In what way is this filter diffrrent (better?) than the gac-20bb? for whole house chlorine removal before a water softener.

These are both carbon filters, and will fit the same housings, the main difference is how they are constructed, which affects the performance. RFC20-BB filters offer a radial flow design which greatly reduces the pressure drop (RFC20-BB is rated at 0.9 psi pressure drop at 4 gpm, while the GAC-20BB you are comparing to is rated at 10 psi pressure drop @ 4gpm). The RFC20-BB filters also have a higher filtration capacity. RFC20-BB are rated at >100,000 gallons of chlorine taste and odor reduction at 4gpm, while the GAC-20BB are rated at 25,000 gallons.

Would this work with other 20 x 4.5 filter systems, like a replacement for an american plumber wrc25hd20?

This filter is 1/2 " longer then the old one will it still work?

This filter is designed to fit into the 10 inch Big Blue filter housings which is similar in size to most other 10 inch heavy duty filter housings. We have not made changes to the length of these cartridges, so if you had this model previously, it should still fit correctly. Not knowing what specific housing you have, I cannot for certain tell if this cartridge will fit. Is this good enough for a spotless car wash filter?

The RFC can be used as pretreatment for equipment that actually provides spotless rinse. This filter in itself does not provide spotless rinse.
