UPDATED: Quality value for the money. Recommended but only for small rooms with limited traffic.
Original title: Is this thing even working? - Maybe a Pass? This is my first ever air purifier but its really hard to tell if this is even doing anything. My office is 8' x 10', and I keep my door closed most days. Other than the white noise element, it is really hard for me to tell if this is doing anything more than serving as an expensive and poorly performing fan. I wouldn't recommend using this in any space larger than 8'x10', and ideally, not even for something this "big". If you work in an actual closet then this could be the purifier for you! Maybe? 3 stars honestly because I can't tell if it's even making a difference, and feel bad giving it 1 star if I'm just not sensitive enough to notice the benefits of an air purifier. I left it running on high over the weekend and my office smelled different, but not really "better", more just weird. It is definitely NOT quiet though. On medium, it is too much for me to have a phone call in the same room. High might as well be a jet engine if you are trying to hear or have a conversation. If you want to think and block out your annoying work neighbor though, then this is GREAT! Some positives: Quality seems good. It has a sturdy metal case, and the knob seems like it will last for years to come. Uses a standard filter size so replacements should be easy to acquire. UPDATE: After using this for going on two years, and a full replacement filter life cycle, I can confirm that it IS actually doing something, haha. It does a good job of filtering out airborne dust and particulates in my small office. It also does a great job of removing odors for the first few months of the filter's use. I generally run it all day on low or medium to keep some air moving and to provide a good white-noise background. Medium is still a little much for a phone call without a noise-canceling headset. Having the office door open, or frequent trips in and out of the office do overwhelm it quickly though. I couldn't see this being of any real use in a room that couldn't be closed off or one that is any larger than 150 sqft. There is also no way to tell if the UV bulb needs to be replaced. It would be nice to include some sort of status light that would let you know its still working properly. Removing the filter and wedging the safety switches allowed me to see that it was still working but that is less than ideal. Replacement filters were easy to find on Amazon, GermGardian "E" type, and installed without any trouble. I would note that air does not blow uniformly out of the front of the filter. It tends to blow most strongly between 30 and 80 degrees to the left of the centerline when looking at the front of the unit. With almost no flow coming out to the right of the centerline. This happens to work well for the counterclockwise airflow in my office but should be considered based on your intended location.

game changer for allergies!
Just, wow! I had previously purchased a Germ Guardian pluggable air purifier for my bathroom. Honestly, I left a review on that one about a year ago. I had no complaints except I couldn't tell if it was actually working... This product though from Germ Guardian is another level! It's very simple to operate with just one button (the ionizer) and a click-wheel to get through the different fan settings (fan speed). You can immediately SMELL this thing is working, and it's working big time! I have never encountered such a well made air purifier before. There is some white noise with this machine, but it blocks out other sounds when I use it to sleep so I don't mind. It saves me sinus and headache and allergy medications and issues! The air smells fresh, crisp, and CLEAN! Again, honestly wasn't sure if this item was going to deliver in terms of performance; however, it far exceeds my expectations! Note: the air does blow out at an angle - probably 45 degrees - it does not blow out straight. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind this, but just a minor inconvenience. Overall, extremely well made product that has helped my health tremendously! I will be a future customer for life! THANK YOU GERM GUARDIAN!

Loud, but Refreshing...
Using the GermGuardian in my office cubicle (8' x 8' x 5.5') that does not have a functioning window nor natural light. Such a dreary work environment. Week 1: Upon opening the box, I was greeted with the User Manual. Since I needed to submit an office permit to use this at my desk, I briefly scanned through the English section of the manual which was a quick and simple read, and was able to find the information for my office permit with ease. I removed the the air purifier from the box and checked for any noticeable defects; I did not find any externally and the filters seemingly new. On the back, there is a dial with the months which can be turned using a coin to set as a reminder for when to replace the filters. On the front, the knob can be rotated through 4 settings (Off, I, II, III) and a UV button that can be on or off. I plugged in the air purifier and turned the knob to the first setting (I) and set the UV in the 'on' position. NOISE: I quickly noticed how loud it was; like a computer fan kicking on the highest setting because the computer is processing a large software update. If you like white noise while you work, then it is not too bad. The first setting white noise definitely drowns the sound from the office air conditioning unit, but after stepping out of my cubicle, I am not able to hear the air purifier. On the second setting (II), is even louder than the first and can be faintly heard in the adjacently attached cubicles. On the last setting (III), is much louder than the previous two settings. In the adjacent cubicle, setting III sounds like a vacuum in the distance. The UV button had no impact on the level of noise. AIR QUALITY: Being that there is not a window in sight near my cubicle, I was impressed with how refreshing to have air circulated at my desk. The air feels cooler, too. I must admit that having the air circulate makes it a bit more tolerable to sit at a cubicle all day (now just need to find a way to have the illusion of natural light). Additionally, I have been sneezing less while sitting at my desk. Prior to the air purifier, sometimes I would sneeze continuously and need to step outside the building to decompress. Also, my coworker that sits in the cubicle next to me, is a smoker and it was noticeable when he would return from a smoke-break. With the air purifier in the first setting, I was not able to notice any lingering cigarette smoke. So far, I am pleased with this air purifier. I may post updated experiences with this air purifier in the weeks/months to come...

