This saw is really impressive. I prune a lot of shrubs and small trees. This thing will cut.

I bought one of these saws for my home years ago. I also own chainsaws and multiple bow saws but when it comes to pruning bushes and smaller tree branches this has become my go-to saw to use. These saws are incredibly sharp, and the shape works really well to easily cut with one hand. As further testimony to the quality of the saw, my 28 year old son, after borrowing mine a few times, asked to receive one as a Christmas present. He is officially an Eagle Scout, who spent a huge amount of time backpacking and camping in the woods, using bow saws for cutting firewood. But even he realized that when it comes to doing pruning of bushes and trees in your yard, you cannot beat this saw.

This has been my go-to pruning saw for awhile now. I do pruning and landscaping work on a part-time professional basis. The Corona way outperforms awkward bow saws, and it has faster cutting action than the other pruning saws I've tried. Just avoid cutting yourself with it, and you'll love it. Cutting any wood up to 5 inches or so is possible, though you'll have to be patient with really thick, hard wood. WD-40, silicon, or other lubricant on the blade helps. Here's my only complaint. The blade does get dull, and it's not easy to sharpen as a do-it-yourself task. Is it really worth having someone do it when a new saw costs twenty-some dollars? I simply replace the saw every 2 years now, and its a business expense. Now you can buy a new blade, since it's attached to the handle with screws. But the blade costs essentially as much as the saw, at best a dollar less. So I'd rather just give my old saw away to someone who's less fussy about super sharpness. It still beats whatever hand saw they have in most cases. Mentioning the screws made me think of one other thing. Make sure they don't come loose and fall out. Either check them now and then, or tape the handle to make sure they stay put. The main point here is this is a great little saw for when you need a hand saw for trimming. and it makes cleaner and better controlled cuts than a power saw.

I paid a professional arborist to come a cut down a few dead trees recently. I was amazed by his hand saw that he used to cut branches out of his way. He used it like a machete. One swipe and the branch was gone. He said that it was a Japanese saw made by Silky. My research showed Silky saws to be great - but also pricey and out of my budget. More research showed that the Corona brand is much more cost effective and a good quality. Additional research showed that this saw is a professional model. When the saw arrived I was impressed by how sharp it is. So sharp I cut myself a few times. I am glad that I ordered the leather scabbard to go with it. While the plastic scabbard is cheaper, I did not like the reviews that talked about the poor quality of the plastic scabbard. I used Bear Grease to soften and protect the leather. Do not use a vegetable oil on the leather. The acidity will rust the tool. A little WD-40 cleans off the blade from tree sap residue. A little motor oil after each use keeps the metal from rusting. I used to use a carpenters hand saw to prune my trees. They did the job with a lot of effort. This saw is perfectly shaped and designed for cutting branches. The curve of the blade helps to hold the saw in place so that it does not jump around like a carpenters hand saw. The handle is also just the right shape. The blade is a heavy gauge metal. It resists bending while cutting very well. I am very happy with my purchase.

Just received the Corona 14" pruning saw (#7395) and couldn't wait to give it a trial run. I have a sourwood that was taken down by a falling oak from a recent storm, and decided to see how this saw performed. The sections I cut were all about 4 to 5 inches in diameter, maybe slightly over in a couple of spots. Some required a cut on the opposite side in order to relieve the saw getting pinched, but this was easily accomplished and the the Corona performed exceptionally well. The only place where a different tool, (small hand pruner), would have been preferable was on the small leaf bearing branches that were too small and flimsy for effective cutting with this tool, even though it accomplished the task. But that was not why I purchased it...I bought it to cut limbs from roughly an inch to five or six inches in diameter. Anything more than that is gravy. I hemmed and hawed about buying a Silky saw from the many available here on amazon, but didn't know if the occasional use justified the expense, so I figured I'd start out with a good quality but much less expensive saw like the Corona and pick up a Silky saw down the road. I'm glad I did. Save the packaging unless you invest in or already have a scabbard. I plan on using mine on my property, so it's good enough for storage in my garage. Highly recommended.

I have been a volunteer with the Forest Service since 1996 and this is our preferred pruning saw for the small jobs. We use large one person saws and cross cut saws for the big stuff, but when this saw is new and sharp, it can easily cut through trees that are nearly as big as the saw itself - it just takes time, but I carry it in my backpack, so it is compact and always handy to have. It will dull after a season of use and it is easier to order a new one than to try and sharpen. I do have the sharpening tool, but haven't figured it out - yet.

I love this, I cut a bunch of old privet hedge that had turned into small trees this cut through them with no trouble, and at 67 I don't have much arm strength but was able to saw through 6" diameter limbs. Amazing saw.

This is easily the best one-handed saw I've ever owned. I have plenty of trees and bushes on my property. I know that every year, I am going to have plenty of tree trunks and limbs to cut (either getting rid of buckthorn, removing saplings I missed the year before, or dealing with storm dropped limbs). To be clear, I am not felling any significantly sizeable trees so I wasn't looking for any large, motorized, or overly expensive tools for this purchase. I did my research and decided to take a shot with this saw. It is crazy sharp, ergonomic, and efficient. Pardon the pop culture reference but it is like having a light saber when it comes to green wood limbs under 2" in diameter. If it is larger than that, it is more like having a tiny chain saw since it takes a few more seconds to finish the cut. I HIGHLY recommend getting the plastic sheath for this. It is a seriously - even dangerously - aggressively sharp implement of vegetative destruction. So awesome for what it is. I also bought the sharpening tool for this but after weeks of use, I haven't used it yet. I'm sure I will need to touch the steel up sooner or later though. Once you've experienced this thing at its sharpest you get a bit addicted to it. I wouldn't want to let this get too dull and lessen my enjoyment. Turns what many see as a yard work chore to be dreaded into a far simpler and pleasing task.

This is an excellent saw and works better than I had expected, I have had it for some time and it still makes short work of a 3 inch branch.
