Q: can't figure out the hat sizes......I require an '8'?

I do not recommend buying this hat if you are looking for a quality piece. It looks nice but, the inside is made with a piece of elastic for the headband. It’s a one size fits all product. I sent mine back.

Q: Can this hat be shaped by wire or steam?

I'm sure steam will work. I put a pencil roll on the edge of the brim and relaxed the top indents after soaking the hat in water.

Q: where is this hat made?

The hat is a product from 'south of the border'; Made in Mexico. I've had mine for several months & I can tell you it's made well. The only flaw I've found & I just corrected it today - is the hat is missing a 'chin cord'. In fair weather the hat stays on just fine. But, the slightest breeze or bending over while wearing it gardening - off it comes. But, my 'low cost' quickly installed cord has turned this into a keeper!

I won’t wear it when it’s raining. I bought hat strictly outdoors under the sun. I’ve spent a couple hours working with it on, it’s held up good. When I’ve been in the hay fields, I wear a different hat. You might want to check out the Gladstone, there’s a positive review from a person who’s it for work. I plan to purchase one because it appears to be a tougher hat. I love this style of hat.
