Gardman R687 4-Tier Mini Greenhouse, 27" Long x 18" Wide x 63" High Black

It didn't take too long to assemble (maybe 30 minutes...while watching TV!). When I placed the shelves on the shelf supports, the shelves slid around much too easily, so I felt that it was necessary to use 'zip ties' to attach the shelves to the shelf supports. I used black zip ties to make it less obvious that they were there. Now, the shelves are nice and stable. The plastic cover easily slid over the metal framework. The greenhouse (and clear plastic cover) seems to work as it was intended. To help it cope with Zone 6 freezing weather, I put two light bulbs inside (painted with high-temp black paint), with each light bulb controlled by its own 'Farm Innovators TC-3 Cold Weather Thermo Cube Thermostatically Controlled Outlet - On at 35-Degrees/Off at 45-Degrees'. One light bulb is on a lower shelf in the greenhouse (in the CENTER of the shelf, so I don't melt the plastic!); the other bulb is on the shelf that is half-way up the greenhouse. The combination of the greenhouse and the light bulbs seems to be working well to maintain the greenhouse above freezing. I can always tell how cold it is outside by looking to see if one, two (or none) of the light bulbs are lit. Of the 20 plants that I have in the greenhouse, all appear to be getting their 'chill hours' without the danger of actually freezing. I saw that there was an optional fleece cover, to better protect the greenhouse, but I didn't buy it.

Great quality. Versatility is great since I can sprout and keep grown plants inside. Ease of use is easy since it’s easy to set up and take down. Zipper works great. No missing parts in my order thankfully. I would buy again

Greenhouse Four-Tier Mini / B000NCTGQE I bought this greenhouse to start seedlings in the house before transplanting them outside for spring, and also to host a little herb garden in the kitchen area. Firstly, the measurements listed here are accurate. This is a very large unit, of respectable quality, and very affordable. I have yet to find another unit this size and quality online or in catalogs that doesn't cost twice this much. In fact, this same greenhouse is selling in some places for double this price, plus shipping, so Amazon has quite the bargain here. Secondly, the greenhouse is incredibly easy to put together. We had it out of the box and set up in less than half an hour, with no onerous tools required. The shelves are a thin metal lattice, to let sunlight filter down to the bottom levels, but the metal is strong and feels very sturdy. The cover has enough lee-way to slip on and off easily, as well as ties to hold it in place, and extends well to the ground, to act as a barrier to curious house cats and naughty puppies. However, and here's where I docked a star, some extra assembly is really required here. The shelves don't attach into place - they lay on top of the shelving bars, and it is absurdly easy to unbalance a shelf such that the shelf tips over and drops all your plants on the ground, spilling dirt and seeds everywhere. I had this happen and was not too amused. Don't let this put you off your purchase, though, as there is a simple solution: Buy some cheap cable ties (for example, Belkin 7.5IN Multicolored Cable Ties 52 Pieces ) and use them to cinch the shelves in place. I used 6 ties per shelf (one in each corner and two in the middle) and the shelves are now completely sturdy and will never shift or move on me. And the cable ties are easy to cut, if you ever need to disassemble your greenhouse during a move. So, bottom line, definitely buy this greenhouse for the bargain that it is and enjoy it immensely, as I am mine, but do remember to buy the cable ties (or something similar) to ensure that your pots won't fall and break. ~ Ana Mardoll

It was an absolute breeze to set up. Seriously. Under 5 minutes Just got it so I may adjust the review, depending on how well it works. However BEWARE that you will need to buy some cheap 15-18” garden stakes before putting this out. I had the foresight to buy the stakes before ordering one. If you do not secure it to the ground: any tiny amount of wind will send this thing flying into the abyss. It doesn’t weigh more than a couple pounds. Seriously. It’s like laying a handheld umbrella in your yard without any base or weight and expecting to have it stay still. Do not attempt to use it unless you have a way to secure it to the GROUND. The little outside rings on the top are laughable. Not sure what they were thinking by not including better ways to secure it. I got a 12 pack of 15” stakes at ACE for $1.99... with that said, that the only con I’ve seen thus far. The trays like to wobble a lot. I used some bamboo rods to prevent that. Again: one whole dollar for four of them that are 5ft tall and I used a mallet to drive them into the dirt a bit before I put the cover on. I am nervous about the cover though: I’m not sure it’ll create a true greenhouse effect. Also, I’m not sure if it’ll come flying off. The Velcro they use internally is garbage. With a few tweaks it should be stable. Zip ties are pennies. But for my needs, I’m just hoping that the plastic performs as well as glass in creating the greenhouse effect necessary.

