Great Book! Informative and Entertaining.
I received this gem of a book yesterday and am halfway through it on a quick first read ( will be going back through to concentrate on all of the exercises next). I have to say that , just as in the other Chris Crowley “Younger Next Year” books, this one maintains the same superior informative and entertaining quality. Dr. Jeremy James’s descriptions of the measures most of us can take to heal our back pain are written in a clear and to the point way. He is able to easily guide the reader through each of his chapters and exercises and in the end, the reader will come away having gained important knowledge about his back and the ways to heal it in an entertaining way. One last observation : If you have not read the Younger Next Year book series, do it. Mr. Crowley’s writing style reminds me very much of C.S. Lewis.

Good advice... could be much better
I have been reading through the book for a couple of weeks and trying the exercises. They're great and the authors are good writers. Overall, it's a great package of solid advice. It acts like a back pain "manual" without going too deep into things. For that reason, I appreciate a small and concise book like this. You can easily thumb through it and find what you need especially when doing the exercises every day.But here's what I can't stand—it's this attitude that seems to be so common among therapists and doctors—the narrative that patients do "dumb" things. The doctor's rule #1 is "Stop Doing Dumb Stuff". Practitioners need to do away with this kind of language. I mean, as a fellow human being, are you really going to tell me that the physical stress my body goes through on a daily basis is a result of my "dumbness"? I have small children, endless household chores, and a desk job... yes, those things are hard on my back and yes, I have made mistakes. But am I actually a dumb person to be dealing with these problems? On its face, a statement that begins with a negative ("stop doing...") is less helpful for a solid growth-mindset. It would be much more helpful to remind yourself to do a specific, better thing instead.

Great book for back issues
We highly recommend this book for people with back problems. It includes exercises for creating a strong back and helping with sciatica problems. Anytime anyone says they have back issues, we give them this book.

Love YNY Series: Aging Happens
I read Younger Next Year when it was first published. Recommended it to all who over-exercise, believe it or not. While far from perfect in sticking with its recommendations, being active in sport and recreation has always played a role in my life. And, I have done it all ... horseback riding, running, tennis, golf, riding a back, playing soccer and basketball with my sons ... all fun, but hurting. At 64, finding golf injuries frustrating, it was time to renew my convictions. Here comes the Back Book! How timely! Over the years, when your back hurts, you will try anything. Tapes, Pilates, braces, pills, exercises ... on and on. All have worked to a varying degrees. At this stage of life, other than select supplements, I don't like medicines of any kind. Had maybe one flu shot. My immunity is the best of my life, probably because I ended air travel. Never understood cholesterol-reducing drugs. Never taken them. They made no sense. When I asked how they worked, no doc pushed them. Thank goodness. Cholesterol, you know, can be good for the brain. However, aerobic exercise, diet, and enjoying sport all make sense. There's the reality of arthritis. Strangely, my hip, where it first began, has improved since 50. I don't really know why. Probably less golf. Golf puts serious hurt on a body. Many parts. None are more concerning than the back.YNY is fantastic. I re-started, with some modified Sprint 8 interval training workouts, and added the Back Book. What a delightful discussion. The authors are masters of brevity. Chris's humor is still there. Because I don't want to spend my life exercising ... the Back Book fits the bill. An easy read. Makes sense. For all of my life, I have been a sloucher. My mother's voice rings in my ears. Stand up straight. When I do the dishes nightly, I always wondered why my back hurt. Guess what? I slouch. Use my spine. For no other reason, buy this book for the grape fruit. Yes, when you read it, you will get it. This has changed my life. I now know where neutral is. Someday it will become a habit because of these authors. Thank you, guys.

Highly recommend this book for back pain sufferers!
A friend recommended this book - we have both read other books in the "Younger Next Year" series and I've only had it a few days and have already been recommending it to a lot of friends who also have back pain. Although I regularly see an chiropractor/acupuncturist and take a weekly Scoliosis Pilates classes, I always felt like there was something I must be doing wrong with my posture, etc. but I could never quite figure it out. Turns out there was - this book has already provided a lot of new information and I am already feeling better. I love the way it is written and signed up for the 10 week program through the coordinating backforever.com website hoping to heal my back and get on the right track - finally.

Well, this was a disappointment
I wish before I wasted money on this book that I had known it would only have one page on my issue (stenosis) and no real help for it but one exercise anyone can see on Youtube. If you have stenosis, don’t bother with this book. If you want help (besides seeing the doctor), go to Youtube and google exercises for it.
