MB42X-C Advanced 2-Way Passive Center Channel Speaker, Each, Black

Being a big fan of the MB42X speakers, I just couldn't help buying a set of these. I bought two and am using them as left and right mains on a stereo set-up. I received them earlier in the week and have been letting them play several hours a day to break them in. And they have not disappointed me! They are amazingly smooth and well-balanced for such an inexpensive speaker. They sound much like the MB42X's, but with better base. Not lower base, but the twin woofers seem to make the base response more pronounced. For 4" woofers, the bass response is quite impressive. I am running them with a sub, but even with the off the bass is very full and rich. I am testing these in a room where I normally run speakers with 6.5" woofers, and these almost match the bass response of the larger speakers. The tweeters appear to be the same ones as the MB42X's use, which is a good thing. They are bright for silk dome tweeters, but never too bright. Just the right amount of sparkle to make the highs so pleasant. Vocals are very natural on these. Though I'm using them as a stereo set; I have no doubt they will perform well as a center speaker. And the extended bass response will likely allow these to out perform many larger speakers. For home theater; using these for center, left and right with MB42X's in the rear and a sub would totally rock a small to mid sized room. These are knocking on the door of entry level audiophile grade, but for budget prices. I have 3 sets of MB42X's which have all held up nicely to frequent use; so I would expect these to last as well. Incredible speakers for the price, and very good speakers for almost any price. I recommend these with confidence, Good listening! Update- I've been playing these for a month or so now. Like their little brothers, these speakers need a lot of break-in. And I seriously mean A LOT of break in. Honestly, I've never seen speakers this slow to loosen up, which I think is why some are not rating them as high as perhaps they should. Anyone basing their opinion on how they sound right out of the box is not realizing the potential of these speakers. . The "hollow" sound that some complain about in the MB42X's pretty much goes away once they have some time on them. I'm talking about 30-40 + hours of play time here; these speakers are very slow to loosen up. But when they do... The bass these things make defies the laws of physics. Amazing! Not quite audiophile grade, but pretty close. A couple of spots on the response graph is all that is keeping them from being equal to $500 speakers. And frankly, most people won't notice the very slight deficiencies. What really matters is that they sound good, and they do! A crazy bargain at this price!

I was recently gifted 4 older speakers and a subwoofer to upgrade my home theater setup. The front 2 channels were Bose. Things sounded good, but I felt like I was missing a lot of clarity and dialogue due to the lack of center speaker. I found this one for $90 and installed it to work in tandem and now have a full 5.1 surround setup. The timbre of the Micca blends in nicely with the Bose channels and it has elevated my whole setup. Definitely worth it! Great quality and sound for the price.

To be brutally honest, I purchased this center channel speaker only because it fit the height requirements and the under $100 budget I had. When the 25+ year old Infinity CC-1 I had in my bedroom system decided to fail, I was stuck with the options of finding another one used or to try to find something new to replace it. The CC-1 was a solid performer, but had its shortcomings, so I decided on something new. The Micca unit I received was one of the gen3 with the 18dB/octave crossover, and quite frankly, I'm rather impressed with the performance it offers for both its size and the money. Don't get me wrong, it will never be confused with the performance of something from SVS, the ELAC Debuts or anything like that, but in the small space it fits in, it does the job quite well. It does require either some automatic or manual DSP to make up for its frequency response, but after that, I was very pleased. The first thing I threw at it after setting the SPL level and tweaking the EQ a bit were several movies that I know are infamous for having dialog that's difficult to hear in many scenes - in particular, several Nolan films. The Micca did not disappoint, and was often equal to and sometimes better than the Infinity CC-1. This center channel also handles handoffs between the Infinity RS-5s that are the front L/R channels seamlessly. In the end, if you have either space or budget constraints, this speaker works pretty well, at least in a smaller room. It handles the AV receiver having the crossover set at 80Hz with no problem, although 100Hz would probably be a better option in a larger room. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because it does require some EQ work in order to make it sound its best.

Very compact, be sure you look at the dimensions, but an extremely solid center speaker with good dynamic range for its size. A very good product.

