These are the best quality hand warmers on the market
When you are looking for hand warmers, you'll get presented with a number of different options. Let me tell you right away--steer clear from the "disposable" hand warmer packs. They don't feel very nice, they don't retain heat very long, and their only redeeming quality is that you get a LOT of them for a few bucks. I honestly never used them again after getting these reusable hand warmers. THE GOOD: -Heat Wave makes the best hand warmers that I have yet found on the market, and I have tried a good number! The quality of the plastic is KEY. Lesser plastics (clear or thin ones) are all over the market, but those are more likely to rupture as you're using them and even when you are boiling them to "reset." -These retain their heat very, very well. According to my experiment, these quickly got up to a temperature of 130 degrees F and held it there for over 20 minutes. -These are a great size to hold in your hand. This adds an added benefit of making them easier to move around and agitate the crystals inside. More agitation means more and longer heat! The OKAY: -These are expensive. That's not a bad thing when it directly goes into a better, longer lasting product. -Every 4 or 5 of these seems to be an oddball pack that still does its job, but it takes a bit longer to "reset" when boiling, it doesn't stay as malleable, and doesn't hold its heat as long The BAD: -Even these, the best brand I have found of hand warmers, can break after repeated use. In general, I am able to get about two years of weekly use out of them before they risk breakage. That comes out to about 100 uses before failure, which is not bad but certainly not perfect -Not energy efficient. Yes, you get free/repeatable heat, but you have to boil water for 20 minutes every time you want to reset them. It's worth getting 4 or 5 of these so that you can batch the boils, but that's still a considerable amount of heat and energy that goes into them. All-in-all, this is the best brand of reusable hand warmers and the most useful (and longest lasting) size of the same. I have purchased these multiple times, and the vast majority of them retain their heat, flexibility, and use for years on end. 5 stars!

WORK GREAT! PERFECT SIZE! REUSABLE! LOVE THEM!
I have no idea what the 1, 2, and 3 star reviewers were expecting, but whatever it was, they apparently need to learn to read product descriptions before buying things on Amazon. These warmers are NON-ELECTRIC CHEMICAL BASED hand warmers. Not an electric heating pad or electric blanket, for goodness sakes. The warmers I received measure 4.5 x 3 x 3/4 inches, and are some kind of nice heavy duty vinyl bag filled with a liquid green gel. There is a round bi-metal disk (like the little toy clickers you may have played with as a kid) floating around in the gel, with a white rubber shield around it to prevent it from cutting the vinyl. You "activate" the gel so that it heats up through some chemical reaction to the friction from the disk, by clicking the disk inside the bag. Mine activated with just ONE CLICK. When you activate them, the clear liquid gel suddenly begins to cloud up, turning to an off-white pliable crystal mass that is amazingly warm almost immediately. Mine immediately heated up to 122 degrees F. It was perfectly pliable so that it could EASILY be wrapped around the curved of my hands, knees, neck, elbow, you name it. And when they were no longer creating heat, I simply followed the instructions and boiled them for a few minutes till all of the crystals turned to green liquid again and they were ready to use again. In fact, the next day, I activated them again with the same results. GREAT PRODUCT! TOTALLY SATISFIED! BUYING MORE, ASAP! I plan on putting one in all of my emergency kits, BOB's etc., and give some to my kids. Temperature Chart of how the ones I received worked: At activation - 122 F - Very Pliable 5 minutes - 122 F - Very Pliable 10 minutes - 121 F - Very Pliable 15 minutes - 121 F - Very Pliable 20 minutes - 119 F - Less Pliable 25 minutes - 118 F - Slightly Stiff 30 minutes - 117 F - Much Stiffer 35 minutes - 114 F - Stiff 40 minutes - 105 F - STIFF 45 minutes - 102 F - TOTALLY STIFF Regarding all of the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews, no offense, people, but for goodness sakes, what did you expect them to do, melt the plastic envelope and stay warm for hours? If you want a warmer that can overcome zero degree winters, frozen hands, melt a hole in the ice so you can go ice fishing, and stay on for 12 hours, BUY AN ELECTRIC HEATING PAD for goodness sakes!

