Works well. Took some time to learn the flow rate etc. The product does what you need it too and spreads pretty consistently one you get the hang of it. My only gripe is that the arm support thing gets pushed in quite frequently which adds more weight on your wrist. (My poor wrist) all in all great product and super easy for beginner landscapers

Works on 2000 sq foot lawn, Turning the crank backwards causes an edge so you can spread parallel to the planting beds with very little stray weed and feed getting in. Holds enough Scotts granules for about 700 sq feet at a time based on the weed and feed with crabgrass control directions of lbs per area. I like the idea there isn't much left over and that I can just walk and whirl. Makes it easy. The trigger and rate controls are simple and work well. The only issue was the wrist support arm kept retracting. The positive stop isn't too positive.

This is the same Scotts Whirl you see in stores. Seems to work fine. You need to make sure you don't spin to fast or slow but that is the same as walking behind the larger push version. This doesn't hold a huge amount but enough for a smaller yard or if you have a medium just refill it. I fill it for my front and side and the again for my backyard. I like that for my landscaped areas I can easily walk around instead of trying to get the spreader in between my plantings as well as easy to spread into corners and such. I feel that it is well enough balanced with the extendable arm to be comfortable but that is also why you don't have a bigger hopper. It does leave a tiny bit at the very end that doesn't seem to want to go down into the spinner but I have also noticed that on the walk behind models as well. Unless I had a larger lawn I don't think I would go back to a push spreader.

Don't get me wrong, the old hardware store brand served me well for many years, but it broke in a move. I went to use it and realized the handle had broken off and was missing. I bought this Scotts brand to replace it, primarily because it was the only hand spreader listed here. Once I got may hands on this it feels heavier and much more solidly built than my old one. The handle spins very smoothly and the whole thing feels like a step or two up in every aspect. Then I noticed the handle. It has a hook on it that goes under your forearm to balance the weight and reduce wrist fatigue. What a nice touch! I live in Arizona. We don't have large grass yards here. The yards are mostly rock with a small plot of grass. A hand spreader is all I need for seed, fertilizer, or that latest use, insecticide granules. I use it to disperse the granules throughout the rock to kill scorpions and other pests. This application covers the whole yard, but a wheeled spreader would not work well in the rock. For my needs this is the perfect spreader! A larger hopper might be nice, but it would be too heavy to use, especially if fertilizing with Ironite!

I liked the way the spreader makes it easy to get even distribution over a large area. I have used it for both fertilizers and grass seed and like the way you can adjust distribution rate. The only downside is that it is difficult to restrict coverage to a defined area. You would need to be careful if you did not want a lawn treatment going over a nearby flower border etc. Overall, good value product that seems well built and makes spreading products easier.

I like to spread by hand as opposed to a wheeled spreader. This hand held allows me to direct the fertilizer where I want it specifically. So it does that and keeps the spread product out of my shoes. It works well and is easy to clean upon finishing.
