Works great - the perfect trimmer
This device is the best trimmer/clipper for body hair that I have ever owned. First, it's worth discussing the bottom of the device - the "traditional" trimmer or clipper part. It is unexceptional, and works fine. You can shorten hair with it. It has a nice captive adjustable plastic guard you can set the length with. Most trimmers only offer this functionality. However, with most trimmers/clippers, if you want a very close trim or near-shave, you will need to remove the plastic guards, and that's when you start being able to cut yourself. I can't tell you how many times I've nicked part of my body with a host of other products. I've never cut myself with the Philips Bodygroom system. And that's because of the other side - the top. The top of the device is a rotating head, with two short trimmers and an electric shaver foil in-between them. The trimmers on top are small, don't stick out far, and are not really designed to do an amazing job cutting all your hair off. What they do is trim very effectively, without almost any possibility of cutting yourself. This means you can just wave this thing all over your body, in many lazy passes, without having to worry about nicking or hurting yourself. If it takes many passes sometimes - who cares! It's fast, easy, and safe. Once you've trimmer hair, you use the foil in the middle to get a close shave, optionally. The foil requires a slower hand, and requires you to hold the body groom perpendicular to your hair, and move it more deliberately. In other words, tilt this thing back and forth over your body, lop off all the hair, and then shave, slowly, holding it perpendicular. That's the best way to use it. Also, the trimmers are less effective when your hair is wet. Since they're a bit sloppy and tend to miss things, you want your hairs dry and "perky" so the trimmers will lop them right off. Remember, the tradeoff is to be forced to make a couple passes - what you gain is a complete assurance that you won't cut yourself. The foil shaver, however, works best while wet - like anything you need to make a close shave with. What I like to do is trim all my body, quickly, a couple times while standing in the shower, then turn on the water, take a shower, and slowly use the foil to shave. It's incredibly easy, incredibly fast, and works perfectly. And the bodygroom is waterproof, so you can just leave it in the bathroom or shower and charge it every a week or two. I strongly recommend the bodygroom.

I'm a guy who doesn't like shaving my "nether" regions
Ordered this under my wife's acct name, but I assure you I'm a guy who has been using this thing. So let me set the back story a little bit leading up to this purchase. I'm a guy who doesn't like shaving my "nether" regions, but I'm married to a woman who wants my "nether" regions shaved. I had been using a really basic trimmer to get the job done... you know one of those cheapo pharmacy neck/beard trimmers. Well, I only ever ended up shaving down there about 2 - 3 times a year max, much to my wife's disappointment. There were many reasons I chose to shave down there as little as possible. First and foremost, I liked to call the times I would shave "There Will Be Blood", after the popular movie. No matter what, I would end up nicking myself somewhere in a region where you particularly don't ever want to see blood, this was terrifying. In fact, I typically tended to NOT use the trimmers on my scrotum and just try to cut those uglies with a pair of scissors. This took a long time and didn't really eliminate the hairs, just made them a tad shorter. The taint never really ended up hairless either. Another problem with the old trimmers is that they would get incredibly hot and the metal would burn my skin. I guess to look on the bright side, now I could cauterize the open wounds the trimmers had originally caused. Needless to say it was all a horrible experience and I ended up having hair more often and in more places than my wife wished. My brother, whom I assumed was having the same types of problems, did quite a bit of searching and reviewing for a good body hair trimmer. He ended up finding this product and decided to purchase it. Fast forward 3 months. I asked my brother how his new body trimmer had been working and he said it was great... no nicks, no problems, no hairs (yes he showed me, and I have to say it was quite handsome). So I straightway purchased this amazing device on Amazon and have been very pleased. I was able to shave my entire "nether" regions with ease. I'll have to admit I was very cautious and scared to shave my scrotum (I'd never properly done it before without problems), but I was able to glide over those bad boys with ease, no pain, no nicks, no hair! Also, the trimmer did not heat up after extended use, so it was comfortable on my skin the entire time. I felt like a new man. I'm happy and most importantly the wife is too!

