Got it much quicker than estimated, would order from the same person again! No damage to the book even, looks like it was lightly read and only had very very light wear on some corners. Beautiful! And a very attractive cover as well... I was very happy when I found out this was required for my class :) Shallow, but I already was a fan of the cover's artist.

Truly enlightening on Japanese popular culture. I highly recommend if you are interested in learning more about and a deeper understanding of Japanese culture.

Far, far, far too dry and academic. This iss, in all senses sof the word, a live subject and they don't do it justice

These papers offer an interesting description of various aspects of Japanese life through family, school, work, religion, politics, literature, music, housing, food, sports etc. The descriptive narrative informs but doesn’t greatly enlighten. Papers on discrimination against Buraku culture, and the cult of manga and anime, begin to explore more unique aspects of Japanese culture. But the overall result is a disappointingly bland treatment of a fascinating subject.The roots of Japanese mentality, attitude and behaviour are not examined. The historical juxtaposition of delicacy with atrocity, of respect for age with adherence to reason, of a high code of honour with currently shameful, or formerly horrific suicidal consequences, of compliance to the point of mute obedience and emperor worship, of unassuaged offence to other ethnic nations – all these are fascinating elements of the recent history of Japanese culture. This collection fails to address these issues.

wow, what can I say. I have to admit i have been a fan of Japan for along time, so seeing this book it was a must for me. the in-depthness of the culture, the origins & history of the language is intreging, it's a must for people wanting to know more about japan past, presant and the futre.Enjoyable Reading

das buch ist sehr interessant und hilft mir sehr bei einigen aufgaben in meinem Studium.anfangs brauchte ich nur ein Kspitel aber der rest ist mehr als nur interessant.

外国から見た日本について知ることができるので、日本人こそこの本を読むべきだと思います。英語の勉強にもなります。

英語で日本の文化が書かれている最適な本がなかったので、出版日が一番新しかったこの本を購入しました。日本文化を把握することはできますが、全体的にデータが古く（4-5年前）、かつ大学講義用の本なので結構英語が難しいです。ですが、販売されている本のなかでは（古いながらもデータも豊富で）日本文化全体を把握したい外国人にはいいとおもいます。（ですが読むのに根気がいります）
