I loved his other books so I bought this one, but I got something I didn't expect...
A couple of quick bullet points- This book is HARDCOVER- This book is a A LOT bigger than I thought it was gonna be- The art in this book is SO UNIQUE and creative- The book is will make you HURT from laughter- The book is A FOUNTAIN of movie trivia and smart debate launch padsEverything I've mentioned so far are things that I expected in one way or another. The thing that I fully didn't expect from Movies and Other Things, how it might make me feel... and think. When Shea's discussing the MCU with his boys (I have 3 sons of my own), there was definitely a nostalgic element to it and an "ah, that's really cute" vibe. But several of the footnotes connected to me in a way that started making me think about bigger things like what I'm going to start imprinting on my boys now that they'll remember after I'm gone. Like the disconnect between Tony Stark and a bird dying. Why did one stick with them or affect them more than another? And how Coco made them cry, but Tony Stark passing away didn't.I still remember the day I told my son that his great grandmother had passed away, and how I slowly watched his heart break into a million different pieces. Will he feel the same way when I'm gone? Or will I be Tony Stark?Anyway... I've probably said too much for an Amazon Review, but buy this book. There are a lot more places throughout it that will give your brain and heart some space to explore very important questions. And you'll laugh. A lot.

Love What You Love More, Find More To Love
While Shea will never top his now legendary "The ‘If I Fought This Rapper, Would I Win?’ Chart" article from 2014, here we have his 3rd NYT Best Seller based around movies. If you have read Shea and like him and haven't bought this, you may as well turn in your FOH Army Card. If you haven't read Shea, then buy the book, read it, and now you can be part of the FOH Army. That's how it works. I think. There have never actually been any posted rules of entry. Not even sure if I'm in. I just started saying I was.Anyway, I could babble more (a lot more), but instead I'll tell you a story. I bought this book and when I got it I tore through it until I got to the Booksmart section. I skipped that because I hadn't seen it yet. Shea must've liked it, I surmised, if he put it in the book. I read the rest of the book and vowed to watch soon. The week I got the book I went back onto disability related to my Bipolar Depression. I spent a week or so just absolutely crushed. One night I saw the book and flipped through it and I felt a little better, then I came back to the Booksmart section. So I put it on.The movie was amazing.I read the section.Shea nailed it.So buy this book and see what he nails for you. Then go read the "The ‘If I Fought This Rapper, Would I Win?’ Chart" article. Because it is very helpful if you ever thought about fighting Pitbull.

Greatness
Really enjoyed this book. It was funny, heartwarming and also very informative. Also, it gives me a list of movies that I need to watch and also some to rewatch from a new point of view

5 stars and I haven't seen 80% of these movies
I have to preface this by saying that I'm terrible at watching movies, and while I can't expect the kind of insights I garnered from Basketball and Other Things (i.e. whether Karl Malone or a bear would fare better if they swapped places for the 1997 NBA season), I thoroughly enjoy Shea's writing. So here we go.What's the best gangster movie moment? Hell if I know, I've literally never watched more then 3 minutes of any Godfather movie. The Avengers? Haven't seen any of those either. That's why this book is so much fun. You don't have to have a deep knowledge of movie history (well, post-1980 movie history) to enjoy the connections Shea makes throughout the book (and, of course, Arturo's brilliant illustrations). Each chapter is also really brief, so when you have ten minutes, you can rip through a chapter without having to get stuck in the middle of a thought.I would strongly recommend buying this book so that Shea can write more books and I can read more books.

You're on the fence about buying this book? FOH.
Do you like movies? Do you like other things? Do you like written words? Do you like art?If you answered yes to any of these questions, just go ahead and pick up this book. You won't be disappointed. New York Times Best Selling Author Shea Serrano (6'3") delivers the goods with this epic tome. Don't take my word for it, just smash that buy button and find out for yourself. But what if you don't like books? I'm not sure why you're reading the reviews for a book if you don't like books or reading, but hey, smash that buy button anyway. Just put this book on a table or bookshelf and let people know how smart, funny, and good-looking you are. This book sends that message.Even if you don't want people to think you're smart, funny, and good-looking you should still buy this book. Why? Because Shea is one of the best people around, and this book is cool, and we should all be supporting cool people doing cool things.

Fantastic
Extremely fun and well written. Shea’s MAOT is entertaining because he is able to capture his excitement on a topic in such a way that you can’t help but feel excited about it as well. It doesn’t matter if you care about heist movies to start a chapter, by the end of it you’ll be going over an extraction plan using condiment containers on your kitchen counter. It’s a very select group of authors that can make me laugh out loud and/or tear up* while reading their work, Shea has made that list.* See his and Larami’s** A Wedding Thing (The One)**Shea and Larami are married if you couldn’t guess from the title******this book has a lot of footnotes so figured the review should have some as well
