What happens if I don’t change or replace my engine air filter?

A dirty or worn-out engine air filter can lead to reduced engine power, decreased fuel efficiency, sluggish acceleration and unusual engine sounds.

What do engine air filters do?

Engine air filters help supply clean and unrestricted airflow to the engine while trapping harmful contaminants, which helps protect your engine and keep it running efficiently.

Does a dirty engine air filter affect gas mileage?

Yes, a dirty or clogged engine air filter can negatively affect gas mileage. However, in most modern fuel-injected vehicles, the impact is minimal due to the engine’s computer adjusting fuel delivery automatically.

How do I replace my engine air filter?

Check your vehicle Owner’s Manual for guidance specific to your vehicle. Typically, to change an engine air filter, open the hood, find the air filter box, open the box and remove the old filter, then install the new filter and close the box.

Can a clogged engine air filter damage the engine?

The engine air filter helps keep clean air flowing to the engine. Without it working properly, airflow can become restricted and increase strain on the engine, causing additional wear on engine components.
