Whirlpool 4396841 PUR [Fast Fill] FILTER3 Refrigerator Water Filter (1-Pack)

Bought this as a direct replacement on my fridge for my ice and water dispenser. It installed quickly and easily but I have no idea if it does anything. It did nothing to change the taste of my city water. I expected it to work like a Brita or PUR pitcher filter. It doesn't. I can easily taste the difference between my fridge water and my filtered pitcher water- my pitcher water is better. My fridge water tastes just like it came straight from the tap. It is very free flowing also- in other words, there is no reduction in pressure with it installed which makes me wonder about the effectiveness of the filtration element. I thought a new filter would slow the water flow down a little as the water passed through. This one doesn't. In my opinion, I won't buy this brand again.

What happened to the filter?? It looks the same as the one I had been buying for 7 years up to 6 months ago, but it's not the same.The Wirlpool filter cap that protects the filter from outside did not fit. I tried multiple times and it just would not fit. Then, once I inserted the filter in the refrigerator, the water started pouring out. I took it out, compared to the old one, saw no visible differences, inserted back in, the same result. On the third attempt, the water did not leak...But now I can't find any instructions on how much water I need to flow through the filter before it's usable. It used to be either on the box or on the instructions inside. There are no instructions inside or such information on the outside of the box...

I have ordered many of these filters online. They're basically all the same and there's no need to pay more for "quality". Its a cartridge filled with activated charcoal to filter out impurities and smell. Look for the cheapest and just make sure it's guaranteed. When you get the new one delivered make sure it's not previously used. Smell it and turn it upside down for an hour to see if water comes out of it. Good product, I recommend it to everyone. This seller responds fast and has it shipped immediately. Here is the problem. I received a bad water filter. The water coming out of the filter smells very strong like insecticide. This is potentially a public health concern. When I contacted the manufacturer (PUR) they told me that they do not make the filter but that Whirlpool makes the water filter. When I contacted Whirlpool, they tell me that PUR makes the filter. Nobody will admit to making the water filter. Just to be perfectly clear, the filter itself and the box it came in says PUR. I contacted the Consumer Product Safety Commission and was basically told that they don't get involved in that. If I wanted, I could contact an independent lab and have the water filter tested at my own expense. So, I'm revising my review to include the following warning: Order at your own risk and return the product immediately if you suspect something. If enough people return these products, maybe whoever makes them will notice.

I originally gave this product three stars because it arrived without any install instructions and because my PUR OEM filter cap would not fit. Because of this, I got the filter jammed into the fridge receptacle and had to tap it out (counter clockwise) with a screwdriver and hammer, thereby ruining the filter and having to put the old filter back in. But today, I received an email from the vendor (Empire Savings) stating that they have sent me a new replacement filter by air with no need to send back the defective filter.Kudos to Empire Savings--totally awesome customer satisfaction--very unusual for this day and time. I would not hesitate to buy from Empire Savings again, nor to recommend them to others.I do not know why my filter cap wouldn't fit the filter; it looked exactly like the one I had, except there were no instructions on it for install, which are simple enough, except that there is a certain angle at which you have to insert the filter for it to snap in place properly. The filter is a Whirlpool 4396841 PUR Push Button Side-by-Side model.

If I could give this zero stars I would. For $70 I should have listened to some of the other posters. This thing is awful. I don't understand, some people love it. 1 out of 5, including me, seem to get one that makes the water and ice taste so bad. Imagine blowing up a brand new raft that you bought for your child. It's hot out. You're sucking in that plastic tasting air with each blow. That is exactly what it tastes like.Put up with it for 3 months. Ran at least 15-20 gallons through the thing. So embarrassing having guests over and have to have an ice chest with ice from our other fridge. DO NOT BUY!!! I don't blame Amazon, I blame the manufacturer unless Amazon refuses to remove this product from its website due to all of these bad reviews. Then I'll blame them too. I love Amazon. I got Prime last year and am hooked. I use the site for everything I need, but getting burned for $70 bucks is not cool.

It’s good. It took the coffee stains out of my husbands teeth.Cons: too loose and messy. Need to brush your teeth after as it leaves a lot of colour

Good quality filter. Reasonable price on Amazon compared to other suppliers. Easy to replace the old one by pressing the button below to release, then pop in the new one until it clicks.

Works perfectly. The price on this item seems to fluctuate a lot though. When I checked a few weeks ago it was $20 less than what I bought it for. I checked just last week and it's $20 more than I what I paid for it.

It needs a bit of a smack to get it fully inserted, but works well and no leaks. Took a lot of water running through it before it ran clear, but since then it's been great. Nice to have filtered ice too.

Well, this is the OEM filter. I couldn't find this on my local parts store but Amazon had it and even better, it was on sale too :) It was packaged pretty good, and arrived quickly. Installing was no issue, gits nicely. I ran few cups of water through it and tried it after. No funny smell or taste yet. I will be ordering my future ones from here.