Let me start by saying that I would normally try to create a home theater system with matched speakers from one manufacturer. But I needed to find an inexpensive center channel speaker to become the core of a new system that would replace a fairly decent set of TV speakers attached to a Pioneer Elite Plasma panel in our living room. I decided to expand the system to a 3.1 configuration (surround was not a good option). I added a nice B&W sub and a new Denon entry level receiver to a pair of Definitive Technology tower speakers (each with an onboard powered subwoofer). A key goal was to try to match the main speakers as best as possible between the center channel speaker and the towers. I admit that the ideal solution would be to buy a new Def Tech powered center channel speaker with a built in sub, but that would be cost prohibitive. However, this Micca speaker has turned out to be a a great choice. I defined it as 'small' within the receiver speaker setup so that any center channel low frequencies would be routed to the subwoofer. Once that was done, it performed beautifully. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical when I placed my order as I'd never heard of this brand before reading reviews on it as an alternative to a Pioneer center speaker I was initially drawn to. But this Micca on sale was a great value, had glowing reviews and it had a basic form factor that would look great in the room. I would also say that the speaker has improved it's response over time, indicating that it would benefit from a break in period before you fully assess it's sound. I am very happy with this purchase and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I just got my system really dialed in today and I'm so happy I bought this speaker. I am hard of hearing with a degenerative condition where my hearing gets worse as I grow older. When I was younger, I could hear music pretty normally except for the highest pitch flutes and cymbals. But for the last 5 years or so it has been incredibly difficult to enjoy music unless wearing headphones because vocals have sounded very muted on any system. Today, I feel like I'm hearing music as good as I did 10 years ago. I recently upgraded to the entry level Onkyo 5.1 receiver. When I first hooked up this speaker, I noticed an immediate difference and could hear vocals and mids better, but as I've dialed in this system and played with the settings of the receiver, I have really brought out the sounds I haven't been able to hear for years. Whats even more impressive, is that in configuring settings like the sound image and dimensional settings, I have really been able to bring out both the clarity of vocals, but also keep the bass really tight and strong. I'm hearing bass come out of this speaker that wasn't there when I first hooked it up, and it sounds fantastic. So the takeaway for you folks without a hearing problem should be this: This is an exceptional speaker, especially for the price. when dialed into the system, you're going to get fantastic vocals and tight, efficient bass. It won't shake the room, but it won't muddy up your highs either. This is all thanks to the crossover. If you're on a stereo system, I would suggest buying two of these and using for you main speakers and pair it with a subwoofer and you will be set.

After seeing Zeos's recommendation I bought three of these speaker, one for each of my front channels. As far as I know this is some of the best sound you can get for speakers with such a small footprint (once you stand them vertically). I was very surprised by the sound they can produce for 4" drivers. These small speakers don't move enough air to prevent the low frequencies from starting to drop of in volume but they could still go down to the advertised 60hz. I pair the speakers with a BIC F12 subwoofer and I think I set the crossover to 90hz. I have only tried these in a small room on a computer desk but they get much louder than I would ever want. Even when playing at low volumes details in the sound "reach out" and hit me ways my previous smaller HTiB speakers could never reproduce. A bit of power is required to drive these, with their impedance listed as 4-8 Ohms but I still run them without problems on my Onkyo TX NR-646 receiver which wasn't really meant to support 4 Ohms products. Another trick I learned from Zeos is to use foam yoga blocks as cheap speaker stands. Luckily these speakers fit almost perfectly on on my black yoga blocks when I stand them up so the cheap substitute stands don't look out of place at all. Standing on the 4" yoga blocks these speakers line up almost perfectly with a 27 inch monitor or TV. These 4 inch speakers compete with my larger Dayton Audio speakers and also the cheap but huge 8" 3-way Monoprice speakers. You may be able to find some better products that producer stronger low frequencies for a similar price to two of these but anything else you find would almost certainly have a bigger frootprint and take up more space on a desk.

I use a pair of these as a stereo pair in my bedroom hanging on each side of my 42in tv at the foot of the bed. Using these in stereo standing up vertically, these are some of the best speakers that you can buy for the money. Crystal clear sound that's very articulate, and phenomenal imaging. I have been using them like this for 2 years paired with a 15in sub to cover the low end. I wouldn't hesitate to buy 5 of these for a full home theater setup.

Good and clear sound especially human voices/dialogues, value for money.

I got first the center channel 42mxc ,was already a great improvement , I was looking for the 42MBx model to match the center , but since they are out stock a while ago I decided to go for the RB model they are small and on the limit to be still able to use the same Sanus stands ( I was planning to drill and put Threaded Inserts for Wood ) but instead I used gorilla tape for mounting on the small Sanus base and worked great ), about the sound , I have a small apartment so is more than enough , the sound is great and complemented with a small Sony sub the whole system is excellent I don’t like overwhelming bass shadowing the rest of the sound ,I use a Marantz NR 1403 receiver that gives me 50W per channel @8 ohms, the volume is at 70 units most the time the max is 98 units of volume which I haven’t reach , , the LFE for the sub is at 100Hz , I will try later an old AV Sony receiver a( still analog )that I use only for music but has twice the power to see how the system behave using the Marantz’s preamp output , the system works great but I think more power will give more control of the speakers, my wife and I noticed the improvement, many times we can distinguish if the background music or sounds comes from the “TV” or is a sound coming from our place or from outside.

The vocals from this center speaker is so clear and crisp. it's loud enough for a small to medium room. It's nicely constructed and doesn't feel like a cheap product from the outside. You will definitely not be disappointed for the money you spent. Worth every penny.
