Solid VHF Radio
This is a solid radio and it performs well. I have owned a Standard Horizon brand radio for 15 years before I finally beat it to death on yet another brutal beach catamaran distance race up the coast. I think that unit was once also fixed for free with Standard Horizon's good customer support and I was really happy with them as a company - so I came back. Back to this HX150; Because we get a LOT of water on everything, even though they are "waterproof", my radios tend to live in a sealed radio dry bag which makes them more difficult to use. This is the first radio I've owned that doesn't have a rotary knob at the top for volume, on/off, and/or squelch and this one is MUCH easier to use from within a dry bag because of it. It seems like it leaks down battery power if stored for an extended period unlike my other radios but this is a minor issue. I've found that the range is great (better than my previous radio) and is better what I would expect. It both transmits and receives very loud and clear and the available volume, in particular, is great. The floating feature is nice comfort for when I'm out on bigger boats and not keeping it in a dry bag but I don't understand why every manufacturer seems to color all of their floating radios black! Even thought it floats, I probably won't be able to find this if I drop it overboard in anything but the most pristine conditions. But alas, at least I have a chance to find it whereas a sinking radio would simply be gone. I may spray paint an area of it some bright color on it to both identify it as mine and to help make it visible should I ever drop it overboard.

Amust have on the water
This works perfect for our jet ski, because I was always worried we would get stranded or something would happen and our phones would not have a signal to get help. With this I now feel WAYYYY more safe and it is waterproof too and I believe it floats if I remember right. Very loud if you need it to be also, and you can lock it so you don't accidently push any buttons

Like the radio very much
Like the radio very much, seems to transmit and receive well, the instructions says there should be a F or full after the charge up the right hand corner, it shows just the battery..nothing else

It floats, battery seems to last a long time and it's very clear
Bought two of these for kayaking; it's nice to know you can communicate over a relatively long distance when on the water. My son and I kayak together and it's nice to be able to stay in touch when we get separated.I had another Standard Horizon radio on our big boat and it works well and has held up well over the years; no reason to think these two will be any different.

Works OK for what I need it for. But better range would be helpful

Perfect size for a hand held.
This radio seems to put out a great signal. I use it on my kayak and keep it on my PFD at all times. It is small enough to stay out of the way and very easy to get to.