Great product
To clear up some confusion: The heat lasts about an hour if you leave them out in the cold air. If you want a longer duration, keep them in your pockets or something. They're too big to fit in mittens, but if you have a couple of these in your pockets you won't even need mittens. If the heat is only lasting 30 minutes, you probably didn't follow the instructions. After activating the pack you're supposed to squeeze and massage them until they are soft and malleable. This makes them more comfortable and makes them stay ho for longer. You need to boil them for about 15-20 minutes as per the instructions on the pack. That means about 5-10 minutes to get the water boiling and another 15-20 for all the crystals to dissolve. I just toss them in cold water and set a timer for 30 minutes. It's really easy. Compared to other similar products, these are very high quality. They are a great size both for use and to fit in a pot when you boil them. The pack is hearty and you don't have to take special precautions when boiling them. Other brands need to be wrapped in cloth or they will become damaged when touching the bottom of the pot. Other brands will also go off accidentally if you bump them too hard, but these seem to be well designed and only go off when you press the button. I got these for my wife, and her family was so impressed that I'm ending up ordering another pack to give as gifts.

and is feels softer and mire comfortable when held against the skin
These heat packs may be activated as needed, and can be used as hand warmers at football games, or as warm compresses if you have an injury. I once received a similar item as an exit gift from a charity event, so I had certain expectations for this item. However, I fell on the ice this winter, mand I was unable to find the warm pack I already owned, so I bought these as replacements. The prior warm packs heated to a higher temperature than the present ones - but that may be a positive change as it is still fairly hot but it is less likely to cause a skin burn. Also, the plastic packaging is considerably more pliable than the former product and it feels softer and more comfortable when held against the skin. All in all, I am very satisfied with these heat packs, and I would recommend them to others.

Great for Stye and Chalazion
I had an internal stye that I needed to treat with a 20-minute warm compress four times a day. The stye formed into a chalazion which needs another 4-6 weeks of compresses. Warming up a moist washcloth in microwave and holding on my eye was inconvenient and awkward while at work. I purchased a four-pack of these babies and wow, they work great. I cut an old hand towel into rectangles roughly the size of the heat pack. I dampen the cloth and activate the heat pack. It lasts more than 20 minutes. The packs have a little disk that you press til it activates. Then massage the gel that forms. So easy and convenient. The button is kind of hard to press just right so I have been moving the button to a corner and pressing on it with a non-sharp item (rounded handle of a comb, handle of kitchen scissors, etc). Having four is just enough to get me through the day. Contrary to other reviews, these work time after time with no problems. No leaking or failure to activate. Worth the price. Update: eventually (after more than a year) they started developing leaks.

Such hope but disappointed by defective product
I really wanted to like these. I loved everything about them: reusable, made in USA, would keep me warm this winter but alas.... they had to be returned. I followed the instructions to set them up exactly and nothing. I left them in the simmering water for over an hour and still nothing. I tried one at a time instead of all together: nothing. I tried everything I could think of and still nothing. Thankfully the return process was easy since them came from an Amazon warehouse. I don't know if I'll try again or not, I guess it depends on how cold this winter gets....