I've been using mine for 2 years and I love it. A few tips: 1. Zip tie the shelves, as other reviewers have suggested. 2. Put glue in the holes before sticking the plastic pieces together if you want to be able to pick it up and move it easily (don't do this if you want to be able to take it apart later, of course). 3. Take a square of Velcro tape and stick one half to the back of the greenhouse cover and the other half to the front of the front flap. This makes it so you can easily flip the front flap back behind the greenhouse during the day to air it out, and easily flip it back down. Rolling it up is a pain and blocks sunlinght to whatever is on the top shelf. 4. Put old incandescent christmas lights on/under the bottom shelf to keep it warm overnight in the winter (I live in an area of Northern California where it only drops a few degrees below freezing at night during the winter, so just a few degrees difference worked for me to overwinter herbs in this all winter long). I've been using this for 2 years to start seeds, overwinter herbs and flowers, and in the summer to store my fertilizer, pots, trays and that sort of thing. It's been great for me! Just this week I noticed a little spot of rust on one of the shelves, but seeing as I left it sitting uncovered all summer getting sprayed by the sprinkler and beat on by the hot California sun, I think that's pretty good. I can only speak for the durability of the cover up to 1 year, since I took it off to clean it and my dad accidentally threw it away, but at that point it was still in like-new condition, no holes or thin spots or anything, zipper in perfect working order.

I received this greenhouse for the first time about a week ago. Setup was extremely easy, with no tools needed to properly install the shelves or the screen, and it goes up without a cinch in about 5-10 minutes. The instructions are simplistic, but give all the necessary info, and in any case it would take some effort to put this together wrong. The first thing I noticed about the unit was the cover. The PVC cover is clear and thick. In about an hour after watering at 65 degrees, the greenhouse was fogging with humidity. The cover makes this greenhouse. As for the rest of it, it is just average. The wire shelves come bent out of shape, and generally require some finesse to place onto the greenhouse properly. They also are not made for load-bearing of any kind. The tubes are thin-walled, but reasonable. The support brackets are too thin in some sections but substantial in others. Here is my personal experience with the product: I put this in my backyard backed up against a fence. I loaded 4 24-inch long window boxes and about 20 small paper cups, all filled with dirt, two window boxes to a shelf. The stability, while a bit flimsy as I said, was fantastic. I tested out the weight with my brother, and with the window boxes on, it was quite heavy. As a side note, make sure to place your plants so that they are supported on the actual beams, not just the shelf, which cannot handle much. I watered my plants, and left it out overnight. I came out the next day and multiple supports had cracked and the unit had fallen over, along with my plant seed and dirt. From the looks of it, the supports started to buckle and the weight moved forward, which was enough to tip it. I was very disappointed that the supports did not seem to be able to support much, considering the greenhouse only has one job to do; hold my plants and dirt. I immediately contacted amazon, who sent another unit over. I returned the first. I just put up the second one, and strapped it to the fence with rope and zip-ties. The thing isn't going anywhere now. So far I don't see much issue. I removed one window box to be sure of the weight issues. My biggest qualm here would be that there is no weight limit listed on any of the documentation. I would feel much more comfortable if they had a weight limit listed, or if the construction was made with stronger stuff. Overall, 3 stars come from a few things: PRO: The unit is simplistic, but does the job very well in terms of keeping heat and moisture in. The PVC Cover is fantastic. The unit is decent in size, though more height between shelves would have been more useful. Amazon customer service is, as always, great. I never have a problem with them. CON: There is no weight limit listed on the unit, and therefore no accountability from the manufacturer or the user. The construction is made with extremely flimsy shelves that are often bent upon arrival. The shelves cannot hold any weight, so anything you put on the greenhouse must be of correct size to be supported on the tubes. Comments: Polypropylene Support Brackets are well-made, but a bit thin. Give and Take here. The unit keeps heat and moisture in so well that on a hot day, the whole thing will be fogged with humidity. I may do a review throughout the year about the change in temperature inside and outside the greenhouse. It would be very easy to hook-up a vapor system for watering, and a small internal heater for the winter if required. Overall: Get this greenhouse if you need a place to start plants earlier in the season. It is not large enough to keep anything large in there. If you had to, you could remove a shelf to keep large plants inside though. The PVC cover is excellent, and I suspect that from zone 4-6 you could start plants as early as late march inside (perhaps with a small heater) without any trouble. With a heater, any zone, any date. Do not get this greenhouse if you want to grow plants to term in here. I would buy a walk in greenhouse for that one. This is just too small. It does retain heat and humidity very well though. Finally, definitely watch the weight you put on, and how you distribute it. Tie the top of the greenhouse to something to prevent it from tipping over. I also recommend putting pest-reducing plants at the bottom, for safety. I have marigolds and mint, and nothing comes near (and I have a copious amount of squirrels, raccoons, and rabbits who love tearing up my garden, from experience). Enjoy.

