Nice size, even light, well made
I bought this to make stencils for a variety of scrollsaw projects, including portraits. I use Coyote Stencil Shop 3 to produce a preliminary stencil from a photograph, then trace the outlines of that stencil to give me a precise cutting stencil. I then copy the cutting stencil and fill in the areas I will cut out with the scrollsaw so I can see what the finished product will look like before I begin. It is much easier to be precise in my cutting if I use the outline stencil rather than a filled-in stencil as I can see more clearly exactly where the blade is cutting if I am using the outlines. The light is not harsh but is quite bright enough to clearly trace even with heavier papers. The edge clips that hold the plastic front in place have just enough room so you can slip a couple of sheets of paper under the clips to hold papers firmly in place while you work with the unit. While the design slopes from top to bottom with the assumption that you'll be using it in a landscape format, I find I can use it in a portrait format just as well and the slope is not at all bothersome. I'm very happy with this light box and would highly recommend it.

Great device!
Great device!!!!!!!easy on/off button on back panel. Lights up well! I use it to put my calligraphy line paper on top of it then the specialty paper. I can easily see the lines underneath keeping each character in line and spaced evenly. Now here is the thing...vertically it's just under 10 inches so don't expect a regular sheet of paper to fit flush- you'll have to adjust the paper. Perfect for cards. One last thing you can rotate LIGHT TRACER TO FIT the paper but you'll be working at a slight angle (could feel awkward) length is 12 inches. Hope this helps

Great investment- has many uses for a genealogist as well as an artist!
I bought this to make a watercolor map of Tokyo in the years 1948-1950. It's been an incredibly involved project- as finding maps from that time with the particular buildings on it that I need has been difficult. It is SO easy to use, and is quite bright, which is great for my poor eyes. I love it. I'm making the map to include in a scrapbook I made for my father who was in General MacArthur's Honor Guard stationed in Japan for 3 years. Over 2 years I sorted, laid out, and finished about 80 pages of photos, so I bought a MASSIVE amount of products/supplies to use in the endeavor. This item is, hands down, the single BEST investment of the entire project- I've laid difficult to read documents on it, and was able to make out things no one else could. (Came in handy on some discharge papers and other things from 1950.)

Surprisingly decent'ish
We had a big, old, clunky, steel-cased light table that worked really well, but was unmanageably big and heavy. This table was intended to be a supplement to it- something smaller for smaller work and something relatively portable to allow for relocation when necessary. As other reviews have indicated, it is NOT a tank- it is cheap plastic through and through. It flexes a bit when you press or lean on it and I really don't know how the housing would survive a four inch fall, BUT for the cost, it works fine. The backlight will not blind you by any stretch, but it is bright enough to carry through most work pieces. The light is better-distributed throughout the table than I thought it would be. Yes, there is a hot spot at the bulb location that cools toward the edges, but it's not bad. It is very light which is good if you don't leave it setup somewhere- light enough you can use it on your lap, although likely not recommended. I believe it is manufactured in the US, so that's a plus for those of us that love our country and try to think in domestically-sustainable terms!

Look no further, this box is excellent.
I have wanted a light box for as long as I can remember. I used to have one that was made for kids, when I was little, and honestly I think it's what helped me develop my skills at such a young age. Eventually my parents got rid of it since it took up so much room. I used to keep it on the living room floor and sit there all day with it. Anyway, for a while I've been browsing the internet for the perfect light box. There are so many varieties and such a wide price range so it's hard to decide. I was originally going go with a big, flat, high-tec looking one that was over $100. But I decided to go with this one to avoid breaking the bank. I do not regret my decision to go with Artograph at all, but I wish I would've spent a little more to get a slightly bigger surface. All in all, this is a great product and spending over $50 more on a better looking device would have been pointless. Maybe in the future when I have a better income I will get more expensive equipment, but I probably won't even replace this one until it stops working. The light is bright and easily goes through thick mixed media paper. Edit: since then, even Crayola has made a better light box only for $20 I think. Flatter ones are better because you don’t have to worry about wrinkling the paper if it happens to be bigger than the surface of the light box.

For wedding envelope help? This thing's the best!
I volunteered to learn calligraphy and address my daughter's wedding invitation envelopes. I found out that one of the tricks for successful envelopes is to use guidelines under the envelope and a lightbox. I went to the art store to purchase the lightbox, but the ones I found at the art store cost way too much. A year earlier at my church's thrift sale, I had bought an old metal lightbox that had been used to view x-rays, but it was big and heavy, and ugly and didn't inspire me to come home and practice with it after a long brutal day at work. I found instructions on how to build light boxes which would have been a fun project, but that's time I needed to spend on this OTHER project of practicing the calligraphy! Then I remembered that you can find most anything you can want on Amazon.com, and sure enough, LIGHTBOXES! This one is great! I recommend it. There was a smaller one available, but I like the size of this one, since it's more like writing on a desk, and I "mask" the extra lighted area with a piece of cardboard so it doesn't shine in my eyes while I practice on envelope-sized scatch-paper. I've already used it to write some of the escort cards, and now I'm practicing writing the names and addresses with it until the invitations arrive. I've also been working on making a map for the guests to find the venue, by tracing a boring map and adding my own little touches and landmarks. This box is light, and cute, and has a long enough cord so that I'm not tied to the wall plug! It has a handy little off-on switch on one side. I'm going to see about getting an inexpensive tilting laptop computer stand to put underneath it as a desk. I think with these ideas, my project will be a piece of cake! I love the little lightbox and can imagine using it just for fun after the wedding is just a fond memory. When I finish the envelopes I'm going to try my hand at making a pretty marriage certificate with maybe some pressed flowers, and put it in a frame for a gift for my daughter and new son-in-law.(If I get good enough at this, maybe I'll try using calligraphy as a side-job! I hear you can make upwards of $3 an envelope if you're doing it for somebody who isn't your next of kin! Sweet!!!) Wish me luck!

Gets the job done while away from the home [animation] studio
This product doesn't get a straight 5 stars because of a minor portability flaw. It does fit in my bag, but it's a bit tight - I use a leather briefcase. I'm just glad it fits at all given how thick it is (there are thinner lightboxes out there, but this one came highly reviewed). The light is bright enough to see through the amount of pages I use (2-4 at a time). It's super light, I don't even realize it's in my bag. Paired up with a thin metal ACME peg bar (taped at the bottom) and I have myself a functional animation workstation. I've been using this kind of set up for a couple of weeks now and it's a godsend. I'd recommend this product if you need a portable animation station in a pinch or while on the go.

Good for tracing ... not for negative viewing
Its a box and it lights up. Its probably good for what is name implies ... tracing things. However, I bought it for viewing negatives and I would NOT recommend it for that as the lighting is too uneven. The bulb claims to be a daylight fluorescent, but the opaque perspex cover messes up the transmitted light. Otherwise its well made and arrived week packaged and working.

Easy to use, strong light.
Just a simple, easy to use light box. The kid enjoys this light box for tracing, drawing and as a nightlight! Great value for the money as other boxes have been known to cost more.

Artograph review
Great product. Larger working area would be helpful, but I do like the concept and the light level is very good for the purpose of tracing.