Great product and does what it says
After using the Panasonic ER224s for years, I wanted a new one that could be used in or out of the shower. After looking for a trimmer to shave my chest and lower region in the shower, I came across the Philips BG-2040 and Remington BHT-650. Before I buy any product, I like to see it up front and feel it in my hands so I know what Im getting. I went to my local stores (Best Buy, Target, Walmart, BedBathAndBeyond) and they all had the Philips BG-2040. Not one store had the Remington BHT-650. I didnt want to buy it online and then have to go through the hassle of returning it if I did not like it so I scratched that off my list. After reading reviews and searching for a trimmer that would work in the shower, they all pointed me to the BG-2040. I went ahead and purchased it from Amazon for $49 with S&H included. I received it about 2 days ago and I was able to use it today in the shower. If you use this in the shower, you will need shaving cream with warm to hot water. I neglected to shave the past week because I was waiting on delivery of this item. While I was shaving my chest with the shaver part, it was a little difficult because my chest hair was about 1 inch long. I flipped the shaver to the trimmer side and I was able to trim with ease. Once I was done with the trimmer side, I flipped back to the shaver side and it shaved with no problems. I started shaving the top part of the shaft with the trimmer and it went really well up until (GULP) my DAM hot water went to cold water real fast and I had nippleitis (HAHA). Anyway, this shaver/trimmer is an excellent product and does what it says. I would suggest not to let your chest hairs grow to long cause then you will have to shave with both the trimmer and shaver. If you groom yourself weekly, you should be fine. There are 3 things Id like to point out about the shaver. 1-I have not been able to read anywhere online about this, but the 5 setting trimmer end, the head actually comes off completely which I did not know and thought it was there permanantly. This is perfect because I like to use the lowest possible setting when using the trimmer. (See pics) 2-The charging portions is OK. Initially you have to charger the product for 10 hours. After that, the manual states that the shaver/trimmer should be used twice a year where you let it die completely where the motor stops working. 3-The shaver/trimmer comes with a nice charging stand. I l;ike the idea and I want to leave it plugged in when not in use, BUT the manual states that the shaver/trimmer should never be put on the charger after your using it and never leave it on for more than 24 hours. If I am gonna put the stand on my counter, then why would I want to plug my shaver in if its not gonna charge unless its dead? Seeing that the shaver only last about 50 minutes, then you would have to constantly plug the charger in. Pros: -Strong feel to the shaver/trimmer -Can be used in the bath/shower -Removable trimmer head -Built in trimmer head so you never have to search for the correct one -Trimmer and Shaver on 1 machine Cons: -Not able to use the shaver while plugged in -Not able to leave the shaver in charger overnight (24 hours) Conclusion: -Even thought the shaver cant be left on the charger, this is an excellent product for what it does. From the looks online, this is the best item that can be used in or out of the shower and you get the best of a trimmer and shaver in one. I would recommend this to anyone.

Amazing Shaver - Well Worth the Money!
So first off, let's talk man to man. I'm a 20 year old guy, and I'm Indian. We're super hairy, just straight up. I know firsthand that it gets pretty uncomfortable with too much of it when it's not only on your head or face. I'm not really talking legs here, I'm talking about the place where we take our pride in. This was the first time I've EVER used an electric shaver. I've never used one for my face, always a manual razor (gillette fusion and shaving cream). So it's safe to admit that I was really scared. I read almost like 50 reviews, some raved it, some ranted. But here's my input from a guy who just started shaving his crotch with an electric shaver. I used to use cream and a razor, but that was just awful. I wouldn't cut myself a lot, but it just felt like I had to be incredibly careful, and afterwards (a day or two) I'd get horrible razor burns and the itchiness was unbearable. This thing is a Godsend. The trimmer:(which I think works best when your hair and skin is a little moist, but not wet. That way it doesn't catch and tug) It's great, it has "length" settings to go from longer to shorter trims. I basically went from long to short since I was a little nervous cutting it with this shaver. No pain at all. Okay great, all trimmed. The shaver now - I think it works fantastically with cream, not so much. It seriously does not give you any cuts. Just don't jam the shaver into your skin, obviously. Let it glide with just a little bit of force. It works exactly the same as if you used a razor and cream. Ridiculously smooth. Your girl is gonna love it, trust me. You can recharge this thing, which is so nice (pretty quick too!) and the full charge lasts about 5 shaves for me. And my hair grows back really fast. Comes with a small brush to clean off the hair, and it's easily detachable to clean with water. This really is a perfect shaver - I spent 60 bucks on my first electric shaver because I trusted people buying this from Amazon, so hopefully you can trust my two thumbs up here too.

