Great cleanser!
Great cleanser and moisturizer. The smell is similar to an ash smell (just like in Jamaican castor oil) and it does NOT STAY ON THE SKIN AFTER WASHING. It leaves the body feeling supple and is WONDERFUL foaming/soaping on a towel or sponge. I will definitely buy again as this is a great value for the money spent. It can last a long while if you use a soap dish that does not collect water. However it won’t last me long because I’m obbessed! lol..

Definitely the real deal!
This is the real Marius Fabre Marseilles soap! Exactly the same as what I bought from the Marius Fabre flagship store in Paris! I’m so happy to be able to get it from this seller for a very reasonable price. You either have to love this soap or you don't. I personally love it for what it does for my skin. I used to have very dry skin and my upper arms had those little chicken skin bumps. All that went away after using this soap. Like most people I don't really love the smell of the soap (yes it does smell like burnt ashes) but I tolerate it for that fact that it's all natural and for its many other beneficial qualities.

One of 4 brands that make Marseille the original way
I usually use Fer a Coeval brand and thought I would try this. FAC is 100% olive oil and this is 72. The bar is huge and would be a real ouchie if it dropped on your foot in the shower. Otherwise it would stay put in a soap dish. I am unable to describe the difference between the 2, except this has a more pronounced diesel like smell than the FAC. That smell goes away after use. The soap leaves the natural wax waterproofing on you skin that your body makes. Other soaps rip this protective layer off with chemicals and lye. If you really want to smell "nice" after a shower, go ahead and spray yourself with chemicals or use a natural perfume or oil. It is ridiculous to think of adding oil to soap because the soap removes oil. Anyway, a nice gift idea and fun to use.

Good Soap
The first one purchased lasted 3 1/2 months as a daily use hand soap. I like that my hands don't get dried out. I like the smell (ashy olives). The block is fun to use; took a little navigating at first due to the size but gets easier as it reduces. I keep an extra out as a decoration, as the vintage box goes well in my vintage home. Would recommend. Will purchase again.

Makes my skin soft and smooth
I have so many skin allergies it's not even funny. Among the major things I have to avoid in skincare products are propylene glycol and any sort of fragrances (especially "natural" fragrances derived from plants and essential oils). Purchasing basic soap and shampoo has really become a trial. So, despite the reviews about the scent, I decided to give this soap a try. After all, if it's been around as long as it has, it can't be all bad, right?I do find the scent of the actual bar to be slightly off-putting. But it is not nearly as bad as has been described. It doesn't have added perfumes to mask a natural scent, so I think it's just not recognizable to people and that may make it seem worse than it is. It definitely isn't a standard soap scent. But it doesn't even matter because when I use the product, it doesn't leave any scent on my skin. What it does do is leave my skin feeling very soft. I mean, it's made with olive oil, so it is just naturally going to be moisturizing. And I could feel the results after just the first use! But a benefit I hadn't expected was just how well this natural soap works with my body chemistry to actually cut down on natural body odors. This is huge! Without overly sharing, let me just say that those especially sweaty parts of my body where skin meets skin (arm pits, under breasts, thigh joints, etc.) are still sweaty but not odiferous, at the end of a long day.The huge cube is a bit unwieldy at first, but I've gotten used to it. Next time, I might try slicing the bar into more manageable pieces before using it. But I will definitely order this again.I also tried using this on my hair. It made my hair squeaky clean, but stripped it of its natural oils. Since I don't wash my hair everyday, this isn't too problematic, but I'll only use it in my hair on occasion and stick with my DHS shampoo and conditioner for now.

Kinda messy, but ideal for sensitive skin!
Yes, it makes a mess. Yes, small children will poke holes in it. Yes, you will need to cut a drain channel in it.But... if you're allergic to coconut or palm oil - this is the hand soap for you! And, your toddler niece will really adore poking gloopy holes in it.

This soap smells like burnt tire...
I wanted to use a true savon de Marseille to bathe my kids and this smells nothing like the soap I used when I was little growing up in France. It smells like tire/warm asphalt and the smell stays on your skin after you use it. It is not at all what I expected and I am not sure what to do with it. Even for laundry or cleaning, I do not want my house to smell like that. If anyone has a trick to make it less smelly please send them my way. I am so sad, I had high hopes seeing the composition of the product.