I live in a small 2-bedroom apartment with limited space and limited exposure to the sun out of my east and west facing windows. I live in Alaska so I REALLY look forward to planting stuff each spring because after 6 months of winter I'm ready for warmer days and starting an indoor garden is a great way to get it going before the snows all gone. My apartment poses two issues - 1) I'm on the north end of a 4-plex so I only get a few hours of morning sun and another few hours of evening sun in early-mid spring. This means I needed something I could easily move from one side of my apartment to the other as I chased the sun. The Gardman R687 4-tier mini greenhouse does the trick perfectly as it is VERY lightweight yet very sturdy. I can very easily move the enitire unit, without any disassembly, from one side of my apartment to other which I have to do daily (I remove the plant trays first to avoid spilling them but could probably move the whole get-up if I were really careful). 2)The other issue is space. The 4-tier design is really nice as I can have 4 trays of plants going at once and the upper tier offers more "head room", so to speak, for my already established plants that I'm trying to kick start for spring. Also the lightweight wire shelves are easily removed so once my plants get going I plan to transfer the greenhouse out to our balcony with two tiers removed for more room for my tomatoes and peppers to grow. The unit is easily accessible via the two front zippers which once unzipped allow you to lift the entire front panel of plastic up and out of your way and the zippers seem to be fairly durable as well. The plastic is fairly heavy weight and overall the unit looks to be very durable but since it's my first season using it, time will tell. For the price, I don't think you can beat it. I can't believe Amazon shipped it to me for free (thank you, Amazon!) as most online merchants either don't ship to Alaska at all or they gouge us because we're not in the lower 48 states. Amazon is one of the only online merchants that treats those of us in the 49th state like we're actually part of the USA.

This greenhouse is perfect. I was hesitant to buy it based on the reviews saying it was hard to assemble and didn't come with instructions or the parts didn't fit, but I didn't have any of those problems. It took me less than 10 minutes to put together myself without using any tools besides my hands. If it's helpful to anyone, this is how I did it... Parts list included in package: 10 cross members (plastic) 16 uprights (short metal bars) 12 cross poles (long metal bars) 2 roof arches (triangular metal bars) 4 trays (wire mesh shelving) 1 plastic cover (self explanatory) I started by assembling the base, placing 3 cross poles in the holes of a cross member. I placed the center pole of the three in the top hole of the two in the center of the cross brace to support the shelving. Then I placed a cross member on the other side of the cross poles. Base complete. You can repeat this step 3 more times to make each shelf ahead of time to make assembly easier. Next I placed the upright poles in each of the four holes on top of the cross members and placed the next pre assembled shelf on top of the upright poles. Be sure to use pressure to put the poles in the holes of the cross members to make it structurally sound. Place 4 more upright poles in the holes on top of that cross member to then place the next shelf. Repeat two more times to reach the top level. At the top, place a cross member on either side connecting the last four upright poles. Place the roof arch poles, one connecting across the length of the front of the greenhouse, and one connecting across the length of the back. Place the wire mesh on top of each shelf. When putting the cover on, be sure to have the zip open doors on the front and back, not the sides. I slipped it on wrong the first time and the peak on the plastic cover didn't line up with the arches. Hope this helps! Will be purchasing again.

Product as described. Assembled easily. Was able to install grow lights. No issues holding the lights. I would not use outdoors as it is fairly light and wind would be an issue.