Good Enough
Female with very coarse body hair and problematic ingrown-hair prone skin Bought this since normal razors destroy my skin and my hair roots are so deep that epilating is incredibly painful but I can't afford all the treatments for laser hair removal. This is a WAY better experience than other hair removal methods, no pain and can be done anywhere. Like others have said it holds consistent power up until the point it turns off. The beard trimmer side is very useful. As you can gather, it has a lot of positive aspects. The reason for the 3 star rating is that it doesn't get a very close shave and just to get the hair short you have to go over the same area a million times. My hair might just be too thick for it, who knows, the end result is I'm still taking forever shaving to get a meh result but at least it sucks SO MUCH LESS than all the rest of my options. This gives me far fewer ingrown hairs than any other method but still gives me some, especially on my thighs. The beard trimmer side is the perfect volume but the shaver side is pretty loud, if that's something you mind. Easy enough to clean. I only use this on my armpits in the shower since pits are always just kind of damp, doesn't do a very good job there but still no pain and it's passable enough. I think in general it works best dry. I've found that doing circular motion can help reduce the amount of passes I need where my hair is really dense, like my shins. Nice comfortable shape. I choose to listen to other posters here and use it til dead then charge only for the allotted hour, once fully charged it seems to last an eon. That's everything off the top of my head.

Works great!
I ordered this groomer after reading a lot of positive reviews on Amazon. When I received it, there was enough of a charge to give it a test drive, although the low battery indicator light was flashing about half way through. I'll only be using this on the south of the border region, as I don't have chest or back hair. And it had been awhile since I had performed any grooming because I was looking for a new shaver. Needless to say, this thing had its work cut out for it. It performed brilliantly. I used the trimmer end first, to knock down the high stuff. I originally set it on the longest setting, as a bit of a precautionary thing. It's always a little nerve-racking when there are mechanized devices with cutting heads in that region. I did a once over on the highest setting. No problems, so I adjusted the trimmer to the shortest setting. Again no problems! Well, I prefer a smooth shave down there, as does my wife, so I turned the trimmer end off, and switched to the razor end. It's really nice that only one end will operate at a time. It decreases the chance cutting yourself. Anyway, the razor shaves really close. Almost as close as a manual does. The best part? NO IRRITATION!!! NONE WHATSOEVER!!! I was amazed. Normally, after trimming and then shaving with a manual, I'd end up with some razor burn/irritation 1-2 days after. I had none at all with this groomer. It's fantastic!! It's completely "frank and beans"safe. No nicks, cuts, or gashes of any kind. I did read some reviews of other groomers that people suffered such casualties. Ouch! The only downside to this in my opinion is that it is a little awkward at first. It's got a slight bend in it, I assume to make it more comfortable in your hand. But, it makes it awkward when you're trying to trim/shave certain areas at certain angles. This is easily overcome though by repeated uses, and becoming more comfortable with handling the device. Clean-up is a breeze. The trimmer guard and head come off, as does the shaving head. You can choose to either simply brush everything clean with the included brush, or you can do a combination of brushing and rinsing under the faucet. If you rinse, just let everything air dry when you're finished. Very simple. I can't say how many uses you will get out of a single charge. I guess it depends on how regularly you use it. The manual does say a single 8 hour charge will last 50 minutes of operation. One last thing is that there is a registration card included in the packaging. You can register online, which you'll earn either an additional 6 months of warranty on the groomer, or a 15% discount on your next purchase of $100 or more at the Philips Norelco online store. I chose the extended 6 month warranty. One last thing. My wife saw how well of a job this does, and has been begging me to let her use it as well. I'm sure it would work equally as well for women.

