Makes for some mighty fine a pickin' and a singin'.
Well good Lord now. I started on a Deering Goodtime II, which has been my baby for seven years. I was perfectly content with me Deering, but one day, I was stricken by a disturbing thought; perhaps my neighbors were not receiving the full experience of living by me? The thought occurred as some rapscallion drove by, blaring Jay-D or Dr. J or some bogus artist. I decided then and there that I needed an electric banjo to spread the joy of me. I searched for an electric banjo that wouldn't break the bank ( and even though I love them, damn Mumford and Sons for making electric banjos that much more popular). Low and behold, this magnificent Dean Acoustic/Electric presented itself. Knowing I only have a few precious years left where I can spend frivolously without major wife consequences, I bought this faster than MC Hammer enthusiasts buy parachute pants. Two short weeks later I was laying down some sweet Appalachian chords so loud my local Sheriff's Department could enjoy them. The fact that I was incarcerated and fined for disturbance of the peace is totally unrelated.TL;DR this banjo melts some serious faces, and everyone should own one. If it were a beer, I would freeze it in the Winter to skate on it, then melt it in the Spring so I could drink it. ALL GLORY TO THE DEAN BACKWOODS 2.

It's not the instrument for everyone--ladies of XL size but petite hands, take note
If you have small hands or a small lap (big belly/small lap?) you might find a banjo too heavy unless you already know how to play. I couldn't learn to form chords because the heavy end keeps trying to slip off my lap. I kept trying and kept ending up frustrated. This instrument has super sound and I'm sure most people could happily start playing it. Maybe a strap or different chair would have helped but I used up my options. Think twice or try one locally or you'll end up sending it back. On the bright side Amazon is about to receive one in great condition, perfectly assembled and I hope someone else will love it. Musical instruments need love too.

IT STAYS IN TUNE!
It sounds too much like a guitar while it's amplified. I'm sure some tweaking or better knowledge of eq settings would fix it. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied.

I don't know squat about the banjo but this one is a good fit for me. The bridge is not installed on the drum and you will need to loosen the strings to put it in place. That requires you to retune from scratch, but that is half the fun in the learning process. To assist I bought the Banjo for Dummies book, shiny picks, and a digital tuner.Let the adventure begin!!

Good looking great sounding banjo
Love it! It's my first banjo but not my first Dean. Set up and tuning was easy. Fitting the bridge was no problem. The banjo sounds great and is great great to look at. I haven't seen a dark wood banjo before. Love the acoustic electrics feature running tha banjo through a flanger is fun.
