D.S. & Durga Breakfast Leipzig by DS & Durga for Unisex - 7 oz Candle

I stumbled across this candle while searching for a candle that smelled comfortable and cozy without being sickeningly sweet. The description on the D.S. & Durga website was amazing, and I made it my mission to find and smell this candle. After months of stopping by every store that claimed to sell D.S. & Durga items and smelling some of their other scents (but not Breakfast Leipzig) I decided to pull the trigger and buy the candle scent unsniffed. It really does smell like "tightly packed tables of people breakfasting over buttery almond pastries and strong coffee. Smoking pipes, reading newspapers, talking. Creamers of milk, kitchen steam, tobacco clouds, a hint of an old fireplace in the corner, and burgundy leather upholstery on the seats." (This is the website description that sparked my obsession). I'm not going to lie, this is an expensive candle. This is a candle that made me question a lot of my life choices, particularly the choice to spend a week's grocery budget on a candle. That said, I have been using this candle with a candle warmer and after four months of warming this candle more days than not and basking in a house that smells like an 18th century cafe I have barely made a dent in the burn time. The hot throw (which is a term I learned while trying to decide if I am a person who buys luxury candles) comfortably fills the 1,000 square foot floor that I burn the candle on, and I can get hints of the scent on the floor above. The smell is not overwhelming, and the vibes are classy and understated. I get more coffee and leather than anything else, but there is a lovely buttery-sweet scent that hits at the end of a good sniff. Overall, this candle is lovely and evokes the exact mood I was going for when I found it.

My favorite DSD candle hands down but not for everyone as I think some people think it smells weird. The DSD candles are pricey yes, but they generally are high quality and the company customer service is solid.

It smells like a grandfather’s library, with leather chairs and pipe tobacco. It’s everything I was looking for. Very Dark Academia.

This may be one of my favorite candle scents ever. The coffee and almond against tobacco, leather, and smoke checks all the boxes for me. Why 3 stars, then? A candle in this price range--especially for its small size--is a splurge. But the label on the votive itself is a cheap black & white sticker, and was clumsily applied (crooked and bubbled), making it look like something from the dollar store. It's a small detail, but you expect those details to be attended to in a high-end candle.

I get mostly tobacco with this candle. I can smell a little bit of a buttery scent from time to time, but was hoping more of the notes would come through, especially the strong coffee one. Just okay, especially for the price point. Would not repurchase.
