Gammon Percussion 5-Piece Kids Drum Set, Complete Junior Drum Kit with Cymbals, Hardware, Sticks, & Throne - Blue

I spent close to a month mulling over a myriad of choices before settling on the Gammon Percussion 5-Pieces Junior Drum Set complete package. I had two conflicting goals going into this purchase: I wanted a decent-quality kit that would last a while, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. After assembling this kit, I feel both of my goals have been satisfied. Last summer I set up a portion of my drum set to see if my then 3.5 y/o son would be interested in it. He was initially, but after about a week, the drums fell silent and were eventually packed away from whence they came. In early February this year, he began asking about my drums on an almost daily basis. I set the kit up again, and he played it for a few minutes before moving on to something else. It occurred to me that my kit setup was maybe too big for him, and since he couldn't sit at it and play it like Daddy did, it didn't hold his interest. Perhaps a kid-sized/junior drum set would be more appealing. My hunch was correct, and my son took to his 'me-size' kit like a duck takes to water. He loves it, and has been playing it quite a bit. This drum set includes 5 drums (bass/kick drum, two mounted toms, a floor tom, and a snare drum), one cymbal, a pair of hi-hat cymbals, a pair of junior-sized drumsticks, a drum throne/stool, and all the necessary hardware to mount and use everything. The drums themselves and hardware are solidly designed, and the materials are finished nicely. At this time, I am confident my son will outgrow this kit before these items catastrophically fail. The cymbals are somewhat flimsy, and the hi-hat cymbals seem like they might bend easily if leaned on hard enough, but they should have no troubles holding up to 'normal' drumming use. Overall, the quality of this kit has exceeded my expectations. Assembly notes - The drum set arrived in a single box and was completely disassembled. Included in the package was a two-sided sheet that outlined the basic setup procedure with simple statements and pictures. Be advised that there are different length tension rods (screw/bolt thingie that secures the rim and head to the drum shell) for each drum, so sort them according to size before you begin putting things together. After sorting the tension rods, I checked to see that all would thread nicely into the lugs (they did). Upon assembly of the toms, I had a few tension rods that didn't want to thread into lugs. Applying some outward pressure on the rim so as to move the head of the tension rod away from the shell allowed the threads to align and get started. That was the only minor snag I encountered during the assembly. Final notes/thoughts - Our son is very happy with the kit. I added a personal touch by combining his name with one of his favorite toys and artistically applying it like a band name on the front head (I used the blank, non-logo head for the front) of the kick drum (i.e. Eric and the Fiefighter Guys). To say I'm happy with the kit is a slight understatement. I think it is really cool, and a ton of fun! It is only a matter of time before the heads get upgraded, and we start laying down some wicked tracks! Ru-ta-ba-ga flex-i-bil-i-ty da!

I was very concerned and skeptical, but I can't believe how cool this little kit really is. I would say most of the stuff folks said here is true. Knowing what to expect is helpful too. I had very low expectations. I would never makes the comparison to an adult kit. I hope the guy with the video figured out he needed to tighten the leg saddle hardware from the inside of the drums before installing the heads. I snugged up all the lug units too. That's what it took for our kit, just a few tweaks, but adding lock washer is wise on any persistently loose ones. The snare stand likes to move about too, but that was just a case of tightening the nut with a bit more oomph and a pliers. The snare took a few tweaks, the spring in there needed to be spread out. It will never have that nice crack, but think, a real snare drum is several hundred bucks at least. I have been teaching my young percussionist to hit light in preparing for this and I have to say these are surprisingly not as loud as I expected. I also threw an old pillow in the kick, and that sounds nice now too. The kick pedal, and the hi hat stand are definitely crap. I had to replace the spring. FYI a thick broccoli band was a godsend on X mas morning while under the gun. Lighter springs are available in the door hardware section of Home Depot. My little three year old can play that kick drum but the spring made it too stiff for her to depress, it also did not recoil the way it should, thus the new spring. The cymbals are also junk, already have a dent in one. Dad's going to eventually replace those hopefully with some CL turks, if I'm lucky. Sure would have been nice to have a real ride cymbal, thats what it is really missing. I recommend sparing ones sanity preemptively and watching a tuning video on you tube. Its not hard, and will teach you to stretch the heads and tune away annoying ringing or at least get them to sound musical. Those tones are the things that would make me loose it. I'm no expert, but as a guitar player, I could hear when they sounded assonant vs. dissonant and loping. Now, she just sounds like budding artist practicing a jazz solo on a tight kit. Also a great investment are the gummy window gels kids stick to the windows. Exactly the same as the blue gels they sell to dampen undertones on the heads, but the kids will love to decorate the heads in this case with santas and mistletoe. Just those alone eliminate a good portion of the pain for parents. Little tip, they work on the resonant (bottom) heads too. Thats where most of the nasty tones come from anyway. Overall, we are very happy. By comparison, I was in a local store that was selling half the kit with half the goodies for about the same price. I prefer to buy local yet this was a great deal, but if she's not laying down a rock solid 4/4 by March, they're going on CL.... Just kidding. Main thing to remember is like any instrument, it tases a few tweaks to get it playing and sounding right. I have never bought a guitar that didn't need the nut shaved or saddles adjusted, etc, before it played and sounded right, drums are no exception. Put in the time to learn about it and make the adjustments and the experience is enhanced tenfold.

