Simple, compact, and fast
This is a great fax machine. It's sleek, and compact, making it easy to place on any desk. It's made by HP, people known to make printers (in fact, my current all in one printer is by HP), so you know you're getting a good fax machine. The price! It's one of the main things that drew me in! It's so darn cheap for what it is! Ok, perhaps this isn't a high end office fax, but for home, this thing is near perfect! It even uses printer ink cartridges which are easy to buy and find, instead of those fax printing films that are expensive and can be found in certain places. Not to mention they print real quick; receives and sends faxes in a instant, while keeping quiet! Now for the cons. The fax can only hold 15 8.5x11 standard papers. That may seem a bit on the low side for some people. Also, it has a small LCD screen and a few buttons for system navigation. This perhaps maybe very frustrating. Especially for those that aren't on the machine/computer literate side. Lastly, there's no answering machine. I suppose this is optional, but I was so use to my old fax machine having one, that I was kinda disappointed to find that this one didn't have one. Overall though, it's for home faxing, I must say, this thing is a steal

My new HP fax machine
This product was easy to install without any help and the first try was a success. The fax was received clearly and it also makes real good copies. It works a lot faster than our old fax machine. The price was also very reasonable. Sincerely, Camille S.

Before it goes back in the box. . . .
I am about to repackage this fax machine to return it to Amazon. Seems like a perfectly decent fax machine, except for the fact that the tiny toner cartridge that is mean to be clicked into place inside the machine doesn't appear to fit or sit anywhere. After a useless call to HP (somewhere in New Delhi, India) I am returning the product and, I suppose will be getting another one. The point is, this one sucks, if only for the simple reason that you can't set it up properly without elevating your blood pressure and wanting to chuck thing from your balcony.

Reliable, but scans are pixilated.
I bought this Fax machine to replace a HP1040 Fax machine, as the HP1040 was recalled (see my review for the HP 1040 Fax). Pros: This is a handy, relatively inexpensive machine that fills my very occasional need to do some photocopying and faxing. Cons: The quality of received faxes are acceptable, but the quality of scans for photocopying or faxing is less than optimal. The pixilation is rather obvious. If you need a machine that requires good quality copies, you should look at paying the higher price for higher quality. For my infrequent needs, this gets me by.

Pro Quality FAX is Great
Have had this machine for a few weeks now and use it often. It is perfect for sending documents, etc. to and from Doctors or Businesses that require a FAX or that can not send you an e-mail due to confidentiality rules. The only drawback that I have found is the included ink cartridge is only a starter so I had to buy a regular one. It should last a very long time but HP could do better by including a real one with the FAX. Had one like this at my office and it never gave any trouble so I purchased it to use here at home. The quality is excellent on the output print and the features are all useful. It does not have a "received tray" but a cardboard tab to catch the incoming FAX under the machine does the job if it's on a shelf. On a table or desk, that is no issue. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone needing a home FAX machine at a reasonable cost. Just go ahead and bite the bullet and buy a regular cartridge when you get it and you're done.

So simple. Feature packed!
Very simple to operate. I bought this for my senior father, who likes technology as long as it's SIMPLE. This HP fax machine is VERY simple. Loading paper, changing toner cartridges, and sending faxes is easy. I set up the machine in less than 10 minutes and programmed my fax number into the speed dial (I'm the only person he faxes). Great machine. Great price. Has more features than he'll ever need (broadcast fax, delayed fax, speed dial directory), but easy enough to perform basic fax functions.

Fantastic Fax Machine
This is a great little fax machine. I am refinancing my home and working on becoming the administrator for my elderly mothers affairs and I have found that banks prefer that you fax rather than email documents because of their size. After one trip to the bank to use their fax machine I decided to purchase my own. It was up and running in a matter of minutes. It is compact and fits in a cubbyhole in my computer hutch and doesn't take up much space.

Never worked and is defective
I bought this last year because I needed a good middle of the road fax machine on short notice and the reviews at the time seemed halfway decent. Bad mistake. The out of box setup was simple enough, but after that I ended up wasting a whole day and a half trying to get it to fax to the test number and that never worked. You could hear it dialing out but it never gave me a conformation. I then tried to fax to the number I was in a hurry to give information to and that didn't work either. So I had to drive 5 miles and pay $12 at a copy place to get my document faxed in a hurry! The problem seems to be that the pages scan but there is no data transfer to the receiver whatsoever. I am completely disgusted with this fax machine, the lack of HP customer service help, and with Amazon.com for not allowing me to return it. Now it is an expensive $70 paperweight! Beware of this fax machine!

Ideal for small spaces
This phone/fax/copier is ideal if space is limited. Its footprint is more compact than most machines with these features. We needed to replace our previous (Panasonic) machine after 16 years (yes, we like to hold onto things until they really breakdown). I was concerned that such machines might not be available any longer, given the speed of 'buy, use, dump it' mentality prevalent with so many purchases these days. When I saw this one advertised (and it is plain paper, instead of thermal roll like our last one), I knew it was the one for us. We trust HP for its proven quality (our PC, laptop, printer, and netbook are all HP). We were not disappointed. I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because I haven't had need to receive a fax yet, so I can't give a proper evaluation of that feature yet, but 'stay tuned', once we do receive a fax, I'll amend this review.
