Chart said large fits 56-60" and it was fine on my 55" skinny son. So the medium would probably work for your child

Q: My son is 48 inches tall. What size would fit him?

I would say a small. I got a medium for my son, who is about 45" tall, and it is very large on him. He was still able to wear it for Halloween, but it was very long, especially in the sleeves, and he didn't like wearing it. The medium fit my daughter better, who is about 55" tall.
