Kizlyar KK0077 Survivalist D2 Russian Made Titanium Tactical Knife, Black

Even though I wasn't the knife I thought I was buying its still very cool and high quality. It is d2 so I'm keeping it. Very sharp out of the box and I love the survival kit in the handle. Sheath is nice. Feels solid. I'll replace the cordage with survival cord and maybe rework the survival kit. Over all great knife just not what's pictured.

Awesome surprise For my son's birthday.

I bought mine from another site just because the cost was a little lower, however now that I have the knife I can say that its price is on the high side no matter where you buy from if its over $150. Just for background I am comparing this to other blades I own such as TOPS, BUCK, GERBER, COLD STEEL, and KA BAR.This is my first Kizlyar knife and I had been weighing this purchase for about 18 months trying to find as much on the "internet" as I could. The videos I found at least showed it being put through some pretty harsh treatment and convinced me to risk the $200+.My out of the box reaction was reminiscent of being 11yrs old when Rambo First Blood came out and everybody wanted that hollow handle knife, but we all soon learned that those knives had a failure point. This particular knifes tang goes approx. 2" into the handle which if your looking at the image that is about the second ring from the bottom on the handle grip. I have seen in videos and my own personal time batoning and chopping with it seems to hold up, but it is a point of weakness IMO.I was surprised at how light it was and if your looking for a knife with some heft to it for chopping then this probably isn't the knife for you. I like to be able clever small branches with a single blow, and this just isn't a Tom Brown Tracker TBT1. Removing material on both sides for a "blood groove" was not necessary and might have made the difference for me as far a heft goes. For some of you a comparison you might relate to is that it has about the same feel in hand as the Cold Steel Bushman Bowie. It was a completely unexpected feel to me. Of course its not all bad it does have great balance to it and IMO might make a great fighting knife for someone.It does have some fit and finish issues, the first one being it was not hair pooping sharp out of the box, but something that was easily corrected with a few passes on the Work Sharp. Another was the "blood groove" I mean if you're going to put one on the blade then make sure you do it with care. I know in production things get missed, but this is something I picked up on right out of the box. I gives the impression of shoddy work and IMO attention to detail was overlooked in this area. However they cut the groove it must have been chattering in the fixture. Again this is just my opinion but, being married to a woman who works in the machining industry and a family with over 40yrs in the business its like fingers on a chalk board when I see stuff like this.The knurled handle is a bit slippery and that is only because the knurling is too shallow. This is something that I will have to correct and I don't recommend chopping without a lanyard. I'd also like to see the gimping be a little more aggressive. I know its tough with gimping to find the fine line between being comfortable and still being effective. This is more comfort, but still nice to have.The sheath is effective, but still along the lines of something you would expect with an MTECH knife. I also purchased the accessory pouch for the sheath which I like because it fits an Altoids tin perfectly. It does come with a little survival kit in the handle which has a band aid, snare wire, 2 needles with white cotton thread, 3 fishing hooks with line and sinkers, three matches with striker, and a safety pin all in a plastic tube.Now the top edge that many say is a second edge for chopping I didn't find very effective for that however, it is awesome for using on a fire steel!I think this is going to be a fun knife, but I think folks should know what they are spending there hard earned money on. My biggest reason for the 3 stars is the cost and fit and finish.