Excellent Real Drum Set- This is a great junior sized drum set and a fantastic deal for the price. I purchased a full sized Gammon drum set for myself a while back and was pleasantly surprized as to how good it was for the cash. When it came time to buy a junior set for my nephew, I decided to go with a Gammon again. The best parts of this drum kit are the quality, the looks, and the overall coolness factor. I am in a band and even my snobby drummer, who is pretty picky, was impressed. This set is not a toy like you may see in some stores. This is a REAL drum set that someone can actually learn to play on. Basically this is a real drum set but smaller and when you get it all set up, it looks really cool. Everthing on the set arrived in good shape, all of the parts were included and it was relatively easy to set up. The fact that it has a real hi-hat stand and floor tom makes it just like an adult size set in the way you play it. Like any set I looked at, it only comes with one pair of drumsticks, so you might want to buy an extra couple pairs for down the road. I can highly recommend this drum set to anyone looking to get something for a young drummer. This was defineatly the best gift my nephew ever received which makes me the coolest uncle on the planet!

I got these as a gift for my 8yr old daughter. Perfect size as she doesn't have to struggle to reach both of the pedals. While I am not a drummer, I can recognize good build quality when I see it and these are good quality. The drums sound nice and I had a drummer friend of mine check them out and he said he was impressed with the quality and sound at this price range. The only exception is the High-Hat and the symbal which are very tinny sounding but to be honest they are fine for a beginner. The instructions are useless but they do point you to an online video of how to assemble, using the video they went together very easily and everthing lined up and fit precisely. I had seen some mixed reviews and it seemd like this set had been improved just over a yr ago. I decide to take the risk and I am very happy that I did. My daughter loves them and has used them every day.

I bought these for my 4 year old to see if he would enjoy drums. I debated spending tons of money on a real nice expensive drum set, and I am glad I didnt. These are perfect for the case. The instructions are clear and easy to assemble all pieces. There are also videos that the instructions tell you to watch that explain everything perfectly on how to set these up. I am a musician myself so I already knew how to set this up, but I followed the instructions for the purpose of this review, and I am happy to report that you can easily follow them and be successful in setting up these drums. These aren't top brand, but they fit the bill and actually sound pretty decent. The snare isnt all to great, but it sounds good enough for a 4 year old. The symbols are some what of a joke, the high hat being a little better than the regular crash in sound quality, and should be replaced if needed... but if not, they will suffice. The hardware is just fine, but the only problem I have found is that you have to super tighten everything on the tom and snare mounts, and even so, they still can move fairly easy. As for me, I can drum on these with no problems without movement because I know how to play, but as for my 4 year old son, he bangs the crap out of these things and I constantly find myself going into his room and readjusting the drums back into place. But overall I am happy with this purchase.

Great junior starter drum set! Delivered in time for Christmas! Took some time to put it together but my husband did a great job & grandchild loves it!

Let me start this by saying, I am a lifelong drummer. Now, I wasn't sure what to expect with a complete drum set at this price point, but I can say, I am VERY pleased! The construction/finish of the drums is solid. The cymbals aren't bad, the hardware is more than stout enough for a small player to beat on, the heads aren't bad (although I expect I will be replacing them soon with some Remos or the like), and the rest of the included items are more than acceptable for my 3yo to use. I have not tuned them up yet, but expect they will sound quite good as the mounted toms arrived basically tuned and they sound very good! Is it worth the $$? So far, I'd say yes! If you have an aspiring drummer in your house that you want to spoil, or a Daughter/Son-in-law that you don't really like, go ahead and get this gem...the kids will.love it!! Me personally, I CANNOT wait to see my 3yo's face when he sees it!