It works, but a slight problem...
So I recently bought a pair of these hand-warmers because of the weather and I could use a heat pack when I am outdoors or even indoors, heaven forbid. Anyways, when i had received them, they both were in liquid state, and I tested them out by activating them with a metal button in the packet. First, the button is a bit tough to push down, but can be pushed down if it is Firmly pushed. So that means i can probably store in my my bag or something and it probably won't activate without me knowing; which is a good and bad thing at the same time. Second, the heat, it was actually pretty warm, not as well as the disposable ones, but well enough to do the job. So these get an above average heat that won't burn your hands, but not last very long. Like it said, 2 hours if you keep it properly insulated like in snow gloves or so; otherwise, at most, you have an hour should you put it somewhere like your pocket. But what's the real disappointing point is the recharging part. It takes a bit of effort because it's RECOMMENDED that you put it in a towel or something to protect the plastic from burning, which is acceptable. But, if you don't do it properly, it will activate on it's own and you have to try to reheat it again. But after I did this, one of my hand-warmers activated on its own, but still worked, so happy. However, my other one is now in a liquid state, but won't activate or anything. I've tried to reheat it, but it does nothing. So after a single recharge it broke, but I think that I have a faulty product, not a product that failed to do what it does. So I am going to return these products and ask for a proper replacement, but I would still buy these if you need hand-warmers, just keep a return label handy for insurance. On another note, the hand warmers are a bit big, even for me about the size of a dollar folded in half (It is slightly bigger than this), not top to bottom, but left to right.

Handy hand warmers
Fascinating technology - click this little button inside the bag and almost instantly you have quite significant heat to warm hands, strained muscles etc. These things work quite well. And an hour later, when they are stiff and cool, you boil them for 15 minutes and they are rejuvenated, ready to go again. In practice, the quantity of heat begins to diminish steadily after activation - after an hour they are almost room temp. For my customary one hour dog walks this works out OK. I just delay activating them until my hands start to get cold and there is sufficient heat in them to finish my walk. These are quite superior to the platinum catalyst lighter fluid warmer that I used for several years.

Great for pain management
Very well made heating pack. Sealed well, durable, and lightweight. The size may be a bit smaller than the dimensions given. Great for small areas, and medical purposes. I like the plastic coated metal disk inside that prevents puncturing the plastic. Heats up quickly and holds the heat for a long time at room temperature.

4 Years Later...Still Going Strong
Background/Use: I first purchased a pair of these hand warmers for my wife for Christmas 2016 as a way to take the edge off the cold while she faithfully (& voluntarily, I may add) came and watched my hockey game once a week. I researched quite a few reusable heat packs, but out of fear of having them burst, went with this slightly more expensive option...and I am glad I did. These are quality! Warmth: These little heat packs pack a good punch when they are first activated (after 4 years still too hot to keep your bare skin against them for more than a few seconds at a time). My wife (sitting in a cold rink for about 1.5 hours) would keep these in her winter coat pockets and activate them when she started getting chilled and slide her hands in with them. She found at first that (if left in her insulated pockets) they would produce good heat for about half the time (45 min), then still be mildly warm for the rest. So to provide some extra longevity to the heat, I would boil them and stick them in her pockets hot, right before we left for the rink. That would add maybe another 30min or so of satisfying heat in the rink before she activated them. Durability/longevity: - Have used both packs probably upward of 100 times over 4 years. - I can notice no significant decline in warmth. - The medical grade vinyl still seems as supple and strong as the day I bought them. - The internal metal snap discs still work perfectly, every time. Cons?: Only two things I've noticed (both non-issues for me, seeing the heat packs work perfectly still): 1. Black floaties (see close-up photo). The black printed brand-name and instructions are printed on the inside of the heat packs. Over time, tiny little black specs started appearing in the solution, as fragments of the letters rubbed off internally. *Minimal, hardly noticable and do not affect use. 2. White floaties (see back-lit photo). Much more noticable than the black specks, but do not noticably affect use. I assume these are un-dissolvable sodium acetate crystals which do not dissolve when the solution reaches its maximum saturation threshold while boiling. One summer, we stored the heat packs in their crystalized (used) form for four months. That autumn, upon boiling them, the solution would never return to it's perfectly clear self again (as per instructions), no matter how long they were boiled. So I would recommend storing them in their post-boiled (liquid) state. *This has not affected them in any noticable way, other than make them look less attractive when boiled.

These are great!!
Bought these for someone who loves them for back pain, especially at bedtime to relax muscles. They're durable, they give off heat long enough to help the drifting off to sleep. Recommend!!
