My son who is six had been begging me for a little journal so I let him look and choose between a couple different ones and he chose this one. It was an awesome buy! It looks cool, and the 3-D looking image makes it look like the lock and stuff is literally real.

I used this as a reward for good behavior. The child was a boy who asked for a diary with a key. He picked this style out of several different choices. 8-9 years old

This is really small, and not impressive looking. The covers are flimsey. I didn't expect anything from the lock, because it is an inexpensive child's diary, but I did think it would be more than 1/2 inch thick, and that it would have a sturdy cover. The "girly" ones I got, sold on Amazon by a company called "Getting Fit" for about the same price, are much nicer.