Works well
Trying to register this unit has been a nightmare! Lasko does not make it easy at all! As for the unit it’s self , easy set up and will be easy to replace filters! Not heavy at all and seems well made! It has three settings and a UV button! I like it for background noise! Can’t complain for the price! I pray it holds up!

great air cleaner
bought this as a placeholder until i can afford another dyson pure. we bought a dyson pure and after a few days noticed how AMAZING the air in our house smelled. its lite and clean, way better than without it. so we decided to get a few more filter fans for the other rooms. this germ guardian was recommended by a friend that got a 2 pack at costco. they have allergies and swear by this. it's only been a week but this filter fan is already making a wave of good in my bedroom. i'm going to buy two more. one for the home office and one for my desk at work. we have a cockatiel with a sneezing problem and after putting the dyson and germ guardian in the house the bird sneezes less already. super excited to add a second germ guardian to the house and see how great it feels walking into a clean home. the only negative of this project is, now i am going down this rabbit hole of trying to get all the dust out of my house. from register vent filters to high MERV rated duct filters. it's a big chore. this is not caused by the germ guardian. the dyson pure has a rating system for your house air quality and once our house got to GOOD rating, the AC turned on and it was instantly VERY POOR rating. now anytime the AC turns on the sensor reports VERY POOR. we rent and our landlord is a prick so there's little we can do to the house itself. but getting the germ guardian in the bedroom, register vent filters, and the dyson in the living room next to the primary air vent helps SO MUCH. we are still in FAIR to GOOD but its rising every hour of the day and over time i am sure we will get a lot of the dust out of the house. if you are in serious need of clean air, this will be OK but i do suggest a dedicated unit with a sensor like the dyson pure at least in one room of your house. we will over time swap all these germ guardians out with dyson pure units but we are far from rich so that will be a task to complete over time. these units are very nice, yes the air blows out of only one part at a seemingly 45^ angle and that's a little weird. yes it's a little noisy on all levels, and yes there is a slight rattle that goes away with a firm tap to the unit but all in all i dont mind. hasn't kept me awake and the good is far better than the bad. TL:DR: i suggest this unit. works well.

Very pleased with my replacement unit.
This product looks aesthetically pleasing and well made, but upon opening the box this is not the case. I bought a GermGuardian AC4825 in 2014 and I love it. Its literally been running for 2 years. Its not noisy, doesn't vibrate, and just feels like a good quality item. I have no complaints about it. It seems like GermGuardian has really let quality slip since then. The AC4100 feels cheap right out of the box. The plastic case is thin, doesn't line up right in some areas. The filter guard clip feels like its going to snap off every time I clean it and does not fit snugly against the filter or case. My biggest complaint is the noise. The motor or fan is very unbalanced and vibrates. I have to keep it on low or I can hear an annoying vibration two rooms away. I had intended to put this on my desk but even on low the whole desk rattles. If I put it on the wood floor with the fan set on high, its felt throughout my whole apartment. For the last two months its been on a thick foam mat that I cut to size, this helps dampen the vibration a bit but I still hear it on low. Having used it for 2 months I must say it does filter the air well and do its intended job. But for the price and quality that I had expected this product was a big let down. Edit: TL;RD: I should have had my air purifier replaced months ago, I obviously received a bad unit. I did contact customer support as suggested and linked them this review. They responded the business next day and asked for a receipt and the MFG code on the unit. Much to my surprise customer support replied asking for my address and said they would send me a replacement unit, an hour later I got a replacement order confirmation. I didn't have to go though the hassle of returning my old unit, they just sent a new one. I have to say I am quite pleased with the customer support, they responded quickly and were very nice even when I expressed my disconcerting attitude towards the product. I am very happy with the new unit they sent. The case lines up, the filter guard fits snug as it should. More importantly this unit has no vibration! I couldn't believe the difference, it is so quiet compared to the old unit. On low I can't even tell its on when next to me watching tv. The new unit they sent is a huge difference compared to my original one as far as noise and general quality. It's obvious my original was defective, I should have contacted GermGuardian customer support months ago. That said I would buy this product again, GermGuardian customer support has done well by me. Assuming that this is the product I should have received in the first place I changed my rating from 1 star to 5 stars.

Very loud
I guess it's fine, I can't really tell if it's making a difference in the air quality. We only run it when we're sleeping or out of the house because it's so loud we can't enjoy watching TV or having conversations. Also when it's running, the "new plastic" smell of it fills the house, but maybe that will go away after we've had it for a while

Still great 7 years later
I don't know if this model is still for sale (currently unavailable, but similar to other models by this brand) but I figured I'd add a review anyway This is the only air purifier I've bought but it's been the only one I've needed, I got it in 2018 and it's currently 2025 and this thing's still going strong. You can really tell the difference when it's running, especially with the UV light turned on - the air feels cleaner and less dusty, and it's extremely durable. I change the filters every six months or so, sometimes longer since I don't run it as much in the warmer months, but the UV light did need to be replaced after a while (it was really easy to swap it though). I've used a few of the off-brand filters too and they're okay, but I really wouldn't recommend it unless you're on a budget. The last ones I bought didn't fit properly so dust kept getting into the air purifier itself, and I'm a bit worried about any potential damage from that (seems easy to clean though, I usually use compressed air but I might have to take it apart at some point to check for dust). This brand has been great and extremely reliable, there are so many out there who make products that don't last just so you have to keep buying the upgraded versions but this is honestly one of the best purchases I've ever made.
