Is this sanitary to apply to a wound and then use again later...or on other people's wounds? Seems strange.

I let it drip onto the wound without making contact as to not contaminate the brush.

I would use it on a shallow cut..

No. Ointment is petroleum based. it wouldn't stick to your skin .