So glad I got it
This shaver is great, I've been using it for 9 months now. There is DEFINITELY a learning curve in using the shaver, and so you do need to be careful how you use it. The thing I did wrong once (and only once) is that I first tried to use the extension trimmer side on my genital area to get my hair shorter before using the close-shave double-blades. That was a BAD move - because the plastic guard has it's guard wings too far apart, it allows loose skin to get in between and the blade is not built for "bare" shaving... so my scrotum skin actually got caught and then was nicked by the blade and I bled enough to learn a hard lesson. But it wasn't a deep cut and it wasn't excruciating pain, it was just enough to learn I can't do it that way anymore. Also, it's very intimidating to use anything electric on your genitalia... It's hard to trust this shaver at first, especially when in my case when it had already "bitten" me on one of the first uses... I was jaded because of that. but I kept using it and I'm really glad now, because I use it all the time and gives me the results I want. Basically, I've learned that i can only use the extension trimmer to keep myself groomed in the area around the genitalia, but I MUST use the close-shave double-sided blades ON my genitalia. The blades on that side are built so that they are so close together, it's almost impossible for any skin (even loose skin) to get caught in between the blades. The blades are a micro-factor when it comes to distance between them, only separating enough to really get hair fibers in between them to cut. This electric shaver technically will NOT ever get you a shave as close to a razor will... but honestly, it's pretty darn close enough. Hair grows way too fast for me to want to use a razor that frequently around my genitalia, and if you use this shaver every day then it will be smooth enough. You really have to let your hair grow for like 3 days for it to be that noticeably rough down there... but if you use this shaver daily or every other day even, you'll be happy with the smoothness it achieves especially considering the alternative is either a sharp razor to your skin, painful waxing, or using some chemical hair removers on your skin. No thanks!!! This little buddy is a fantastic solution to keeping a smooth, safe groom that you (and your lady) will love.

Pretty good shaver if you're careful and follow directions regarding the battery
I purchased this product from Amazon in August 2015. Many of the reviews that I have read mention the poor battery life. The instructions that come with the unit are very clear that, once charged, you have to run the battery down to nothing before charging again. If you put the unit on to charge after each use, the battery memorizes that usage as the life of the battery, and will begin to only last as long as its usage. Norelco should use Lithium ion batteries which do not succumb to this "charge effect". Having to run the battery down before charging may cause an annoying shut down in the middle of use, but that will only happen once in a relatively long while, which can be tolerated. Overall, I find that following the directions ensures adequate battery life. I have used this shaver exclusively for below the belt and in the shower with a shaving gel or soap. Using the foil part, I have been less than satisfied. Using the edge gives the closer shave, but I have gotten nicked even being very gentle. After use, out of the shower, dried off and in the light, I notice that it did not get everything and left the last few short, delicate hairs. Ok, but not ok. I have found that to get those, I needed to very carefully, and very slowly, dry shave, stretching the skin taut, and gently swiping with the edge rather than the foil. This method I use to get impeccably shaven, although carefully using the foil and edge in the shower with a gel or soap does an adequate job, just less well than cleaning up afterwards. I find that this shaver gets the job done if I take the time and effort to be careful and precise. Given how much my partner absolutely loves the shaven effect, it is very worth it. I have not tried any other shavers, so I obviously can't compare. And I would never take a razor down there, even a cartridge razor, given the certainty of the accidents that would happen. I give it 4 stars because I would have liked to see a better shave from the use of the foil alone.

Excelente producto

Philips Norelco Bg2040 Body Groom Pro Beard Trimmer
I have been using this product from Aug 2018. It is a reliable product so far with great battery back up( I use it once a week for about 15 to 20 minutes and a single full charge comes for nearly 6 weeks). The precision of hair cut is decent and it is easy to operate on. I chose this product compared to other Philips grooming device because of in built battery associated with the product compared to latest Philips model which comes with external AA batteries. This product come with a unique design of charger which is foldable. This is very useful when you travel and it just sleeks in a travel pouch.
