between various figures of religions and mythologies (see also: American Gods), and took a bit of a shine to its refreshingly complex nominal protagonist. The individual volumes being a notorious beast to find, an omnibus worthy of most shelves (I admit the Sandman omnibus is a bit classier a binding) was a welcome opportunity to revisit or share at will. Print quality is excellent; be wary of its heft; and I'd recommend sitting the book jacket down somewhere else if you're going to handle the volume frequently. Please note: if you're considering the omnibus you probably already know this, but...the graphic novels have virtually nothing to do with the travesty of a similarly named show on Fox. The story here is nearly* devoid of sex and other vices or cartoonish notions of good or evil, but rich in ambiguity, examples of allowing people to believe what they want, using language quite precisely, and respecting the traditions of others while still traveling one's own path. 13/10.

If you loved Sandman, this is a wonderful series
Great volume though it is large and not very portable. Beautiful pages and text. Well worth picking up and enjoying.

Thick paper and vivid colors make this fan happy!
This collection of the Lucifer graphic novels is a beautifully made book. The pages are thick and the full color illustrations are vivid. The collection goes from The Sandman Presents Lucifer : The Morningstar Option (#1, 2 and 3)) as well as the independent Lucifer series from A Six Card Spread (#1) to Come to Judgement: Chaptert II ( #35). Bonuses include Nirvana and a more than 50 page section on the Making of Lucifer which includes character designs and sketches, original layouts, cover process artwork and the script for Lucifer #1 by Mike Carey. My only criticism would be that my copy arrived in cling wrap with wavy pages from the get go. I am not collector and plan to read this book often but it was disappointing. Also, the book does not have a lay flat spine so it is difficult to read some of the inner sections in the middle of the book

Grande prodotto da assaporare con calma. La storia non è semplice ma affascinante e, unita ai favolosi disegni, mi riporta ad un periodo (ho gli albetti originali) quando c'era magia nella lettura.

Stunningly creative and unpredictable long story form narrative, superbly well written by Mike Carey. Aside from its compelling narrative, the artwork, mostly by Peter Gross and Ryan Kelly, is consistently fantastic and exciting. Highly recommended for fans of Gaiman's "The Sandman". 10/10

This is is not the tipical comic that you can read in your bed, both for the story, that its amazing and deeply interesting, but for the size of the book itself. It may seem expensive but it really worth it and in the end is chepaer that buy the differents numbers and in a high end format.
