Absolute perfection in indoor air quality (Update @ 4years)
I own two of these, and can't reccomend them enough. Like other "True HEPA" products - the labeling of which is an industry agreement - this really does meet HEPA standards and it really gets the trick done.I used to work in a beat-up, old, bank-owned (and thus poorly-maintained) office building. I have allergies to almost everything outside or inside, especially mold, plus allergy-induced asthma, and so after going through a box of Kleenex a day my first week on the job, I decided to purchase my second one of these for my office. I brought it in, set it up, and left it running all night after I left. When I came in the next day and sat down, I was breathing clear and free all day. I didn't have allergy problems at work for the next year before I left the company. My first one was purchased for a crappy, mold-ridden, graduate-student-affordable apartment with a miserable landlord who didn't clean the place before I moved in, and it did the trick there so I could not nearly choke to death in my sleep from a constricted/inflamed airway.Buy two, they're worth every penny. Remember that it's good for a single large bedroom, it won't do a whole house.Update @ 4 years of ownership: The first one has now been running almost continuously (at a low level) for about 4 years, the second one for about 2.5 years. They're both doing great, and continuing to REALLY help me with my allergies.I think, to an extent, they're almost too good, in that I live in a clean zone and can occasionally struggle on high-allergen days outside. I've noticed a similar thing with my fiance who moved in with me a few months back; she's been struggling with her allergies a little more after moving in, despite it being cleaner, possibly because these are so effective but she bikes to work so gets exposed to other things outdoors, and its Florida so there's not even a winter to eliminate the allergens outside. I think its a stuck-between-two-extremes sort of deal. All that being said, 1) I'm not a medical professional, so who knows if that is right 2) I'd much rather have such a situation since my normal allergies are so terrible. These purifiers have been a true miracle for me, and are probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. I've even loaned them out to people to let them experience it and it's usually convinced them to buy their own. Well worth every penny.

Cleans Air Fast
This is the 3rd Holmes air purifier I have purchased. One of my others, over 5 years old, just pooped out. about 2 months ago I bought a different brand, thinking I'd save some money. That was a mistake! This Holmes purifier is just designed better. I have a lot of allergies and other health issues, and filtering my home air has really helped me in terms of waking up in the morning with more energy and just being able to breathe more clearly and deeply overall. This new one is in my bedroom, and it makes a big difference for me.

good filter...bad airflow
I bought this to replace a Holmes small tower fan for next to my bed and computer equipment. I figured, since I ran the fan 24/7, running an air purifier would be a better idea and use of electricity. I also seriously needed to cut down on the amount of dust in the room. i also have sensitive airways and seasonal allergies...not to mention the heavy smoker that lives in the apartment below me.The True Hepa filter is great, and I purchased it because it is better than a Hepa-type....However, it does not let nearly as much airflow through as a hepa-type filter does. On this model, low- I can't feel any air at all, med- slight, gentle breeze to about 3 inches from the front grill, High- only slightly more of a breeze than med..can feel to about 5 inches out the front. No where close to the airflow of a straight fan...remove the filter..world of difference. The sound level is very much similar to the tower fan it replaced....low- silent, med- very tolerable..however, High- much louder than med, for very little more airflow. I run it on med normally.I have been running this Pure Hepa model for a few days now, despite the lack of noticeable airflow, DEFINITELY an improvement in air quality. I can breathe much better...I feel better. However, the purpose of this purchase was to replace a fan...so I needed an air filter with decent airflow..I went to a local store and purchased this model: Holmes HAP9412B-U Small Room HEPA-type Air PurifierThat model has a Hepa-type filter...much better airflow...much more like the small tower fan it was replacing...I can actually feel a foot a way on med setting...blow very well on high. Sound of that unit is comparable to the Pure Hepa unit.I noticed that Holmes has changed the scheme of selling their replacement filters...the two mentioned models in this review have interchangeable filters. The AER series of filters. The unit I purchased on my local store included this filter: Holmes HAPF30AT Total Air with Dust Eliminator HEPA-Type Air Filter...this filter, and its counterparts, fit in both of the units I have purchased...If u put the hepa-type filter in the HAP706-U model, u get much better air flow, but loose the Pure Hepa feature...the filter that goes in the Pure Hepa HAP706-U is: Holmes HAPF300AH Allergen Remover True HEPA Air Filter....its kinda confusing at first...as the manual and their own website still has the original series/models of replacement filters listed and not their updated line of filters.
